1,023 Miles - 98% FSD 14.2.
Got 14.2 just before driving a third of the way across the US (Virginia to Missouri). Decided to fully test out this FSD the entire time. Note: This trip was actually 99.999% FSD. The 24miles of non-FSD was a test-drive for a friend thinking about getting a M3 and a trip to the store. Trip Details: Distance: 998 miles on FSD. Mode: Hurry 80%, Mad Max 20% Weather: 50% clear, 50% rain Car: 2025 M3 RWD Overall for me I was super impressed over the improvements from 14.1. I only had to interject driving ONCE, and that was at the butt end of the trip (hour 14 of 16). The Good: - No phantom breaking! - Speed Limit adjusted quickly - Very few “please pay attention” warnings - Object detection and avoidance!* - Estimated battery on arrival was on-point! The Bad: - No difference between Max / Hurry mode - Occasional Slow Lane Switching - Wipers to full send on a tad bit of rain As I stated above, I had to interject driving once, and that was during a lane switch. I was coming off the on-ramp to i64 west and there was a 18 wheeler in the lane to be merged into and a van behind him. There was more then enough room for the Tesla to merge into the lane, but instead just had the blinker on and not switching lanes. After what felt like an eternity, it just decided to speed up to try getting ahead of the 18 wheeler at the end of the merge lane. This is where I stopped FSD and merged into behind. *Now what I was super impressed at is that it slowed down for deer, possums crossing the road, foxes in the road, and raccoons on the side of the road. If it noticed an animal such as a deer on the edge of the road (alive) it would slow down almost to a crawl speed. This made me feel much more comfortable about it handling wildlife than before. It actually detected animals I would have otherwise missed. I also had 0 issues of phantom breaking. Where in 14.1 I had it all the time, to the point FSD wasn’t even usable since I live in a wooded area and it would try to dodge leaves or slam on the breaks for a branch. It also adjusted to speed limits quickly. It could be smoothed out a bit, since going from a 70 to a 55 was a very noticeable hard slowdown, but otherwise I was impressed at how quickly it would be to adjust. I was also surprised with the far less amount of “please pay attention” warnings. When I got to my destination, I put it to the test. Since there is a private “road” that is on the way to my destination, I gave it the full test. I was able to pick up my phone and answer a quick text without getting the warning. I was also able to recline the seat almost all the way back and almost full lay down mode. If I had to turn my head away to retrieve something from the back seat or from the glove box, I wouldn’t receive the warning. I received 0 strike out warnings the entire drive.
