Who else is disappointed with FSD 14.2

WillDABOM | 2025-11-25 13:06 | 42 views

The update just before, where they removed the max speed limit, had great improvements to speed updating with new speed limits and driving reasonable speeds per the setting (normal hurry etc). NOW hurry won’t give me more than a couple over the limit, and going to mad max doesn’t even do anything. It’s also back to being slow to respond to speed limit changes. This feels like a total reverse course. (For reference I drive the same 60mi commute every day so I have tens of thousands of FSD miles with lots of comparables. I’m not just making this stuff up)

I noticed that. I loved how 14.1.4 would hurry out of my parking spot and get onto the main roads super fast to begin my commute, now it feels a little more…. Lethargic?

e_ven 2025-11-25 13:13

*way more….actually

Phonafied 2025-11-25 13:22

Would you say you preferred v13 more over v14.2? I have the update downloaded but I’m still avoiding installing it because I’m so used to v13 and have tested it enough where it works extremely well in 95% of all my scenarios.

iamdumbazfuk 2025-11-25 13:32

the lane changes are insane and it seems like they jump into a lane with slower traffic to then change back to another lane

ItsSkellyTime 2025-11-25 13:35

I just completed my first drive on 14.2 and I can’t stand adjusting the speed. The car read a speed limit sign on the highway that was 70 with 55 minimum and the car wouldn’t go faster than 55. It also hesitated a few times and started but gave up on two lane changes which felt like the car couldn’t make up its mind and actually wiggled the car a bit with its steering input. V13 felt more polished

WillDABOM 2025-11-25 13:37

Honestly yes. 14.2 is having major speed problems, lane change wiggles, and is not responding well to traffic.

Key_Thought1305 2025-11-25 13:39

the parking performance seems a lot worse now as well. seeing a lot of crooked/barely in the lines parking. used to be near perfect parking every time before this.

AJHenderson 2025-11-25 13:41

This is exactly what I was warning about when I pointed out that the "improvements" everyone was so excited about could largely be tied to the problems. They still haven't changed the model much from the sound of it and have mostly been messing with tuning. We saw a big increase in both false positives and a reduction in false negatives because they increased sensitivity which also made it more confident to decide quickly but now that they retuned it to get rid of the false positives, the false negatives and delays in confidence are back because they weren't actually system improvements, they were just tuning artifacts. I don't have 14.2 yet on my personal vehicle that is currently with me to be able to extensively test, but that's certainly what appears to be the case from descriptions so far.

SLI_GUY 2025-11-25 13:43

yeah 14.2 seems to take forever to start the lane changes now. like it will still for 5-10 seconds before starting the change its crazy (its worse at night)

JebKermin 2025-11-25 13:43

v13 was better in many ways imo. I'm actually in a rental car with HW3 and v12 this week and in some ways I like it better which is surprising me. I remember the jump from v12 to v13 being a dramatic improvement in my car.

4thAndLong 2025-11-25 13:44

I definitely miss Mad Max from 14.1.4 On the highway 14.2 moves out of the left lane too quickly just to get slowed down by traffic then it has to wait for a gap to move back in the left lane. I wouldn’t say I’m disappointed with it. It just doesn’t drive as quickly/assertively as it used to, which is more my driving style.

Phonafied 2025-11-25 13:49

Yeah, it’s odd v14 has been a step back in so many aspects. It’s almost like engineers were pulled off the FSD team and relocated to another department. Not sure if v14 has new foundational capabilities that require more training from the fleet as it learns how to process end to end raw video/telemetry data on AI4 chips and possibly AI5 chips in R&D.

br0adstbully 2025-11-25 14:18

I'm in NJ and noticed that too, but it's actually a law here to only use the left lane to pass, so I figured that may be why it does that.

glm409 2025-11-25 14:26

5+ years into FSD and every update has been a disappointment—improvements in some areas, regressions in others, where I thought it worked great. One thing for sure, it is always a little surprise, both positive and negative, with each update.

Additional_Many_2087 2025-11-25 14:43

Still has issues stuttering in intersections. Almost got hit in a roundabout yesterday if I didn’t accelerate on my own.

bjdraw 2025-11-25 14:57

HW3 cars now run v12.6, which is more like v13 than versions of v12 hw4 cars ran.

JebKermin 2025-11-25 14:59

Ok that makes sense because it definitely feels more like 13 than anything else. There were several behaviors about 12 that I disliked and I'm not observing them in this car.

ChunkyThePotato 2025-11-25 15:56

I only have about 30 miles on it so far, but it seems way smoother than 14.1 and therefore way better overall. No harsh braking at all yet or dumb hesitations. The only downside is, yes, it has the tendency to be slower. But still a huge improvement.

bee_ryan 2025-11-25 16:06

It’s useless to me on the highway now. I’m in California, we have carpool lanes, it won’t stay out of them despite having “use HOV lanes” unchecked. It will only stay out of them on “chill” mode, meaning going 60 MPH in the slow lane, and it aborting about 80% of lane changes it attempts. My favorite part is when it tells me FSD is exceeding the max speed limit I have set in settings, and tells me to adjust it. It’s a paradox of stupidity.

quetiapinenapper 2025-11-25 16:30

I love it. Mad max didn’t need to go 85. Autonomy is about safety and comfort and a lack of anxiety on the road. Not speeding and hoping a cop isn’t around the bend. For people who want to drive fast you can take over.

ragemachine717 2025-11-25 17:11

I’m not sure what yall experienced but mad max had me 20 over on the expressway, and had very indecisive lane changes. Would hesitate to change lanes, then change its mind or try to go to a different lane all ultimately to stay in the same lane.

DameLasNalgas 2025-11-25 17:13

They definitely need to bring back the assertiveness and speed of 14.14 not I think regulators after to blame for this one. They likely were required to dumb it down.

ForeverMinute7479 2025-11-25 18:00

Two steps forward, five steps back. This is the way.

nimmy283 2025-11-25 18:05

What mode were you on? V14 would frequently read 25 on the highway while on mad max mode and it would drop from 85 to 82. Even on standard mode it would maintain speed in the 70s

nimmy283 2025-11-25 18:05

A lot smoother I’m happy with it. But yes I had to go on hurry and even then it felt like sloth

DangerousSolution78 2025-11-25 18:06

The lane changes are terrible, it makes me look like a dumb ass, sitting there with a clear lane to merge and my blinker on for the last mile

DangerousSolution78 2025-11-25 18:06

14.1 was too fast, now 14.2 is way too slow. They just can’t get it right

MadComputerHAL 2025-11-25 18:20

I admit, Model S driver here, but 14.2 (or 14.1.4 before that) feels like a big downgrade from 13. Things I noticed right away: \- Glues itself to right side of the road when there are no markings, it actually drove on the sidewalk for a while. \- No speed adjustment, even in traffic. v13 would speed up and keep a safe but tight following distance that wouldn't make the driver behind me mad. Now, if I was driving behind myself I would be fuming and yelling "stop hogging the left lane". \- Stop signs have always been an issue, but now it stops, inches, stops, vibrates the steering wheel, hesitates some more, and finally moves... \- "Change the lane. Change the lane. Change the damn lane already!" The good: \- It is able to drive on a very tight and very long spiral parking lot entrance with no exits for 6 floors. I'm impressed. v13 never even attempted it once. I feel v14 \_is\_ more capable but it's not capable in executing those new capabilities smoothly.

Feisty_Crab7052 2025-11-25 18:29

No complaints here.

Ecstatic_Spare_8384 2025-11-25 18:43

This is my biggest disappointment with 14.2 the lane changes are horrendous.

whoaqua1234 2025-11-25 19:00

The lane change is really awful. It turns on the blinker and then starts to go and then goes back in the lane and then starts to go and then goes back in the lane and then cancels the Lane change. It’s gotten timid all of a sudden and I’m on hurry. Wtf Tesla

Hot-Accountant-4425 2025-11-25 19:50

I think everybody’s overthinking it… this update will come and go and they’ll be a new one to replace it shortly… perfection doesn’t come easy…

g3n3s1s69 2025-11-25 19:51

Agreed, pretty disappointed. Its still good enough, but the previous 14.1 version felt snappy and swift in the exact way I would drive myself. It felt perfect (for me). Now it takes forever to change lanes, won't speed, actively slow down despite my attempts to accelerate, and seems to jump lanes randomly. Overall, I am glad they seemingly fixed the brake stabbing and hard braking in traffic, but this new update feels like we went from an extremely confident young adult living in a major city area to an old lady doubting her every move. It's still good FSD. But I feel the last version was better. Edit: Latest update fixed all my issues. The driving is nearly perfect now. Drives to and from work with no interaction. Fantastic technology

amoeba1126 2025-11-25 19:54

Unless Tesla is willing to take responsibility for people getting pulled over for speeding, they should absolutely limit the max speed. At the very least, they need to bring back max speed offset to the scroll wheel.

DarthBlue007 2025-11-25 20:08

I'm extremely disappointed in FSD 14.2 because I'm on HW3. 🤣

ItsSkellyTime 2025-11-25 20:32

Standard, changing it to Hurry or Mad Max it tried to go 55 in the left lane lmao

[deleted] 2025-11-25 21:05

Better than 14.1.4 , still slams the breaks on orange lights though. Other than that flawless \_so far\_

WrongdoerIll5187 2025-11-25 21:59

It’s such a subjective thing too. Statistically you can probably arrive at the best local maximum for a system, but then perceived risk is an orthogonal concern so it’s really hard

WrongdoerIll5187 2025-11-25 22:02

Yep this is it. It was bound to happen as they tried to tweak toward perceived optimal vs what got them there in 14.1.4, which was probably the math. The jerkiness was an artifact but also a feature. Is such an interesting problem to me. I felt tremendous confidence in 14.1.4

watergoesdownhill 2025-11-25 22:53

I had a loaner with HW3 and I remembered how well 12.6.4 drove. Nice and quick, v13 has always been a bit slower. That said, it’s not trustworthy and can make bad mistakes. v14.1.4 hasn’t made a single dangerous mistake. I have a place near my house where I could get v13 to mess up.

seeyouat_thetop 2025-11-25 23:07

Is anyone else noticing that the “hold” feature when braking is no longer annotated on the screen with this update? I noticed it today and wondered if I happened to disable something or is that part of the new update ?

stevieoats 2025-11-25 23:20

For me and my 45 minute Atlanta area commute, I had it on Mad Max the entire way this morning on 14.2 and it barely mustered 70-75 mph in a 65/70 mph zone. For some, this might be maniac-level speed, but for everyone else it’s kinda keeping up, but not really. Max Max used to hit 85, which of course is a bit much, but Hurry would cruise along nicely at 79-80, which is with the faster flow of traffic. Standard would be just below the faster flow at about 75, and chill was around 65-70. I never bothered with sloth so I don’t know what that was, but I imagine it would be at the speed limit of 65. It would be nice if we could have both 14.1 style and 14.2 style and users could choose whichever they feel comfortable with.

NumerousHelicopter6 2025-11-26 00:04

So far both versions of 14 have been a downgrade for me. At first I hated the new speed profiles, I still don't love them but have learned to switch often, not ideal but also not the end of the world. The main issue and it's very annoying is that the car has lost its confidence. If we are at the end of a road turning left or right onto another road, it will wait for a gap the size of Texas before pulling out, at every stop sign it is jerky and hesitant, lane changes it will start the change and swerve back for no reason, the other day it did it several times in a row and then waited until someone was close and cut them off. Strangely enough, I also had one of the best FSD drives that I've ever seen one night last week, 90 ish minutes in the dark and rain, it handled it flawlessly and at one point there was a huge puddle from the jersey wall into the left lane with a semi next to us, it gently swerved around the puddle while keeping a respectable distance from the truck. My thoughts were, I wouldn't have done that and if I did it wouldn't have been that smooth.

onhermajestysecret 2025-11-26 00:22

Just updated. Oh man. The lane change wait is painfully slow and also has hesitation.

SnowMuted5200 2025-11-26 00:24

Have 14.2, use it primarily for 35 mile drive along I5 to work. Only one gotcha when truck on right went over marker and car did great compensation. Can't fault it yet.

Jkastelic 2025-11-26 00:43

I just drove 650 miles today on 14.2 and boy do I wish I still had 14.1.4 or 13…. It stutters soooo much when changing lanes on the highway it’s actually infuriating. This was a regular occurrence: Turn signal on, sits and waits, turn signal off, turn signal on again, starts to change lanes, aborts, turns signal off, turns signal on, changes lanes. I feel like I’m going to get pulled over for drunk driving lol. Standard and hurry mode are way slower now and have hard cutoffs so if a highway drops from 65 to 55 it SLAMS on the brakes despite the flow of traffic being well above that. This is especially irritating in CT where the highway changes speed every 5 miles. Oh and FSD essentially gives up if there’s any rain (speed restricted under the highway limit, lane changes awful). I see potential in it, but definitely still needs a lot of work. Anyways, rant over lol.

thadude3 2025-11-26 01:12

Mad Max's grandma... doing 55 in a 50.

thadude3 2025-11-26 01:16

This is the dumbest take, so if a cab driver gets pulled over, Toyota should get the bill?

tyreed88 2025-11-26 01:25

Hurry was perfect for me on 14.1.4 and now it’s way too slow on 14.2

rasin1601 2025-11-26 02:21

14.1.7 was fun. Scary but fun—like they were finally on to something that felt alive.

maybe-yeah 2025-11-26 05:02

Anyone else getting a lot more nudge notifications than usual too? I’m paying attention to the road and keep getting yelled at by the damn car on 14.2

extremador 2025-11-26 05:14

I’m happy people are talking about this. Additionally, the blinkers going off a mile before you have to make a turn. Stop it!

EmphasisPlane5981 2025-11-26 05:25

You guys are just bunch of lazy retards. You guys should be grateful for the t3chnology that we had. Fsd is really helps us a lot especially for the people that who cant really drive on the freeway. People are always gonna find something to complain about, it's simple if you guys dont like it just drive manually ffs.

Important-Language27 2025-11-26 17:34

Just updated last night and not sure if it’s just me or the car doesn’t seems to be riding in center of the lane anymore. It feels like it’s a bit offset to the right. Also it drives like a student driver when changing lanes. It’s seems he is afraid to do it and when it does it anxiously go back after overtake.

karaknwfp 2025-11-26 17:35

I noticed this as well. it is annoying as f

nimmy283 2025-11-26 18:02

2 steps forward, 3 steps back as usual. This update is ridiculous. I was driving a 70 mph highway and it jumped around 45, 60, 65, and 70 speed limits. Each time hitting the brakes or speeding up to maintain 5 over on standard mode. Thankfully it did not slam on the brakes when cars were behind me, so I guess it somewhat knows better. And it didn’t acknowledge the 25 mph, thank god again. Lane changes either don’t exist anymore (hurry mode will sit behind a slow moving vehicle) or they don’t make any sense

zachg 2025-11-26 18:10

You can lower the speed limit by picking standard, hurry or even chill . For even slower speeds...

Endras_Zardah 2025-11-26 19:23

I much prefer 14.17 to 14.2 it is way too buggy, had to take over enough times this morning we gave up and turned fsd off

Hot-Accountant-4425 2025-11-26 20:59

Ya, it violently moved right, then back like something was in the road…🫨…not sure what that was all about… but it got me to work on the hi-way and all… it’s not perfect…I’m sure that it will get dialed in eventually… I’m still getting used se to the car , but not bad so far… just glad we get the updates so it doesn’t go in a pile of all my out dated electronics, etc…

Quick_Current_489 2025-11-26 21:36

We just updated yesterday, and it doesn’t even activate at all for us

AMG_Cat 2025-11-27 00:20

14.2 mad max is like 14.1.4 in chill mode. I am now holding up traffic and it feels dangerous to use it once again. The only fix to go the flow of traffic is to keep my foot on the go pedal. Wishing I didn’t update my car.

Sad_Divide_8153 2025-11-27 01:13

I’ve had the complete opposite experience with mad max. I was driving in a 55 and turned on FSD with mad max and it floored it 90 and I’ve yet to use that profile since.

HickoryKingNamlet 2025-11-27 02:51

14.3 will be perfect

Flat_Bit_309 2025-11-27 04:02

I guess we are glad to not have 14.2 yet in Australia!

Hot_Actuary_820 2025-11-27 05:49

FSD never could recognize the speed limit signs on some roads all the time. Even if it recognizes the speed limit correctly it does not always respond to the speed limit with appropriate acceleration. It is usually ok to recognize speed limit signs on interstate highways such as I35. FSD uses Google map which usually shows correct speed limits at any roads. I wonder why the information of Google map is not incorporated into FSD. I hoped the v14.2 update would solve the problem. But it doesn’t.

Zigaza 2025-11-27 06:29

Updated to 14.2 last night. Just drove it for the first time this evening… I hated it. Hurry max out at 75mph, and Mad max goes to 85 every chance it gets. Not cool!! Very annoying in fact. before the update was perfect. Hurry max out at 80. Now in hurry, it drives 75 in the left lane where people here in California is driving 80!!! They have to fix this asap pleaseeeee. Bring back the old scrolling speed limit please ffs.

Zigaza 2025-11-27 06:32

They just need to add back the scrolling speed setting. I don’t mind being in chill but it goes to the speed i set.

chronically_salty 2025-11-27 08:15

Maybe calibrate on a 5 lane highway in the middle lane if lane centering is off

tanman1975 2025-11-27 15:47

It got you out of your parking spot? I have yet to experience that part!

AmazingRoberto 2025-11-27 17:10

Same! Want to go back to prior version. Also Turn signal auto cancel is not working as well.

themarmalademaniac 2025-11-27 20:16

Yeah it's ridiculously bad at changing lanes now. It hesitates then starts then stops then sits. It's like. 15 year driving for the first time

troidem 2025-11-28 05:11

They have to break something to fix another.

samaltmansaifather 2025-11-28 22:11

The lane change indecisiveness makes this version unusable. It feels like it shift to opposite side of the lane before attempting the lane change. The last version felt very decisive comparatively.

ksflyer2 2025-11-29 05:07

Just picked up a 2026 Model Y today, drove it 150 miles home on FSD 14.2. There was a lot of good, but....... 1. Lane changing sucked #1......on the freeway with plenty of room it would decide to do a lane change. Blinker goes on and........nothing, no lane change. It sits there in the original lane until I intervene. 2. Lane changing sucked #2.....feels inconsistent if I try to force a lane change by holding the turn signal lever up or down........sometimes it works, sometimes it does nothing. 3. Speed control was getting stuck at slower speeds even if I moved it up to Mad Max it was sitting at 65 mph in the fast lane. 4. Tail gating.......it's giving one second max between me and the car in front on the freeway. Funny is that my score in the app faulted me for tail gating. 5. Blew right through a stop sign in the fog. It knew it was coming, "Turn in 1000 feet", never tried to turn at the stop sign, just tried to sail right through it until I intervened. 6. Selected a Super Charger location. It navigated to it, "You have arrived at your destination" and then FSD shut off, never tried to park the car in any of the open slots. This worked find on 14.1.7 when I rented a Model Y 2 weeks ago. 7. Has tunnel vision for other cars trying to merge. Two instances where cars have there blinkers on and are trying to merge, FSD ignores them giving them no room to slide in. This is totally hypocritical as FSD constantly uses the Model Y's turn signals to tell other drivers that it wants to change lanes and that they should help by making room. Hoping version 15.3 fixes these. -:) -:)

ksflyer2 2025-11-29 05:15

same

Callanftw 2025-12-01 23:35

It feels like v13. It feels genuinely dumber.

Leyvaman-MX 2025-12-02 01:51

I just got updated with 14.2.1, and I’ve read that it’s a big improvement…crossing fingers 🤞
