Tesla isn't sitting still... with some minor financial incentives. They've basically conceded the Chinese market to a slow, then fast, death. Brilliant leadership.

BringBackUsenet 2026-01-27 02:31

That's one fugly car!

lovely_sombrero 2026-01-27 02:58

The car went from not existing to outselling TM3 in about... 12 months? Crazy!

tomdurk 2026-01-27 03:12

Pretty sharp looking car

noobeddit 2026-01-27 03:12

are you serious? [https://www.electrive.com/media/2024/01/xiaomi-su7-2023-12-min.jpg.webp](https://www.electrive.com/media/2024/01/xiaomi-su7-2023-12-min.jpg.webp)

Engunnear 2026-01-27 03:25

I don't know that I’d say fugly, but it looks to me like somebody told an AI image generator to mash up a Maserati, a Sonata, and a Taycan.

boofles1 2026-01-27 03:28

Fast and cheap too, like 700 hp fast. Great looking car, I'd love to buy one.

BringBackUsenet 2026-01-27 03:31

Exactly! To be fair almost all cars are fugly now. I will say that Teslas maybe junk, and I'd never buy one but they actually aren't bad looking.

whirlwind87 2026-01-27 03:48

Only if Tesla's interior got better Last summer I got to drive a 2019 model 3 of a coworker and it felt way too cheap and basic. Seats material and sculpt was okay but the interior having no buttons in exchange for 1 massive screen and a dull not shiny look made it feel like a late 90's Hyundai. Now with Elon's bs being the public face of DODGE and getting a pay package worth more the company, if it was valued at an actual reasonable valuation spreading himself over 5 companies the failure of CyberTruck. Will see if they fail in China or not.

laser14344 2026-01-27 03:50

Tesla up 15%

Quirky_Tradition_806 2026-01-27 04:07

Too busy meddling in politics and perfecting Nazi salutes.

wongl888 2026-01-27 04:10

The Nazi salute needs some work.

ionizing_chicanery 2026-01-27 05:05

It's only a matter of time before China responds to the US's effective ban on Chinese owned EV production with reciprocal measures. There's basically no benefit to them keeping Tesla around anymore.

shiroandae 2026-01-27 05:25

Well to be very honest - if they had been able to ramp up production faster, it’d have been much quicker.

The_BarroomHero 2026-01-27 05:51

Even his 'Yew Ess Eh' was a bit off. Don't know how you fuck that up, it's three letters, but maybe listening to Hitler speeches while in a K-hole is part of the reason.

FlagFootballSaint 2026-01-27 06:23

This car should not be compare to Model 3 as it is in a league beyond the Model 3. This is the car the Models S always wanted to be.

GlumExternal 2026-01-27 06:35

Why would you want to be a market leader in the world's largest automotive market, when instead you can do a star jump on stage because it looks like an X

mrbuttsavage 2026-01-27 06:37

First you need an intense hatred of non white people and women, then do a lot of drugs, and in general be a sociopath. Then the rest makes sense.

SomeOkeByTheSea 2026-01-27 07:18

great news, f the nazi and his death mobiles

Numerous-Match-1713 2026-01-27 07:48

Stock will shoot up, one less market to distract from... profit?

DistributedView 2026-01-27 08:48

The wild thing about this no-one is mentioning is that the SU7 is a Model S sized / positioned car. Presumably at some point in the not too distant future there will be a SU5 or similar, and that will be the nail in the coffin for the Chinese Model 3 market. The YU7 is arguably a size up from the Model Y too (almost a foot longer). It's no coincidence that Tesla launched the YL. Now is a stretched variant of a class size down better than just buying the next size up?

wait_whatwait 2026-01-27 09:16

The su7/yu7 are the chinese cars that would be more tempting for me if they came to europe.

Belzebutt 2026-01-27 12:40

Styling is highly subjective. I’m not a huge fan of the design but it’s objectively “clean” unlike some of the early Chinese cars. It looks a lot like Infinity’s cars. I think most people would find it reasonably attractive, even if I don’t love it. It’s not uglier than a Model 3 IMO, both are OK and relatively inoffensive.

tomdurk 2026-01-27 13:01

It helps if you get/ steal billions in government funds.

BringBackUsenet 2026-01-27 14:01

Clean? The front fenders don't match up to the door. Then there are those ridiculous fake air vents in the bumpers. Too many sharp edges and other assymetrical lines. It's typical of today's hideous modern design.

Lacrewpandora 2026-01-27 14:10

But Tesla still leads the pack in selling products that don't exist.

Public-Research 2026-01-27 14:13

I think it's more the Roadster tier

Lacrewpandora 2026-01-27 14:14

I can't remember the details, but Tesla makes annual payments on the factory to a bunch of banks hand-picked by the Chinese government. IMHO, they'll keep Tesla around to pay back their tab. For all intents and purposes, the plant in China is "Chinese" - it surely employs a lot of Chinese, they're exporting lots of cars and bringing revenue back to China, and the profit is supposed to be re-invested in China. They'll keep it open, as long as Musk doesn't get high and call Xi a pedo.

FlagFootballSaint 2026-01-27 14:57

Way too long and too large for to be compared to the Roadster

EverythingMustGo95 2026-01-27 15:03

Not to mention playing with chainsaws! Beats carrying a kitchen sink to the office. The dude paid hundreds of millions to buy Trump and DOGE, and he still lost the clean air credits and $7500 rebates. He must be trying really really hard to mess up.

techbunnyboy 2026-01-27 15:32

Now only if the leader had 2trillion in salary the sales would be higher

analyticaljoe 2026-01-27 16:33

On the plus side, both of these make me cheer rather than lament the loss of EV dominance by Tesla. Karma baby. Elon's getting what he deserves. Soon to be /r/LeopardsAteMyFace material.

mrdilldozer 2026-01-27 18:00

I dont even think it's the political stuff that's harming them in China. They are just inferior vehicles because they haven't done anything new in a long time.

KeySpecialist9139 2026-01-27 18:55

This two cars are not even in same league. Basicly, equivalent of saying Benz outsold Clio in Europe. 🤣 Which would be incredible feat. This? It's beyond wildest Xiaomi executive dreams. 😉

SoulShatter 2026-01-27 19:09

So they've essentially conceded the Chinese market. Musk pissed off Europe and is losing tons of ground there as well. The only place remaining is the US, and they've lost the carbon credits and EV tax credit there, with the president pushing combustion vehicles. Anyway, that'll be TSLA +10%

bubugugu 2026-01-27 21:41

I didn’t like Tesla before but I admired what Elon was trying to do. Now I also don’t like Elon 😂 Good job Xiaomi and all the other electric car brands. Kill Tesla please.

Cedric_T 2026-01-28 00:25

I’m hoping it’s included in some of the 49k coming to Canada. Model 3 looks like a POS compared to this.

Icy_Car803 2026-01-28 04:38

From the reviews, there's a good reason these are being bought over a model 3. It's a lot more car for the money: power, tech, amenities, style, everything-wise.

newbee_2024 2026-01-28 08:23

The primary standard for a good car is safety. The quality and chassis tuning of Xiaomi cars are worrying, and there have been negative reports of accidents involving autonomous driving. I really can't understand what consumers who buy Xiaomi cars are thinking

Street_Barracuda1657 2026-01-28 09:19

Are you talking about Tesla or Xiaomi…

Different_Hippo_6276 2026-01-28 14:04

Xiaomi is cheaper than Tesler.

KeySpecialist9139 2026-01-28 15:34

I honestly don't know how much each costs in China, but in EU Tesla 3 was cheaper than Clio if using their financing a few months ago. For a while it was even cheaper than Dacia Sandero. Not sure how things stand now, but BYDs are expensive. ;)

newbee_2024 2026-01-28 16:04

XIAOMI su7

NotFromMilkyWay 2026-01-29 01:15

It's funny how Stans don't see they are talking about Tesla. They still think they are fighting for the best luxury car ever made. The one that's held together by ply wood from home depot and explodes when going over curbstones.

NotFromMilkyWay 2026-01-29 01:21

It was announced in March 2024. So 22 months from never having built a car to outselling Model 3.

SentinelZero 2026-01-29 04:10

Impressive, very nice. Let's see Xiaomi's Cybertruck.

lovely_sombrero 2026-01-29 12:18

I was talking about start of mass production.

Charming-Tea644 2026-01-30 00:43
