>Basic Autopilot, which is no longer available in the U.S., also includes Autosteer, which is an important driving assistance feature as it keeps vehicle centered in the lane. Bullish
I guess this is to push people to the FSD subscription?
extract the last monies from the saps. Now you can't sell cars.
Is stripping out a valuable option really the best way to boost car sales?
Is stripping out a valuable option really the best way to boost car sales?
This is 100% the reason. They also already have plans to increase the subscription price too.
Kinda suggests that tesla is in some pretty dire financial straits. The autopilot as standard was one of the few benefits they had. As basic as the free system was, it was more than most other car companies offered on their cheapest models.
Yes, it’s a part of Elon’s compensation package metrics. That $1,000,000,000,000 is going to completely scam itself into existence. It’s needs direction at the expense of the customers.
For the low price of $100 per month. /s
Like every new car from every manufacturer has “autopilot” at this point lol. It is just adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist…
This is a Musk money grab. A new 2026 Toyota Camry comes with standard lane centering. This functionality is part of the Lane Tracing Assist (LTA) system, which is included in the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) 3.0 suite standard across all trim levels.
And it will go up in price as FSD gets better.
And to be honest, this is the maximum of Assisted Driving that we should allow on public Roads at the moment.
Lol, just keep losing sales, bro. 😂
I kind of always thought they should include FSD as a whole when you buy the car. I thought that would really drive sales.
Elon Musk is a joke.
The interesting thing about subscription based pricing is that it has to continually justify its existence to the customer, as opposed to a one time sale that just has to convince them one time to part with money.
Enshittification, Tesla style.
Tesla is a perfect reflection of that. Which is unfortunate because the company had a lot of potential to be an industry leader, now it’s total garbage.
Sales down worldwide. Grok. What should we do.. Lets take away the basic features that even a 25000$ car comes with now. That will surely have people flock to our showrooms to purchase this piece of shit again.
2018 Volvo. Checks out. Has never tried to steer me into oncoming traffic. Also has Animal Safety. Has only been set off once, by a deer jumping in front of my car to cross an unlit lane at dusk. The brake pedal was depressing itself by the time my foot got there. This is all boring tech in 2025. or at least... It's boring tech for automobile companies that install radar like my Volvo. No idea whether the camera-only stuff Tesla used to sell is any good in exception conditions like fog or the sun low in the sky or a perfectly camouflaged deer at dusk. Nor do I wish to find out.
Correcting your typo: bullshit
They aren't trying to boost car sales. Felon needs to get his 10M Full Reckless Driving subscriptions for his bonus.
Came to say this.
This is soooo true, but nobody ever listens.
yes and it's crazy because FSD is no longer a differentiator in the market. it's not real unsupervised self-driving and other manufacturers have close equivalents to it's approved use case. so who the hell is going to want to pay a subscription for it, especially in an environment of increasing public hate for musk and tesla and decrease in their vehicles overall appeal.
Elons pay package is higher than their to date revenues. It's going to be interesting seeing how Elon gets his pay package without hitting his targets. His board is full of his family and friends so it's probably going to be wild.
nope, it's the best way to try to squeeze some more money from suckers who already own teslas and mislead investors on long term revenue projections in the face of ongoing catastrophic sales declines.
They’re not going to raise the price. If anything it will go down. He needs 10 million subscribers by 2035 to hit one of his requirements for his pay package.
They literally stated they plan to increase the price. No need to argue with me. This is Elon’s master plan. lol.
Are they removing it from cars that already have it?
This is an automotive “innovation” that I’m not in favor of, following the gaming industry and Adobe and others to say, “yeah you can buy a thing from us, but if you actually want to fully use it, you gotta pay a subscription” I heard about some dishwasher that you had to pay a subscription to get it to use certain modes. I do not like this.
He stated it because he is trying to maximize money coming in from people buying it outright before they end it. It is an empty threat to make people FOMO. He is grifting.
I'm sure they'll start to bundle pre-buys. Instead of $100/mon, you can just pay $1,000 today. They'll roll in 12-24 months free if you sign for the car today that's been on the lot for 9 months. It'll become negotiating without dropping the price of the car.
A mandatory option
LOL.
Grifting for sure.
So uou’re saying it will never go up
Trump is president, this moron is the richest guy in the world and people wonder why birth rates are down.
It's also a good way to push more people into fsd subscriptions for his pay package metric.
Stock soars 10%. I mean, if it went up four percent when they announced the removal of "monitors", even though they didn't really remove the monitors they just moved them to another vehicle, this news should really make it pop.
they will raise the price. i would also expect to see a new tier model put in place. with lower tiers being heavily ad based.
Was also one of the features that they used to get the five star safety rating that vehicle fatality data suggests they don’t deserve.
Of course they should, it is their biggest advantage, but they made it part of his pay package to have paying subscribers, so they won’t, and their market share will continue to drop. It’s penny wise and pound foolish.
Yep. Got it in my 26 Corolla Cross, too!
He's saying it because the shareholder meeting is upcoming and sales are plummeting. FSD has been Elon's "coming next year" master plan for... \*checks notes\*... 11 years now.
Right. Imagine not supporting the thing that all other cars have now?
It is what it is at this point, I dont see it getting materially better with the sensors they have. If they add Lidar, maybe, but cameras aren't going to do it. I've used FSD on the latest Hardware, no fucking way in hell am I trusting it for anything more then adaptive cruise control, and even that it bugs me out a bit. $5 a month and maybe, maybe ill subscribe.. but probably not.
I sold my Model 3 recently but I had two Model 3's since 2020 and Autopilot was a big selling point for me. I had drove over 150K between the two cars and used Autopilot for a ton of my cross country miles (before the phantom braking became a big issue). What a shame they are getting rid of it and forcing people to a subscription to use more software features. Anyway, I quit using it due to the endless phantom braking over the past few years, and I like driving my car myself really so it's whatever. But what a stupid decision by Tesla.
Plus i bet its worded somewhere to not be 10 m concurrent subscriptions... He will just make that shit number up somehow.
The day my car has an ad coming across the screen will be the day I sell it and never buy from that brand again.
Considering "autopilot" was inclined to drive into the front of oncoming semi-trucks, this is probably for the best.
Mark Rober did a test with the Tesla cameras in a light mist and it resulted in the car running through a wall and running over a fake child.
This only turns into an advantage for them if they follow up very soon with a STUNNING update to FSD that makes it truly compelling, 100% trustworthy, and worth the cost. The odds of that are... not good. Yes Robotaxis have started operating in Austin without safety monitors. But it turns out they are following a car length behind, which is laughable.
Tesla removing Autosteer from the Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y looks silly when Toyota includes comparable driver-assist tech for free with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, even on a base Toyota Corolla. A premium brand cutting standard safety features while an entry-level car includes them makes the decision look backward and hard to justify.
You're telling me. If I could get my money back for this POS I would have. I should have seen the writing on the wall in 2019 but that waiting list is a real bitch to make you get fomo,I think they knew that
Damm that is fucking wild. I already wouldn't buy another Tesla after owning one, but AP and their power train were the only good things about their car depending on the day of the week. I never figured they would sabotage their cars this hard so fast once they started failing.
I think they have simply renamed it as TACC plus auto steer. (https://imgur.com/a/Yoq3XRy)
Yeah, this is insane. No lane centering on a premium car? The humblest Nissan Leaf now comes with ProPilot standard.
But the auto steer part isn't there.
He says a lot of shit. In the same tweet he talks about value add of taking a nap while the car drives you lmfao. We were supposed to see that already like... for years ago? I can't imagine raising the price is a winning strategy. It was already $200 once and they halved that to try and get people on board (and that still didn't prove enough value for too many). Anything is possible but taking Elon's words for face value isn't something I've done for a while. Kind of ashamed I ever did.
Is this just them renaming autopilot to traffic aware cruise control? If so, that is probably a good move. I understand the chaos though, and if it isn't then that is really bad. Sounds like that article suggests it won't include the steering feature, which really sucks. But if autosteer and cruise control end up being included, then that is basically all autopilot is. Tesla really shooting themselves in the foot if this is true. Hell, they already are; auto lane change should be included be default.
continually glad I disabled wifi and haven't updated since 2022. fingers crossed it isn't able to force through the downdate.
GPS only got cheaper as time went on. So will FSD.
Curious as well. Surely they wouldn’t do that?
*"The FSD price will continue to rise as the software gets closer to full self-driving capability with regulatory approval. It that point, the value of FSD is probably somewhere in excess of* ***$100,000****"* \- Griftoking, May, 2020 Yes, the price has gone down since then. I think it cost 99 bucks a month.
I saw a post say it’ll be $99 per month
There's no way that pay package will ever come to fruition. Especially as they're losing market share at this accelerating pace
with regulatory approval, lol. Like that's the only sticking point.
The real reason is because the shareholder meeting is coming up and their car sales have been plummeting. The last few years he's promised Cybertruck, which failed. Robotaxi, which is way behind schedule and is still stuck with a safety driver (except now they're in a trailer car behind the taxi) Optimus is nowhere available for sale. So the only thing left is subscription sales. They need SOME kind of positive hype before the meeting.
Does this impact used vehicles? Seems like taking away a feature which is now standard on most cars is a terrible way of branding an "advanced tech car" to prospective buyers. If anything, Tesla should up the price to make the standard package more techy lol.
So you mean these cars don’t have basic things like adaptive cruise control and lane assist like 50% of the cars sold today have?
Don’t forget adaptive cruise control.
And Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) is a suite of **standard** active safety features in many new Toyotas, using cameras and radar to help prevent or mitigate collisions by warning drivers and intervening with braking or steering, focusing on protecting against frontal crashes, lane departures, and enhancing nighttime driving visibility. Key features include the Pre-Collision System (PCS), Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), and Automatic High Beams (AHB), with newer versions like TSS 2.5+ and 3.0 adding features like intersection support and emergency steering assist .
Through the magic of the OTA update (which Tesla bros as well as others think is so good) they can just yoink this feature immediately
Hey, you know that thing you paid for we never delivered? We are discontinuing it, but you can buy a subscription to the thing we won't deliver.
My wife’s Prius has adaptive cruise control that is pretty nice. Won’t work at 0 MPH, but pretty much everything but. As long as you don’t come to a complete stop, it will essentially follow the car in front of you in slow traffic which is nice.
Will existing cars have an included feature (free basic AP) disabled if they don’t pay up?
Surely not, not sure how that would go down legally? I guess they could say its not up to standard but hey look we gave you FSD, for subscription. Guess really what choice do Tesla owners have if they do it, joy of OTA software updates. U less you stay on old version forever. Not sure if Tesla force updates eventually?
To Leon’s great surprise, regulators in charge of public safety aren’t so quick to approve things that are dangerous to public safety.
Greenland treaty. Success! Yay me.
they should discontinue phantom and autowipe instead
If I had been planning to buy another Tesla (which I’m not), this would be a complete deal breaker. The brand is dead to me.
WTF. Where is my f****g refund
My 2018 Audi S4 had this
Makes sense. Autopilot: An L2 system that requires the driver to constantly pay attention. FSD: An L2 system that requires the driver to constantly pay attention. Just getting rid of redundancy.
This selects for the most gullible sycophants, a short term attempt to generate cash from the believers.
If Elon needs to juice the numbers, he can add an FSD premium tier, then later drop the price of the basic tier.
That’s the thing. FSD is seemingly the best consumer option for autonomous driving at this moment. But does it matter enough to buy this brand and make me pay monthly for it? Not to me. Competitors’ options have mostly gotten competent enough that I’d rather buy a car based on other factors. Value, design, comfort, not funneling money to Musk, etc.
The regulatory approval seem to be the problem, as this shit doesn’t work and will never achieve Level 5 with cameras only. If this gets crammed through, people gonna die.
Tesla is not a premium brand. Their premium models (S&X) are less than 1% of their sales.
OTA is great. But I will flip a shit and probably file a class action suit if they start trying to monetize shit that they've already sold me. I bought a Tesla before Elon went crazy lol. Won't buy another one, but planning to drive this one until it breaks or Elon adds a YSD (yourself driving) subscription to unlock the wheels as a desperate way to raise cash for the company he ran into the ground.
Haha keep on buying the teslas folks!
All these replies of you guys guessing when it’s clearly spelled out already…this only applies to new vehicles. Cmon lazy bones.
They can't legally sell cars without Autopilot in EU, though. And they can't legally sell FSD.
Mate, said I doubt it, doesn't mean he can't change his mind tho does it? It didn't apply to new vehicles and then it did, why could it not then also apply to all vehicles with a simple change or press release?
So now you spend a lot of money on a car that’s built like shit and it doesn’t even come with adaptive cruise and lane centering? Yeah that’ll help sales.
☝🏾☝🏾💯
Honestly, all of this could be just a plot to boost sales a bit before the shareholder meeting. You can still purchase with autopilot. And saying prices will increase only makes the prepaid option value increase. What does make me worried is the likelihood of things like ads in Teslas.
I saw on other subs that it’s only removed for the standard 3/y, that if you go to the website and select “compare”, it will show you that it is still available.
Dude is scamming his customers to meet his own pay incentives. Purely just despicable. He’s so gross.
That’s it. He’s a conman and scammer. He will just keep making shady moves and call it “good business.”
There is no such thing as basic autopilot. There's cruise control...is that what you mean?
Even this has been updated. The DRCC will stop when the car in front of it stops and will wait to continue moving when the car in front moves. It also has traffic jam assist mode now.
Autosteer deleted. So yes autopilot is gone. Only TACC.
