Glad to see Rich Benoit take part in this mini doc. Tesla obfuscating the rear door manual releases the same seats that are likely to be occupied by non owners that won't know... Is such a diabolical tech first design.
We got rid of our Teslas and repalced one of them with a Rivian. I'm super annoyed that Rivian redesigned its R1 model to include electronic door handles. They even went very Tesla-like with hidden release cables for the rear doors that require you to remove a panel. Why?
Burying the manual release for the doors should be illegal. How is my 6 year old going to know how to operate that in an emergency? I bought a Blazer EV over a model Y partially because the handles are normal handles.
I am considering the R1S, but I'm also worried about the emergency door releases. I can't wait to get rid of my Model 3
Enshittification
The recall by the NHSTA will probably get into the billions in costs.
I agree it shouldn’t be buried but if you purchased a vehicle, one needs to know their own vehicles. I don’t buy a snow blower and not know how to stop it. It’s in the manuals. When my parents bought their vehicle, I explained to them where the manual handle is and they appreciated it. From time to time when I visit, I ask if they remembered.
So do they tell everyone each time they have new passengers in the vehicle? That's what happened in this case
They are older. In their 70s so in this instance, they don’t have many passengers. I did ask my mother if she tells her friend (the only one that ever is a passenger) and she said yes. I know people forget but I do totally agree that electric handles should not bf’s used in general. Is it more expensive to have manual doors? I mean if you’re going to have to put a backup, might as well just not worry about that portion, no?
The picture is not of the correct handle.
It is just the model S though.
While that is the right thing to do, their is an element of copium, in that you shouldn't need an airplane style embarking briefing for rear passengers. Can we simply be honest, and admit it's a bad design, and if during a sales pitch, Tesla was forced to demo that to prospective customers, they'd lose a ton of customers wouldn't they?
And we should be thankful!
Please let Bloomberg know, maybe they can insert a new thumbnail
Thanks for the upload, great presentation from Bloomberg. Heard about these cases. Reading not the same as seeing what this problem is about. A legal wet dream. The gov is not going to act as long as the orange guy has no opposition and Elon is still donating. I imagine these cases will be attracting alot of funding from investors. Rich? he is the boss with his vids. Masterful humor from him.
