2025 Tesla Model 3: battery replacement at 8800 miles

One-Construction6303 | 2025-11-14 01:45 | 139 views

Just wanted to share this experience. I tried to share it in another subreddit and the post was removed. I bought my 2025 Model 3 in January. It has only 8800+ miles. An alert showed up yesterday saying battery problem: "BMS\_a079: Unable to charge - Maximum charge level reached - Reduced maximum charge level - Schedule service." I read details from its manual: Tesla's Battery Management System (BMS) detected a problem inside the high-voltage battery pack. Because of this issue, the battery can only charge up to 50% State of Charge (SoC). • The car can still drive normally. • It can only charge when SoC is below 50%. • Charging won't start if SoC is already above 50%. It looks serious. I then scheduled a service immediately. Tesla decided to replace the entire high-voltage battery pack instead of trying to repair it based on the service quote. I have to wait for 3 weeks though.

You have to wait 3 weeks to take your car in? Or to get your car back? Will the provide a courtesy car?

oregon_coastal 2025-11-14 02:01

I would park that way outside.

One-Construction6303 2025-11-14 02:02

I am stuck with a faulty car with up to 50% battery for 3 weeks. The repair will last 3 days and I will get a loaner car during that time. It is very disappointing since I was planning to have a road trip during Thanksgiving.

Shootels 2025-11-14 02:02

HV packs are replaced all the time by all manufacturers, nothing interesting here. What is disappointing though is you chose to support Tesla in 2025. I made the same mistakes you did years ago, though CEO wasn’t helping elect authoritarians at the time.

Computers_and_cats 2025-11-14 02:03

I would guess they have to drive it with limited range then once parts are in they will get a loaner during the repairs.

One-Construction6303 2025-11-14 02:06

Yes. Limiting charge to 50% is to avoid risks of further battery problems like fire.

That sucks! Hope it all works out in the end! You might have to grab a rental or borrow a car for your roadtrip

Electronic-Juice-359 2025-11-14 02:11

Are they going to replace it with a new pack or a used one?

th3bigfatj 2025-11-14 02:11

brand new car now with a refurb battery.

One-Construction6303 2025-11-14 02:17

I have sent a request to the service center to clarify this. You are right that Tesla may use remanufactured battery packs in repairs.

PetalumaPegleg 2025-11-14 02:27

Why does it take 3 days to do this? I thought it wasn't that hard? The three weeks to wait with a substandard car seems unacceptable to me, I can excuse busy times ahead of thanksgiving but this seems to suggest a lack of staffing.

reddgreen1000 2025-11-14 02:39

Ya, Tesla fan sites not gonna let you post this. Elon is LORD! I'd park WELL AWAY from the house just in case. Push under the lemon law, your vehicle service history now has a major red flag costing you in resale value.

techbunnyboy 2025-11-14 02:47

Working as designed

Radiant-Painting581 2025-11-14 02:57

Literally nothing here except strawman arguments. Even if no company is a “saint”, some are far worse than others, and it’s quite possible to skew one’s purchases to the least unethical ones, even if they aren’t “saints”. And nobody’s “only focusing on the negative”. 0 for 2.

Ok-Bill3318 2025-11-14 03:13

Oh but electric is so much more reliable! Stats do not bear that out.

Beezelbubba 2025-11-14 03:19

So no loaner on a brand new vehicle with under 10k on the clock?

TheInternetsLOL 2025-11-14 04:03

Just Tesla things.

TheInternetsLOL 2025-11-14 04:04

Used of course.

reddgreen1000 2025-11-14 04:04

vote with your wallet

meshreplacer 2025-11-14 04:47

Sucks now the car will have a refurb battery.

dynamadan 2025-11-14 05:04

All hail Elon our lord and master! May he live so that we don’t have to!

Real-Technician831 2025-11-14 05:13

They will give you the cheapest option available for them. Screwing customers is almost like a kink to Tesla.

Real-Technician831 2025-11-14 05:15

Electrics fail differently, there are no catastrophic engine failures. But there sure are a plenty of battery and electric motors fails. Most commonly they are caused due coolant leaking where it shouldn’t or electrical isolation failures.

Real-Technician831 2025-11-14 05:17

For anyone who buys a new Tesla this day an age, they kinda deserve it. There are so many reasons to steer away from that unethical brand.

Alienfreak 2025-11-14 05:49

Electric cars are much safer than combustion engine ones. And on top of that they are more reliable. https://www.drivencarguide.co.nz/news/evs-outperform-ice-cars-in-major-reliability-study/

ExcitingMeet2443 2025-11-14 06:17

Tesla stats.

UnSCo 2025-11-14 06:43

Take the car to the service center tomorrow and tell them to fix that shit ASAP. Don’t sit and wait for their bullshit. They don’t tell you this though because they want you to follow their shitty queue and system.

Smartimess 2025-11-14 07:11

Pretty normal for Tesla. Wait until you here how shitty most of their repair work is, despite only having a few models and iterations on the matket.

StellarJayZ 2025-11-14 09:00

You bought a new Tesla in 2025 after all the previous information was made available to you easily 🤷‍♂️ You played yourself.

gwenver 2025-11-14 10:14

That's what you get when you buy a car from a nazi.

Puzzleheaded-Shake37 2025-11-14 10:28

You did Nazi this coming?

Ruegg44 2025-11-14 13:30

Do you base all your purchases off of the CEO’s political choices?

Outrageous_Koala5381 2025-11-14 13:36

I do when they're this crazy. He could go crazy one night and decide to remotely autopilot all the cars at 100mph until they hit something. He's indirectly led to the death of 100,000 people in Africa by blocking USAID. He's called for a revolt in the UK to overthrow the government. He's called that british caver a you-know what - with no evidence. He's lied about FSD for 7 years.

Outrageous_Koala5381 2025-11-14 13:38

HV battery replacement is about 1% of cars under warranty across the industry. Why else would they give 100k mile guarantees?

Outrageous_Koala5381 2025-11-14 13:40

I'd ask for the courtesy car from now - I'm sure UK would do that. Given the low mileage on the car - I wouldn't expect that for something <1y old. I'd also hope they'd give you a new battery given the low mileage of the car. What if they give you one that's already done 50k miles!

dezastrologu 2025-11-14 15:49

that's what you get for buying vaporware

dezastrologu 2025-11-14 15:50

when he's a complete drugged up lying dumbfuck and he makes that clear with each and every public appearance.. ..yes

MDJR20 2025-11-14 16:13

Buying Tesla in 2025 was like buying Mercedes in 1943.

EverythingMustGo95 2025-11-14 16:37

Just take the loaner on the road trip, what’s the problem?

EverythingMustGo95 2025-11-14 16:46

Just park it on the street in front of the dealership. By not scheduling service immediately they already decided there’s no safety risk, right? And they certainly wouldn’t want a burning car in front of their dealership, especially if the owner explained to the police he reported a battery problem and the dealer said they won’t fix it immediately. They CAN fix it immediately (special order, check other dealers, or swap from a new car in stock), they just don’t want to.

Key_Independence7542 2025-11-14 20:17

I'm trying hard not to be a jerk here...but how in the world are adults with access to the internet still getting duped into buying Teslas? I could maybe understand giving someone a pass if the year was 2015, but come on people.

One-Construction6303 2025-11-14 20:39

The loaner was only offererd for 3 repair days, not for 3 weeks waiting days before the repair starts. I have requested a loaner for the waiting time. Lets see how it goes.

Just remember when you get comfortable and it fails with a split second to react its all your fault.

One-Construction6303 2025-11-14 21:17

Yes. I am a semi-expert in AI. I am fully aware of its limitations.

AgentSmith187 2025-11-14 21:55

Yet your happy to risk the lives of those around you by using it to drive a vehicle on public roads....

Key_Independence7542 2025-11-14 21:57

Don't worry he is a "semi expert in AI" lmfao. You can't make this shit up.

AgentSmith187 2025-11-14 22:03

Honestly if people kill someone in an accident while using FSD at this point it should be classed as negligent homicide with reckless disregard or the local equivalent charge. Its limitations are so publicly known anyone still using it in public should be held accountable for making a deliberate decision to risk the lives of others.

EverythingMustGo95 2025-11-14 22:09

Good move to request it. They have a lot of gall if they refuse.

Ok-Bill3318 2025-11-15 01:31

You know why? Because it’s more than the car is worth by 5 years in. So the car is scrapped or it otherwise doesn’t happen.

SpeedflyChris 2025-11-15 09:57

So you're telling them to guarantee you a brand new pack in writing or lemon law buyback the car, right? Then again you deserve this and worse for using your money to support Nazism in 2025.

junlowe 2025-11-15 13:01

"Tesla decided to replace the entire high-voltage battery pack instead of trying to repair it" OP please tell me, since when did Tesla ever repair a HVB? As far as I remember, HVBs were never repaired, only replaced. But I could be wrong.

zeeper25 2025-11-15 13:28

My Ioniq 5 with under 8k miles has been parked since September 6 at the dealership, waiting on a back ordered main battery pack, plus side I got a free rental EV, but currently in Lemon Law process with an attorney— will probably lease a used Model 3

spam__likely 2025-11-15 14:18

\>I bought my 2025 Model 3 in January. that is all I need to hear. Buy from a Nazi con man, receive the service you deserve.

spam__likely 2025-11-15 14:20

well, they guy got a tesla, this year. He should be there on those sites fellating Elon as well.

spam__likely 2025-11-15 14:20

right?

spam__likely 2025-11-15 14:21

~~kinda~~

spam__likely 2025-11-15 14:23

\>I'm trying hard not to be a jerk here stop trying.
