The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced a recall on 63,619 Cybertrucks with model years between 2024 and 2026. According to NHTSA's [recall report](https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2025/RCLRPT-25V699-7285.pdf), the affected vehicles were manufactured between Nov. 13, 2023, and Oct. 11, 2025, operating on software versions prior to 2025.38.3. The NHTSA advised that "the vehicle controller software may inadvertently command the front parking lamp photometry intensity to exceed the maximum permissible intensity ... " and be " distracting to other drivers and increase the risk of a collision."

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-24 15:10

Unsafe at any speed. They should be forced to buy them all back.

dtyamada 2025-10-24 15:11

There's so many bulbs that on normal look brighter than old high beams. The fact that they needed to issue a recall tells you just how bright they must have been. I'm glad there are actually standards for brightness.

PantsMicGee 2025-10-24 15:14

At night I have to shield my eyes from oncoming cybertrucks. It's absolutely dangerous.

penkster 2025-10-24 15:15

I'm fully on board slagging tesla for a crap vehicle, but these "THEY'RE RECALLING 63,000 VEHICLES! IT'S A SCANDAL" things are irritating. Folks, it's an OTA update that's already happening. No 'recall' - the vehicle doesn't need to be brought into a service center, and it's not going to burst into flames (at least not for thsi) - it's just a software patch. I wonder if NHTSA will at some point change the wording to reflect the new reality that vehicles need software updates regularly. Would you say "Microsoft is recalling all copies of Microsoft Word because there's a glaring error in the spell checker!"?

Beezelbubba 2025-10-24 15:15

So thats 100% of them for sure

MonsterTruckCarpool 2025-10-24 15:15

Headline should be ALL Cybertrucks have been recalled

FlagFootballSaint 2025-10-24 15:19

Dang they just sold 63,000 so far, LOL

Ornery_Climate1056 2025-10-24 15:21

The nice thing is that this sounds like a software update that will be pushed to the vehicle while it's parked overnight at home. EV manufacturers who don't have OTA are just milking their victims for "s*ealership" visits.

stankbucket 2025-10-24 15:23

It's not just cybertrucks. Most modern cars have lights that are far too bright. Combine that with morons who just drive with their high beams on, esp on the highway, and you want to start spraying bullets. Teslas in general are definitely worse than the average car.

shady_individuals 2025-10-24 15:24

Microsoft word can't kill people so it's pretty different

stankbucket 2025-10-24 15:24

TIL they've sold more than 60k CTs. Why isn't the stock at 700?

NefCanuck 2025-10-24 15:24

That’s not a direct comparison. A recall of a vehicle impacts the safety of the driver/passengers/others in a significant way. That’s hardly the same as “oh MS Word might delete a document” 🤷‍♂️

gmwdim 2025-10-24 15:25

They somehow managed to sell 63,000 of them. What a bunch of idiot buyers.

bASSdude66 2025-10-24 15:25

Sold 63,000? Hahahahaha!

livingMybEstlyfe29 2025-10-24 15:26

Wow something being enforced? What a time to be alive

PresidentSpanky 2025-10-24 15:27

and most are not adjusted correctly

lovely_sombrero 2025-10-24 15:28

It is not just brightness that is the problem. It is also the fact that lights are too high up on tall vehicles.

NtheLegend 2025-10-24 15:28

Yep, there's some dude in a crossover that shows up and his lights are almost as bright as the sun. it sucks.

Stunning_Bed23 2025-10-24 15:28

Trashla Fatigue…

dtyamada 2025-10-24 15:29

That is another part of the problem. That usually bothers me more when the vehicle is behind me since it shines in the side mirrors.

dreadthripper 2025-10-24 15:30

"this is the worst piece of shit ever produced...still love the truck though." average cybertruck owner

Such_Ad2826 2025-10-24 15:32

It's actually impressive Never thought 63000 morons would buy this

dtyamada 2025-10-24 15:32

Counterpoint: Manufacturers that don't will do more thorough testing instead of releasing a half baked product they can "update later".

FTR_1077 2025-10-24 15:33

>EV manufacturers who don't have OTA are just milking their victims for "s\*ealership" visits. What?? Recalls are free my friend.. what are you talking about?

dtyamada 2025-10-24 15:33

That's some kind of miracle!

FTR_1077 2025-10-24 15:36

>it's just a software patch. Sure, but is still a recall.. you know, a safety issue found with the vehicle. That's the important part, not how easy is resolved. I had a recall once where the manufacturer sent me gas cap replacement through mail.. it took me like a second and a half to swap them. We still call that a recall.

rbt321 2025-10-24 15:36

How many are owned by Space X?

dtyamada 2025-10-24 15:37

Just cuz they can fix it OTA doesn't mean it's not a recall. They have to make changes due to a safety issue, so it's a recall.

youmustbeoncrack 2025-10-24 15:38

When I first read the post title I read it as recycled, and I thought well they have finally come to there senses.

livingMybEstlyfe29 2025-10-24 15:38

Belongs in r/fuckyourheadlights too if you didn’t know about this sub

Su0h-Ad-4150 2025-10-24 15:38

Mostly to spacex

FoShizzleShindig 2025-10-24 15:41

Anecdotal but when my CR-V went in for a recall they gave me a laundry list of other stuff to do that was in no way necessary and hounded me. This was just for an update for the software because the transmission was stuttering.

FTR_1077 2025-10-24 15:42

Sure, a stealership will try to upsell you.. but if you fall, that's on you.

[deleted] 2025-10-24 15:42

Finally theyre fixing the insta-cremator functions of the...oh it's the headlights...

DonLikesIt 2025-10-24 15:43

What about their other cars? I think this is a worse issue with them! Can’t drive at night without being blinded by a Tesla

Madmartigan556 2025-10-24 15:44

Oh darn. An over the air update that will happen while the vehicle is parked at your house. Some recall…

FoShizzleShindig 2025-10-24 15:45

Sure but the one thing I give Tesla credit for is going away with that BS experience.

Aerospaced0ut 2025-10-24 15:47

It looks like the taxi from Total Recall... So I guess the owners think they're driving something that looks "futuristic" lol

FTR_1077 2025-10-24 15:47

My boss have two Teslas (a Cybertruck and a Plaid S), I can attest he's getting the same BS from them too.

jpk195 2025-10-24 15:48

That’s like 10x the number they sold isn’t it?

LVegasGuy 2025-10-24 15:48

Isn't that all Cybertrucks ever sold? I have lost count isn't that the 8th recall? Must be a record.

jaimi_wanders 2025-10-24 15:49

They also do away with all the other customer service stuff like actually fixing the cars, though…

Lacrewpandora 2025-10-24 15:50

The actual repair is a very minor part of a multi-step 3 year process known as a "recall". Please lets get past this fetish with not wanting to call a Recall a Recall.

jaimi_wanders 2025-10-24 15:50

There’s like five in my neighborhood that I’ve seen so far, too (blue state University town no less) and some of them have the worst wraps on top of them.

pand0rausa 2025-10-24 15:51

The "recall" is just another softqare update that has already been applied. Meh. Not sure I buy NHTSA's response though. Some reports out there say the lights are too dim. Wonder if someone(s) at NHTSA is trying to sabotage Tesla, or not.

FoShizzleShindig 2025-10-24 15:53

Hasn't been my wife's experience. Her company car is a model 3 and they just do mobile service in her work parking lot without any upsell or interaction.

FoShizzleShindig 2025-10-24 15:54

Hasn't been my wife's experience with her company provided model 3.

royboypoly 2025-10-24 15:54

Stock will go up cuz we’re living in a timeline of celebrating incompetence

Electrik_Truk 2025-10-24 15:54

That number seems seriously suspect. They sold 38k in 2024 and then sales dropped off a cliff, selling 4-5k per quarter this year. That be more like 53k units. I assume the other 10k or so never sold or got bought by Elon's other ventures like what's been reported. They can absolutely issue recalls on unsold inventory, so my guess would be that's where that number comes from.

Flimsy-Run-5589 2025-10-24 15:54

The good news for Tesla is that the remaining 1.937 million reservations can be updated before delivery.

asdf2k7 2025-10-24 15:56

63,000 dorks

Horror_Salt1523 2025-10-24 15:57

Did they even sell 63,000 Wankpanzers?  Feel bad for the owners, the women in their life stopped putting out when they bought it now the headlights are going to put out less.

Such_Ad2826 2025-10-24 16:03

Maybe they should do a Total recall special ed. Might lure some more

FascinatingGarden 2025-10-24 16:05

Dang, this replacement will require a robot army!

dtyamada 2025-10-24 16:05

I did not. Thanks for that.

Im_better_than__u 2025-10-24 16:07

Tesla recalls its version of a rotisserie oven.

North-Outside-5815 2025-10-24 16:08

So... all of them?

Im_better_than__u 2025-10-24 16:10

I have a new Ford Expedition, and people are constantly flashing their highbeams at me.. sucks because it's just the trucks' normal lights.

BazukaToof 2025-10-24 16:11

Just make a documentary about the Cybertruck and call the movie Total Recall. Imagine if Arnold played Elon.

DohDohDonutzMMM 2025-10-24 16:25

Jonny Cab, "That'll be $175" Arnold, "Bite me" Jonny Cab locks the doors B4 Arnold can open and starts an electrical fire of the cyber truck. Mwahahahaha Jonny Cab, "Have a nice day. Haha"

davewritescode 2025-10-24 16:26

Every car manufacturer can push software updates these days

Such_Ad2826 2025-10-24 16:27

Lol actually not a bad idea, but i'd prefer a mockumentary

babypho 2025-10-24 16:33

I am surprised they sold that many tbh. But then again, in the grand scheme of the entire country and world, 63k isn't that many.

fasada68 2025-10-24 16:38

Isn’t that all of them?

FTR_1077 2025-10-24 16:44

Maybe it's because he obviously has money to spare.. :) ..that's what I tell him, he doesn't find it as funny as me.

BazukaToof 2025-10-24 16:56

Spot on.

Lacrewpandora 2025-10-24 16:58

I shield my eyes from Cybertrucks in daylight.

SuperBrett9 2025-10-24 17:02

Who speaks like this? “may have been inadvertently commanding the parking lamp photometric intensity to be greater than design specifications”

robotNumberOne 2025-10-24 17:09

For what it’s worth, the headlights on the Cybertruck are below the frunk at car level. So they may be bright but they’re not high.

Gumb1i 2025-10-24 17:15

63k? I doubt they have made that many CTs and they damn sure didn't sell that many.

1AnonymousBurner 2025-10-24 17:18

What a brilliant idea. Easily worth a Trillion dollars.

Gumb1i 2025-10-24 17:20

As it's a company car they shouldn't have any interaction with your wife at all beyond handoff. They'll deal with the contract coordinator or fleet services at the company. Your wife shouldn't and technically couldn't sign off on any additional services anyway.

Ornery_Climate1056 2025-10-24 17:21

Do you feel the same way about your phone that gets regular updates for security and what not?

RustyBrassInstrument 2025-10-24 17:37

Isn’t that all of them?

FoShizzleShindig 2025-10-24 17:38

Small company, family owned. Boss just leases the car for employees and she's responsible for coordinating service and tire rotations. It was the same setup when she had a Kia Sportage before the boss got those crazy lease deals awhile back.

ExcitingMeet2443 2025-10-24 17:39

Well the output of actual Cybertrucks has been reduced to (checks notes) around ZERO, so...

javlin_101 2025-10-24 17:40

I guess we know how many they have sold now.

Superbead 2025-10-24 18:18

Wankers

Superbead 2025-10-24 18:19

Have any other brand's fans ever got this aggressive about the semantics of recalls? I doubt it

Space-Trash-666 2025-10-24 18:22

“Still love the truck”

ExtraSmooth 2025-10-24 18:37

It also depends on where they are pointed. Headlights are supposed to be angled slightly downward, but if they are angled ~~perpendicular~~parallel to the road or slightly up they can shine into the mirrors of cars in front, especially if the cars are going over a hill.

WarlaxZ 2025-10-24 18:51

63,000? Isn't that just all of them?

Fit-Dentist6093 2025-10-24 19:10

There's 350m people in the U.S. and average net worth is 700k. I know like five people with one between workmates and neighbors.

SomeOkeByTheSea 2025-10-24 19:10

😂😂👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Warshrimp 2025-10-24 19:14

Conflating issues fixed with OTA updates to software with physical recall campaigns doesn’t help anyone.

hibikir_40k 2025-10-24 19:29

And even if they were adjusted correctly from the factory, someone decides to lift the truck without changing anything else, and suddenly a lot more people get blinded

friendIdiglove 2025-10-24 19:48

And won’t we all be glad Elon will be there to control those robots, lest they… [checks notes from latest investor call] become sentient and attempt a tyrannical uprising?

ElJamoquio 2025-10-24 20:00

> I'm glad there are actually standards for brightness. The standard is written in a way where the brightness is measured at only one location. Tesla designed the optics so that, at that height / distance, there was basically no output of the headlights. Everywhere else is at least 10x as bright.

ElJamoquio 2025-10-24 20:01

Huh? I live in the bay area and I know 0 people with one. How do you know so many shitty people?

ElJamoquio 2025-10-24 20:03

It's getting tougher and tougher to find Nazi owned businesses to support

FlipZip69 2025-10-24 20:06

And the majority (about 50,000) were he first year. Now 1000 per month if that???

Fit-Dentist6093 2025-10-24 20:10

I live in Noe, work in hweng, and do shooting sports. I don't know if they are shitty, have had more shitty issues with NIMBY progressives than Cybertruck owners but I honestly don't talk to them much. Except my neighbor with the founders edition but he's ok. Rough divorce. She was definitely not sane.

Lacrewpandora 2025-10-24 20:11

I doubt it. Of course most other brands never sold private label tequila or shorty shorts to their customers either. Branch Elonians are a special bunch.

tomdurk 2025-10-24 20:21

That must be every one they sold, including to SpaceX

Actual-Carpenter-90 2025-10-24 20:25

Keep’m

raekle 2025-10-24 20:31

Clearly Elon deserves $1 trillion for being able to sell 63,000 cars. /s

Such_Ad2826 2025-10-24 20:44

350m people with 700k averagr net worth, ok not sure where you get your figures but i sincerely doubt that

Send them all to Elmo

bunzy_djownz 2025-10-24 21:18

Again

mrbuttsavage 2025-10-24 21:35

There's almost surely a lot of repeat buyers after their first one or more got Cyberstuck.

mrbuttsavage 2025-10-24 21:37

The instant cremation is a feature if you buy a Cybercoffin.

stupid_cat_face 2025-10-24 21:43

Again?

Momik 2025-10-24 21:52

No. That’s the number within ten miles of a mild incline or light drizzle. This is about anticipating disaster, people…

Darmok47 2025-10-24 21:55

It looks more like the car Van Damme drove in Timecop.

ImpertinentIguana 2025-10-24 22:08

Hi, I'm Mark. You now know six people.

Aerospaced0ut 2025-10-24 22:20

I'm starting to think "tall wedge" may not be the most visually appealing option for vehicle design. Now short wedges... They can kinda get it. Lancia Stratos, Honda HP-X concept, Countach, Alfa Carabo, FC RX7... So many good examples

Aerospaced0ut 2025-10-24 22:26

Also even a slammed widebody CT *would* look good... Basically a cybercamino https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/attachments/tesla-cybertruck-isn-t-a-fridge-on-wheels-but-a-slammed-widebody-cgi-street-fighter_1-jpg.1070163/

Born-Gur-1275 2025-10-24 23:38

Typical Tesla CT. Next recall?

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-24 23:42

There's no accounting for taste.

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-24 23:44

More like 63,000 pretentious assholes that feel important showing the world they can piss away $100k on a rollling crematorium.

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-24 23:44

Get your ass to Mars!

danton_no 2025-10-24 23:44

It is a mockumentary

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-24 23:45

I wonder how easy it would be to get an AI created video of this.

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-24 23:46

You must be running in the wrong circles.

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-24 23:47

I'd be surprised if it was 7k. Most peole these days are covered up in debt.

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-24 23:49

Brightness really isn't the issue as much as the height and angle.

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-24 23:51

They should all be refunded.

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-24 23:52

No, it's 3-in-1: hearse, coffin and crematorium.

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-24 23:55

Probably less when you subtract the ones that self-combusted.

dorchet 2025-10-24 23:56

probably out there trying to spoil another election /s

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-24 23:56

I'm sure it's more than just coincidence that all these agencies are suddenly on his case after losing favor with the Orange Fuhrer.

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-24 23:58

It depends what you are writing and who you are writing to.

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-24 23:59

And will probably take many hours so the car won't run in the morning when everyone has to go to work.

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-25 00:00

Too bad they don't have an "ugly" recall.

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-25 00:02

And make him replace all the lights by himself, one at a time. He needs something to keep him busy so he doesn't stick his nose into anything else and mess it up.

Such_Ad2826 2025-10-25 00:03

A little 30 sec trailer should be doable for people who know their way with ai, we've seen many example of wild ai stuff lately

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-25 00:15

I figured so. I saw some when people were poking fun at Jaguar awhile back. It's just not something I've personally had experience with. So far I've only played with still art.

Acceptable-Rope6000 2025-10-25 00:30

This is shocking when there are better EV trucks for less money.

hypercomms2001 2025-10-25 00:33

morbiiq 2025-10-25 00:35

I’m impressed

Born-Gur-1275 2025-10-25 01:32

Yep. Or, how many recalls does it take to call CT a flop? Hmmm, I remember one was 46k and this one is 63k.

oh_woo_fee 2025-10-25 02:07

Comedy is back!

BazukaToof 2025-10-25 03:53

Royal_Ad_2580 2025-10-25 05:30

Not surprising ! Very bad quality of Tesla. I have 3 Teslas but very disappointed quality and service. 1.5 years car I got the plastic peel off. But not warranty. Never see this kind of bad quality car entire of my life. Don’t buy it.

vic25qc 2025-10-25 05:49

If people bought another Cybertruck I'm ready to count them as 2 morons

chucks-wagon 2025-10-25 06:42

DisastrousIncident75 2025-10-25 08:21

A lot were probably given for free to celebrities and influencers.

IPingFreely 2025-10-25 09:11

I saw two terrible wrap jobs the other day. One was the grim wreaper and the truck covered in flames and aaaaactually that seems about right.

Business-Shoulder-42 2025-10-25 09:24

60k something

GaryTheSoulReaper 2025-10-25 09:56

To remedy the issue, Tesla has already released a free over-the-air (OTA) software update that corrects the front light output

CitronTraining2114 2025-10-25 10:22

Median net worth is about $192K. That's a more meaningful number because the average skews way high due to the billionaire class. I know like five people who point and laugh when they see a Cybertruck. And these are people who have owned trucks all their lives. You probably know a few people who trailer their Harley to Sturgis, too.

A TOTAL RECALL? Elon loves scifi...!

[deleted] 2025-10-25 10:49

It had EIGHT recalls!!  "CT is our best product yet" Elon said Yeah. Is agree. It is! 😂

bossk538 2025-10-25 12:34

Unfortunately I see a lot of them on the road, so idiots are buying them.

PantsMicGee 2025-10-25 13:19

It sucks because your lights are blinding them.  Has nothing to do with you.

notanelonfan2024 2025-10-25 14:05

Oh no. Parking lights so bright… Meanwhile, the experience of people [driving near every other full-sized truck owner](https://imgur.com/XI2Xboh)

notanelonfan2024 2025-10-25 14:10

They’re not crazy bright. Gov’t agencies are just going after Tesla for everything they can think of… trying to “bureaucracy them to death”. CT’s actually pretty great compared to other trucks. The actual head lights/parking lights are down at normal car height, and they’re a lot smaller, so where “normal beams” from an oncoming Ford or Chevy might make you squint or look away in pain at night, the CT just looks like a couple small bright spots down low with that soft glowing bar up top. Overall way less blinding for other drivers.

I never said it would drive well lol. Although I guess the air suspension could be repurposed to give it just enough clearance to make it over speed bumps.   The CT reminds me of the Space Shuttle. They tried to make one vehicle do everything, so it doesn't do any one thing particularly well, and it costs a ton more than vehicles that are purpose built for a specific task or two.

63,000 includes all of the cybertruck’s that haven’t been built yet

TheInternetsLOL 2025-10-25 14:57

Even using average as opposed to median, that is still offensively inaccurate.

Wonder why the other 3,000 weren't recalled...

Let's come up with another term for the second measurements so we don't inadvertently skew the results. Like, first time buy = 1 moron and a second time buy = masochist/shame kink

dtyamada 2025-10-25 15:43

If my phone stops working it won't possibly kill me. You're arguing apples and oranges.

dtyamada 2025-10-25 15:44

Interesting

Retox86 2025-10-25 16:37

I prefer they make it right from the start.

NeverDidLearn 2025-10-25 18:13

There are a lot of morons out there. I live in a small city of 300,000 and see a lot of them around; easily ten a day. More with wraps than without so I know I’m not just traveling in the same circle with the same moron.

dynamadan 2025-10-25 20:17

Elons 500 billion net worth seriously skews that number even if it’s accurate. It sure as hell doesn’t mean that 350 million people have 700k

Battle_of_BoogerHill 2025-10-25 20:46

Nah, they made them pay, too. Just *exclusive access*

ColossusofNero 2025-10-25 20:52

Soooooo, all of ‘em?

kveggie1 2025-10-26 00:30

Is that all of them?

IntentionNegative516 2025-10-26 08:49

Next, the TSLA stock will probably go through the roof.

interpol-interpol 2025-10-26 12:31

not an elon fan he says

notanelonfan2024 2025-10-26 12:39

Correct. As to your earlier edited. “How did you end up in this sub”. Unsure. I own a Real Tesla™?

It's from the Great Cringe Book of Scientific Synonyms. The runner-up was "parking lamp effulgence".

33,000 are sitting in open lots.
