robotaxi testing it seems
Looks more like cybercab to me
It's a cybercab testing. These vehicles have steering wheels and are driving around for validation of the vehicle, not necessary autonomy. Most manufacturers will extensively drive new models in all sorts of conditions and put on as many miles as possible to identify issues before production begins.
Cybercab. Starting production now.
The panel gaps look horrid from 30’ away. I get that this is a prototype, but damn.
Just now saw one of these in Palo Alto, driving round with a tall black antenna/mast on top of the roof. Validation sensors?
Damn thats sick
Is it really a tesla if it doesnt have panel gaps big enough to fit your thumb through?
It’s on vacation from Austin. Leave it alone! They need breaks too.
It's a cybercab an offspring of the cybertruck
Do you think Tesla will just add a steering wheel and call it the model 2 or model Q?
This exact car? Hope not. A different shell on the same udnerlying platform for $25k. I fucking hope so. That'd be a money-printer. But Elon's mind's elsewhere, but I hope he does it.
I thought it looked cool as is. But I’m buying a Slate next.
I can’t believe it’s on public roads without a steering wheel
To me it does look nice personally, but not as a personal car though. As for Slate, their SUV does look funky kind of good. I'd buy it if I had a use for it.
They won't start meaningful production of the Cybercab until unsupervised FSD is really solved. And no, a couple of vehicles in a very small geo-fenced area in Austin doesn't count as "solved". There is no point in having tons of Cybercabs without truly unsupervised FSD software to load onto them.
This one has side mirrors and a steering wheel
I’m wondering how the are going to deal with the snow. My HW3 FSD looks at snow chunks in the road and see rocks. Tries to avoid them. Might make for an interesting ride.
Jesus. Look at the panel gaps on that bad boy.
It’s not
I have a model 3. I like having an electric vehicle. But I dislike all the unnecessary stuff and spyware. The sensors are very annoying. And the central screen. I bought aftermarket gauges so I see my speed right above the steering wheel. I would buy the Slate over any EV out there. I had a K-5 Blazer and S-10 Blazer in my youth. So it reminds me a bit about those. I may buy one and wait for an AWD version.
Would want a back window before I bought it
Yes, that's how you know it's a prototype. I replied to the "starting production now" comment. Even if "production" starts, it'll be a couple dozen vehicles to show to the press and do FSD trials in that tiny geo-fenced area in Austin, it doesn't make sense to mass produce the Cybercab before true unsupervised FSD exists.
I work in Palo Alto Ca. Seen them more than a few times. Still ugly! The Gold doesn’t help. It might look better with a different wrap.
I can see that. As for spyware, I'd actualy trust Tesla more than other brands. All brands track and leak your data, except that Tesla is the only company I'd trust to have slightly better cyber security.
HW3 teslas drive straight through railroad crossing gates
Production is like a freight train with suppliers all lined up with inertia. You don’t just stop it.
Did you see the Cybertruck protos? They were a mess but production is tight.
Yes, that's my point, there won't be any mass production until true unsupervised FSD exists. Until then, they may produce a couple dozen Cybercabs to show to the press and claim "production", but it won't be mass production.
Gives me breaking bad vibes.
Am I missing something?

No, but the production version is pretty bad. I can only imagine how bad the prototypes looked.
So the cab will have a steering wheel?
They plan to remove it after passing regulation, so yp to you to decide if you believe in that
Thanks for letting me know! I just figured they were already out crusin’
That could still take many years if ever. This thing is basically a one person taxi. The TAM is tiny for a car like this
No
Cybercab.
How fast was it going? Did it stay in the middle lane the whole time? IE was it being conservative in its behavior?
So is there no back seat? The passenger sits up front?
Correct. It has a pretty big trunk though
That's how I know Unsupervised will not be anytime soon. They need to "Solve" FSD, then get around the legality of it, then make sure it works on HW4 and THEN go through the whole it may/may not work on HW3 even though it was promised to HW3 buyers.
Would love to see Robotaxi’s pop up in Massachusetts
Did you see a steering wheel
There’s been a few in and around the service center at the northshore mall https://preview.redd.it/6p1dqdqcfqog1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=36f990e0eda1a2f245ad3462314f5e26af8b1411
Funny, I was actually on the way to that mall!
You’ll see them around there. The employees at the service center were very vague when I asked about them
