Wasn’t meant to be 50k when announced (before the excuse making started) ?

BridgeFourArmy 2026-02-25 15:10

With inflation since 2019 that’s like $63k today

Nine_block 2026-02-25 15:11

If you account for inflation since 2019, it has. That 50k is now 63k today.

MN-Car-Guy 2026-02-25 15:11

Awesome. What’s the inflation corrected range for the 500 miles promised?

Michael__Townley 2026-02-25 15:17

Nothing, and the range extender got cancelled too

BridgeFourArmy 2026-02-25 15:17

That didn’t make it

GatorSe7en 2026-02-25 15:20

No the original before incentives was $39,990.

bebefridgers 2026-02-25 15:20

I was for sure planning to pull the trigger on this. I changed my mind when Elon tried to use scammy scarcity tactics.

BridgeFourArmy 2026-02-25 15:21

I reserved last night because there won’t be many chances to get a Cybertruck at this price and transfer FSD

bromanrnd 2026-02-25 15:22

For the RWD variant.

Peimai 2026-02-25 15:26

You can buy a higher trim cybertruck for 60k with only a few thousand miles

Emlerith 2026-02-25 15:27

So the scammy fake scarcity tactic worked

jobfedron132 2026-02-25 15:27

Looks like the scarcity mind trick worked!

Rav4Primer 2026-02-25 15:27

Don't believe the marketing scams.

ChipChester 2026-02-25 15:28

Doesn't seem to be an adjustment in the right direction.

ChunkyThePotato 2026-02-25 15:28

The $50k version was never supposed to have 500 miles of range. It was supposed to have 300 miles of range, and now it has 325 miles. So this version is cheaper and has more range than originally announced.

BridgeFourArmy 2026-02-25 15:28

I cant find one under 70k

pcurve 2026-02-25 15:30

They probably sold a lot. They'll definitely lose money on those.

WrenchmanFerritin 2026-02-25 15:30

Literally this. CTs under 70k are very few and far in between.

BridgeFourArmy 2026-02-25 15:31

Maybe they’ll dip more due to this trim

binzo21 2026-02-25 15:32

Where are you going that you need 500 miles of range without stopping. 99% it’s just a waste of weight carrying around a battery that big. Average American drives less than a handful of miles every trip

JohnTeaGuy 2026-02-25 15:33

Stop stating facts this is Reddit thats not allowed here, only feelings.

overtrustedfart69 2026-02-25 15:33

FSD will make you money!

Munkadunk667 2026-02-25 15:35

Towing literally anything.

Meats10 2026-02-25 15:35

Range experienced deflation to counter price inflation

scientist99 2026-02-25 15:35

2 things I will never buy into, FOMO tactics and nostalgia tactics.

markbraggs 2026-02-25 15:35

Thank you for fact checking that. Some people are so disingenuous

Lovevas 2026-02-25 15:36

The $60K CT now has 7-8 mo waiting, so I am sure Tesla has proved that the issue with CT is price, not the car. So increase the base model price to match the demand makes sense. I guess the price will be increased to $65K-$70K?

Lovevas 2026-02-25 15:37

The current waiting is 7-8 mo (delivery to be Sep-Oct), so the order number must be insane.

ItsAGoodDay 2026-02-25 15:38

Can’t project long term demand based off a 1 month promotion.

ChunkyThePotato 2026-02-25 15:38

The desire to complain about being wronged outweighs the desire for the truth.

RedTheRobot 2026-02-25 15:39

You clearly don’t know Elon. I bought the model 3 midrange when it was released in 2018. In that time the model Y has been at lower price and has better hardware. There is a reason he is dumping these units and it is most likely to make inventory room for something else.

GatorSe7en 2026-02-25 15:40

Correct, the entry level cybertruck. Doesn’t change the fact that it wasn’t and still isn’t even close to that.

GrowingPainsIsGains 2026-02-25 15:40

Not necessarily. Tesla actually has pretty good margins on their cars. For example, their Model 3 can be sold for $38K and they would break even. Obviously it’s not ideal to sell at “break even” price but it could rapidly increase demand which in turn could improve margins at scale.

Lovevas 2026-02-25 15:41

you can't, because you don't have the ability

Impressive-Revenue94 2026-02-25 15:42

That’s like a 2-3 week special pricing only??

SweetExpresso 2026-02-25 15:43

Is there inflation with 3 and Y

txreddit17 2026-02-25 15:43

Tesla still seems to be under the impression that they are in control here. The market determines the price of the CT. There are tons of studies that show that the ability to course correct for most people is hard. A course correction has been needed for a while on the CT. Things that are clear: The CT is sized to compete with full sized trucks like F150, Silverado, RAM. The full sized truck market has shown they want traditional looking trucks. If Tesla wants to build an untraditional looking truck (ie CT) it needs to be marketed to non traditional truck people and be sized appropriately. The combined sales of the Maverick, Ridgeline, Santa Cruz in 2025 was \~230k vs CT of \~20k for example. Either the CT should have been a more traditional looking truck ie R1T or should have been sized to compete with other non traditional trucks. The pickup market in the US is gigantic, just waiting for a non polarizing EV. If Tesla built a "Lightning" or an electric Maverick they would sell a ton of either.

Stivo887 2026-02-25 15:44

I saw a salvage one for 61k once. They go for 70

JoeyDee86 2026-02-25 15:46

I hope no one buys these. Don’t cave to the FOMO, it’s what they want.

planko13 2026-02-25 15:52

Wow I had to go check that myself to believe. Either they just sold a ton of trucks or their capacity is smaller than i thought. Base price will definitely go up a bit in the short term. 60k for this spec is really a good price imo. Enough people like the truck, but the market for $100k vehicles is just tiny.

justpress2forawhile 2026-02-25 15:52

At this point do we just call it FOMO motors? They are leaning heavily into that marketing strategy

scrotumseam 2026-02-25 15:52

What a way to try to FOMO junk truck.

Emergency-Note1162 2026-02-25 15:52

To sell this thing at high volumes. The price needs to start at around 50k, and the size should be slightly reduced. It’s too long and wide for traditional homes and daily practicality. Cybertruck buyers are essentially a new segment of buyers who have owned traditional cars or SUVs (mostly former Tesla owners) and are looking for something different, striking, and hence exploring a truck.

BridgeFourArmy 2026-02-25 15:55

I’m kinda in this group. I’ve wanted an electric truck for 10 years but price and lack of FAD has held me back. This thing will barely fit in my 2 car garage. Cut it 6 inches in width and1 foot in length would help alot.

districtcurrent 2026-02-25 15:55

What? It’s selling so well deliveries are saying October.

mikemacman 2026-02-25 15:55

You forgot the /s

districtcurrent 2026-02-25 15:56

Deliveries are showing October. This new model is doing very well. $50k is likely above the COGS.

BridgeFourArmy 2026-02-25 15:58

I agree with this, there is an opportunity in this market

BridgeFourArmy 2026-02-25 15:59

Reminds me of the Model 3 mid range that I also bought. Loved that car!

electricshadow 2026-02-25 15:59

Another victim of FOMO. Amazing to see it work on people.

TheKingOfSwing777 2026-02-25 16:00

You need a Rivian R1T! Plus they look cooler!

BridgeFourArmy 2026-02-25 16:00

The model 3 had inflation and it took years to have a temporary 35k car that went up in price

[deleted] 2026-02-25 16:00

[deleted]

TheKingOfSwing777 2026-02-25 16:01

You can already get a used one with better specs for less than this.

BridgeFourArmy 2026-02-25 16:01

High five the 3 MR was my first electric!

BuyTimeNow 2026-02-25 16:05

Guaranteed next year this will be 50k.

binzo21 2026-02-25 16:08

Less than 1% of people tow more than 100 miles with a pick up truck. Very niche market

ChunkyThePotato 2026-02-25 16:08

Obviously. Companies often do temporary discounts because they work.

BridgeFourArmy 2026-02-25 16:08

I really love FSD :(

BridgeFourArmy 2026-02-25 16:09

I can’t find one for less than $70k with FSD

ManikSahdev 2026-02-25 16:10

60k seemed to be the right one, I saw the comment underneath ---> which said "deliveries are saying October" -- Well, Elon did create warn about folks on the price to accelerate demand, without that warning and the 10 day cycle or whatever, it would have been closer to demand and less overall.

Nine_block 2026-02-25 16:11

Correct. For a “failed experiment” the resale of the CT is remarkably strong. Better than all of its rivals, no less.

areyoudizzyyet 2026-02-25 16:12

No shit sherlock, have you been to a grocery store in your life and seen how things magically go on sale? What a concept!

areyoudizzyyet 2026-02-25 16:12

No you can't

ChunkyThePotato 2026-02-25 16:13

Cybertruck outsells Rivian R1T by over double, so it seems your analysis is incorrect. Cybertruck is very popular among electric pickup trucks. The problem is that electric pickup trucks just don't sell very much (at least when they cost $80k).

BridgeFourArmy 2026-02-25 16:13

People here keep saying I can find $60k used cyber trucks anywhere and I can’t

LieutenantButthole 2026-02-25 16:15

F/SD

areyoudizzyyet 2026-02-25 16:15

And these people aren't wronged in any way, they just now dislike the CEO because of his politics, so they will find any reason to bitch and moan about Tesla

TremontMeshugojira 2026-02-25 16:16

They’re just building out a price elasticity curve. Very valuable info to have about your own product line

areyoudizzyyet 2026-02-25 16:16

Delivery dates are already being pushed back to September/October. Sorry!

ElectronicAide87 2026-02-25 16:17

It looks Elon pulled the FOMO trick on a lot of you. Those saying to look at the expected delivery of October to prove the Cuber truck is selling; you realize Elon can change that date to anything he wants. The mixture of the 10 day timeline and the pushed out delivery date is just another sales tactic that seems to have tricked a lot of.

Radium 2026-02-25 16:21

They probably measured the orders level and found it to be too fast for production at the moment. Maybe we see it come back later next year or sooner as production ramps? Depends entirely on how many Cybertrucks Tesla ends up wanting to produce. An amazingly good problem to have. It means there is very high demand for Cybertruck.

brandinimo 2026-02-25 16:23

Disagree, looking nationally there’s less than 10 in that price range and they typically have issues or accidents.

brandinimo 2026-02-25 16:25

Order placed, we’ve got seven or eight months to see how this plays out and there will be plenty of review videos posted in June.

theycallmebekky 2026-02-25 16:28

Maybe if they kept it at this price, they would start playing catch-up with how many CTs they expected to sell around this time.

WatchLover26 2026-02-25 16:29

I can’t stand the FOMO crap tactics

txreddit17 2026-02-25 16:29

You are proving the point. The R1T looks like a more traditional truck but from a manufacturer many traditional truck people have never heard of. Tesla is a huge brand. If Tesla made the R1T it would also sell a ton. If they used Tesla's economies of scale and could sell an R1T for 60k it would sell a ton on brand awareness alone.

BridgeFourArmy 2026-02-25 16:29

Yeah to lock in FSD I thought $250 is worth the risk

TheKingOfSwing777 2026-02-25 16:31

Ah, Autonomy+ will be here by end of year with point-to-point. Should be about as good based on the video reviews, but guess we will have to wait and see.

unanonmyous 2026-02-25 16:37

Rivian is hot garbage. And I say that as a RIVN stock holder with a long term play. I hope to be proven wrong with R2.

skotywa 2026-02-25 16:37

By March 1st, when this deal expires, they will have filled their entire CT production capacity for the rest of the year. This was a brilliant move to entice the Tesla fans who were on the fence about CT due to pricing. Now they have at least a year to figure out what their next marketing move is with CT. Until then the CT production line is swamped with backlogged orders.

dubie4x8 2026-02-25 16:39

![gif](giphy|WRRIEjIXvWFUlOIFi0)

MobileVortex 2026-02-25 16:39

so, wait you don't buy things on sale if they are going to end?

ChunkyThePotato 2026-02-25 16:43

Cybertruck sells more than Chevy Silverado EV even though that's an established brand and likely is priced well below cost. So no, the fact is that electric pickup trucks simply don't sell. Cybertruck is very popular for being an electric pickup truck.

TheTimeIsChow 2026-02-25 16:51

No price change/structure will lead to this thing ever selling in high volumes. It just won't. The fact of the matter is that it's simply too late. It's a branding/consumer perception issue at this point which turned for the worst before it even hit the road. It's not a price one. And that is a hole that's typically impossible to dig your way out of. Not trying to be a negative nancy. It's just a fact. Lowering the price will help it sell *better*... but it will never truly be a high volume vehicle with long-term viability. I'm sure sales this quarter will touch 50-75k or something and people will point fingers. But it won't stay that way. The 'fix' is to scrap the program, rename it, and re-shell it. Something Musk said they would do if it didn't sell well. Musk continuing to sit on and promote this 'market changer' mindset, is only making things worse.

txreddit17 2026-02-25 16:53

I mean that part is true that the Silverado looks more like a traditional pickup. The problem is Chevy doesnt have the knowledge of how to make an efficient full sized EV truck. Ford cant either apparently. Chevy put a 205 kWh battery in it and it literally weighs a ton (2000 to 2300 lbs) more than a CT. That is going to make the cost to produce unsustainable. Buyers dont want a 9000lb truck EV.

lzrjck69 2026-02-25 16:54

Can we just get a small(er) cybertruck already?

TheChalupaMonster 2026-02-25 16:56

It's possible this is a concept trim. In which case they'll need time to engineer the de-contented suspension, interior upholstery, audio system, etc. Suppliers need lead time to deliver on the requirements.

greenblaster 2026-02-25 16:56

Bridges are selling well these days

ChunkyThePotato 2026-02-25 17:06

Obviously the cost is unsustainable, but they priced it far below cost and below even the Cybertruck, and it *still* sells less than Cybertruck. So even with cheating by having an artificially low price, Silverado EV is still less popular than Cybertruck. I don't know why it's so hard for you to believe that Cybertruck is simply very popular among electric pickup trucks, but electric pickup trucks don't sell.

Fiss 2026-02-25 17:10

I’m surprised they haven’t canceled it. The good thing about them canceling the S and X is sales numbers were grouped with this so now we will see actual truck sales.

c4koth 2026-02-25 17:28

No, he waits for the regular price to return. He will not be pushed into buying something for less.

EBikeAddicts 2026-02-25 17:32

people talking about not falling for the FOMO. But I was already looking to order it tomorrow with a friend. Now I wont anymore because this price increase tells me they are going to discontinue it or replace it with something else and that scares me if I need car parts in 5 years I don’t want to have to wait months for parts.

BridgeFourArmy 2026-02-25 17:33

I was surprised too

BridgeFourArmy 2026-02-25 17:35

Agreed, a foot shorter and a half foot narrower

Rav4Primer 2026-02-25 17:37

Less than what? The price 10 days from now? You are assuming Elon isn't lying, which is always a risky bet. Pause for a second and think: would Tesla and their suppliers really be interested in going through the trouble of engineering and manufacturing parts for a downgraded version of the Cybertruck that they only sell for a few weeks? How would that benefit Tesla or their suppliers? How would it even remotely make financial sense? We're talking about a model that only captured 20k sales last year. This is yet another attempt from Elon to create false scarcity to spark demand. The reality is that they have a Cybertruck gigacast and an assembly line that desperately needs orders. If the actually increase the price they will drop it again near end of quarter. They've done the same thing with the model y claiming that it's the last chance to get a low interest rate. And time and time again, they reinstate the low interest rate.

Aptosauras 2026-02-25 17:42

>*or their capacity is smaller than i thought.* Yes, people here are saying "a 6 month waiting list shows that demand is high". Well, yes. If Tesla makes 10,000 CT's a month, then demand is fantastic for this trim. If Tesla makes 1000 per month, then demand is still very soft.

DialMMM 2026-02-25 17:43

They should drop the Premium AWD $5k and raise the AWD $5k.

schmidtyb43 2026-02-25 17:43

Do you own one? Sounds like you don’t. I do and I love it even more than my old model 3

TheKingOfSwing777 2026-02-25 17:45

Doesn't seem like you've seen the video reviews of Autonomy+.

CarlCarl3 2026-02-25 18:01

show me where the scam touched you

CarlCarl3 2026-02-25 18:01

You all act like no other automaker has ever offered a temporary deal on a vehicle. Calm down.

CTrandomdude 2026-02-25 18:01

This 60k option appears to have some demand and will keep that assembly line open. Deliveries now pushed back to Sept-October. Not sure how many units that translates to though. I guess if orders fall off drastically they can adjust the price again but I still don’t think even at 60k these units will sell at a consistent level. It makes sense for an initial rush of orders but not sure if that would have ever translated to a steady order book

MN-Car-Guy 2026-02-25 18:02

There was a 500 mile range promised. Never delivered. At any money.

Illustrious_Rich_311 2026-02-25 18:18

What about all the unsold inventory rotting away?

Radium 2026-02-25 18:21

They're selling at a high enough pace to clear out. These new AWD models will make up the majority of production going forward. They seem to still be making a ton of them. I don't think there is as big of a backlog as you think either.

tayl428 2026-02-25 18:26

It's cruiseline pricing now. Next week, it will be buy one at $120k, get one free.

ooo00 2026-02-25 18:32

Price will absolutely make a huge difference. Look at the sales numbers of the S and X compared to the Y and 3. $50k vs $100k is a massive difference and would sway a lot of buyers.

MrGruntsworthy 2026-02-25 18:38

It's wild that Canada never got a chance to have this trim. I still have my reservation open from the night the Cybertruck was unveiled. I would have converted on this. But nope

nopeynopenooope 2026-02-25 18:44

I doubt it. Public perception of Tesla and ESPECIALLY the CT is massively negative relative to launch. Seems like too little too late.

BridgeFourArmy 2026-02-25 18:45

I talked to Tesla because I have a night one reservation and they said to refund it. On the backend it probably will cause issues. Just make a new reservation. I’m nostalgic enough to have kept it for years.

ItsAGoodDay 2026-02-25 18:50

If that’s the case then they’d have to be the dumbest fucking company if they’re only learning this three years into production. Far more likely that they just have a massive lack of demand and are trying to keep the manufacturing line active so it doesn’t turn into a total black hole

GoSh4rks 2026-02-25 18:55

> There is a reason he is dumping these units and it is most likely to make inventory room for something else. Dumping units that haven't been built yet? Dumping a new set of components that are only used in this trim level?

Munkadunk667 2026-02-25 18:59

3 million trucks were sold in the US in 2025. The Cybertruck sold 20,000 units in 2025. That equates to %0.7. By your logic they should just stop making the Cybertruck. I guess all that to say I agree with you that the Cybertruck needs to never be made.

a3ZKdvQnhjDt9jJ 2026-02-25 19:05

Not when it’s fake. This is obviously a lame sales tactic by a brand with no direction. A limited time sale, or a discontinued product on discount is one thing, a FOMO-style “buy it now or you’ll never get this!!” by a brand that has repeatedly done this is not enticing. It’s actually a warning for anyone with two working brain cells

a3ZKdvQnhjDt9jJ 2026-02-25 19:06

Yup!! See my other comment that’s nested under your main one

0Rider 2026-02-25 19:06

They sold a bunch of them to other musk companies. The 250k a year demand never materialized

FTD_Brat 2026-02-25 19:09

Hasn’t materialized *yet*

Radium 2026-02-25 19:13

Actually, demand has always been there, especially at the new lower price point. It was actually production ramp that was delayed due to the delay producing dry cathode and anode for faster production of 4680 cells. Remping is now in progress to hit the higher quantity production.

FTD_Brat 2026-02-25 19:15

It is a pretty simple gamble though; If the price goes down by $5k or more I will 100% cancel my current order as I order at the new lower price and eat the $250 order fee. If it goes up I’ve already won.

ChickerWings 2026-02-25 19:16

Which direction is the trend moving? Is that even publicly available? If sales YOY are dropping in every market, ehy would one of their worst performing models be improving?

FTD_Brat 2026-02-25 19:18

4+ months worth of preorders isn’t enough of an indicator that demand is currently outstripping capacity for a model that isn’t available yet?

ChickerWings 2026-02-25 19:19

I was in a restaurant the other day with a CT parked outside, there were a few twentysomethings sitting by the window being absolutely brutal with mockery toward it (I'm sure we've heard all the common jokes by now). They went on and on for like 15 minutes, then the guy sitting at the table RIGHT NEXT TO THEM stood up, walked outside and drove away in the CT. The kids went wild with laughter but I'm sure the guy driving the CT felt pretty shitty about it. I certainly felt bad for him.

ChickerWings 2026-02-25 19:21

No, because that's literally the tactic, and it will undoubtedly go on sale for even cheaper eventually.

ChickerWings 2026-02-25 19:22

Not really. How many of the original pre-orders turned into deliveries? Pre-orders are just a vanity metric, but its too easy to cancel them to actually be a valuable indicator.

FTD_Brat 2026-02-25 19:25

Things are a little different this time around. The original preorders were only $100 (and refundable) and I still have mine because there doesn’t seem to be a way to apply the referral discount or mil discount when ordering via the preorder. These orders are a $250 non-refundable deposit each.

ChunkyThePotato 2026-02-25 19:26

Would you say that about the other electric pickup trucks? Because the others sell less than Cybertruck.

theycallmebekky 2026-02-25 19:28

It was a half sarcastic remark. The guy in charge has irreparably ruined the image of anything Tesla which sucks to see.

MightyTribble 2026-02-25 19:30

4+ months of pre-orders at what production volume, though? Certainly not 250K/yr volume (which would imply 80K+ pre-orders). They sold 25K CT in 2025. 4 months of pre-orders at that rate would be 8K.

BridgeFourArmy 2026-02-25 19:38

I agree with this, I still have my original unveiling night pre order. The price changes were too much for me. It’s important though to have solid goalposts. Let’s see numbers this year on Cybertruck and if Q4 can maintain this sales rush there is a lot of hope for this line, at least compared to now.

BridgeFourArmy 2026-02-25 19:39

I hope on the next earnings call to hear questions about costs of each trim and margins

Munkadunk667 2026-02-25 19:42

There were 26,000 Ford Lightning's sold in the US in 2025.

PracticeBurrito 2026-02-25 19:47

Sure, but so what? Elon announced the dual motor price as $49,900. He didn’t say “the price is $49,900 but actually I’m lying because we’re not even close to shipping and we’re never going to sell it at that price and it will be more than that when we ship because #inflation.”

GeniusEE 2026-02-25 19:57

So much for fixing the 4680 cells...the price should have gone DOWN.

Snakend 2026-02-25 20:07

This attempt to create FOMO is hilarious.

Nine_block 2026-02-25 20:18

The guy successful enough to buy an 80-120k truck likely couldn’t care less what some broke ass virgins think of his vehicle choice.

ChickerWings 2026-02-25 20:20

You'd probably be surprised how vain and insecure many wealthy people are. I would point out a glaring example, but it probably wouldnt go over well considering the subreddit.

MHulk 2026-02-25 20:57

Why would anyone care what some random 20 something's in a bar think? If your wife and kids love you (or insert other family members here as appropriate), why would you care about some random in a bar? I'm sure he was fine.

theDinoSour 2026-02-25 21:08

Wait, you don’t make that call based on context? (Product to be discontinued, not supported, rife with problems, has a CEO or salesteam that will obfuscate problems…or solid life cycle, well-supported, who knows .) Point is there can be several other factors that influence whether or not it’s wise to buy something just because it is on sale.

StanleyShen 2026-02-25 21:10

60k, after everything including tax or whatever fee, it is 71k

theAerialDroneGuy 2026-02-25 21:11

Seems like they want less people to buy it?

SpadesOfENT 2026-02-25 21:12

The "non-refundable" order deposit is not real. Any CC company will give a chargeback. Also, any service center manager will refund it when asked nicely. This is from personal experience, and also having worked at Tesla.

ChickerWings 2026-02-25 21:17

I'm sure he's built up a thick skin for sure, and hope it didnt get to him.

dl092 2026-02-25 21:20

just say kevin durant and nobody would dispute it

MobileVortex 2026-02-25 21:24

Yeah, my point was just that literally every sale has an end :P The optics behind everything Tesla is bad which is a lot of the context.

theDinoSour 2026-02-25 21:27

Sorry mate, sometimes I just cant tell anymore if people are serious or not. Usually it’s obvious, but there are so many fan-boys in this sub I assume incorrectly

Ill_Somewhere_3693 2026-02-25 21:28

Wait list til September/ October? As Tesla starts building these, what will happen to the massive already built inventory piled up in lots all over the country? Those will just continue to sit?

AdditionalLead7265 2026-02-25 21:36

Going to place an order for the super lean version in hopes they bring back Luxe package

ChunkyThePotato 2026-02-25 21:36

True! But this version has more range than originally stated, and for a lower price. I'd argue that's more important, because most people wouldn't buy the $80k+ version anyway. But yes, that expensive version definitely has less range than originally announced.

AdditionalLead7265 2026-02-25 21:36

I demo drove one the other day, it doesn't fit in my garage. It's a hair too long

samcrut 2026-02-25 21:38

It's a cash grab. Limited time offer. Must finalize purchase before March arrives. The more they push the consequences of not buying now, the more desperate you know they are to get rid of them. They'd probably sell better as bare bones skates for kit car builders. DIY Tesla kit.

AdditionalLead7265 2026-02-25 21:39

The parts already exist. You do this to clear out surplus stock because you're transitioning to something else

AdditionalLead7265 2026-02-25 21:40

Lock in FSD?

AdditionalLead7265 2026-02-25 21:42

Is it possible to change your order before delivery? Like if I ordered the $59k version but suddenly decided on Cyberbeast, can I do that without losing the $250?

AdditionalLead7265 2026-02-25 21:44

I figure I'll eat the $250 since I have until October to make a decision

samcrut 2026-02-25 21:47

Being **mocked** for driving what he thought would score him a constant stream of jealous reactions is definitely going to make him smolder with rage.

40KWarsTrek 2026-02-25 21:47

Here's hoping this is only because they now have a backlog through October, and will lower the price again after ramping production again. Would seem mighty foolish to keep going with the old prices in the long run which were clearly killing Cybertruck.

BridgeFourArmy 2026-02-25 21:50

FSD is subscription only but I bought it pre 2020. I transferred it from my 3 to my current Y. They stopped selling it outright on 2/14 this year and it’s subscription only. They are able to transfer it for reservations made before 3/31. So in a few months I should be able to transfer it from my Y to the truck without ever touching subscriptions.

samcrut 2026-02-25 21:54

LOL! Production? They're renting mall parking lots to hold all of their overstock. Miles of cars to sell if you stick them end to end. (Yes, that was a weak-ass reference to the 1980 movie Used Cars, starring Kurt Russel.)

Radium 2026-02-25 22:08

That was a tiny amount of cars I saw that photo too. Simple rolling lot for a local service center no doubt. Leasing an abandoned mall's parking lot for cheap because they were desperate for money. Actually smart.

AdditionalLead7265 2026-02-25 22:08

Yeah I have a Y but I was just confused by your wording is all. I'm going to order the $59k truck and if luxe comes back try to change my order

betterliftyourCC 2026-02-25 22:09

I cancelled my reservation and went with the MSP specifically because it won’t fit in the garage bay I need to use.

nopeynopenooope 2026-02-25 22:14

as the comment below notes… At a certain wealth point, literally all people care about is what others think of them. Once you have more than $100m, it is all a pissing contest. Just look at Musk and Zuck wanting to throw down in MMA a while back

MN-Car-Guy 2026-02-25 22:17

I’d never buy an EV pickup with under 400 miles of range.

GoSh4rks 2026-02-25 22:18

You're telling me that the textile seats, different center console, and coil springs that are exclusive to the cheapest trim level are all surplus stock? Parts that had zero use prior to the introduction of this trim?

FTD_Brat 2026-02-25 22:18

It is possible they only planned to sell a particular amount and are now using the extended production timeline to dissuade more orders. Maybe they underestimated how many sales they would have at the $60k price point?

ChunkyThePotato 2026-02-25 22:20

Buy a Silverado EV then. Those are just flying off the shelves.

AdditionalLead7265 2026-02-25 22:21

The temporary Model Y trim should speak for itself bud.

BridgeFourArmy 2026-02-25 22:24

I’m hoping they can eventually get the cheapest to match F150 comparable trims. If it’s electric vs gas it gets much easier to convert people.

GoSh4rks 2026-02-25 22:28

What temporary Model Y trim? Why would those CT parts already exist if not to support a lower trim level?

SuspiciousAppliance 2026-02-25 22:42

Probably the one that sold for like 2 or 3 weeks before being taken off the face of the Earth. That said it's not uncommon for auto makers or even manufacturing facilities in other industries to repurpose parts for clearing out stock. Samsung does it a lot which is their Galaxy FE line.

samcrut 2026-02-25 22:43

Photo? As in one photo of one lot, singular?

Qs9bxNKZ 2026-02-25 22:44

You don’t get 500 miles range. Few drive the EPA speed limit and cold temps sap the battery. Battery degradation is also real meaning about 100K miles on a vehicle can see you down 100 miles as well

Radium 2026-02-25 22:55

They have 460 worldwide service centers, so I imagine each one has a lot somewhere for car logistics as they sell them.

MN-Car-Guy 2026-02-25 23:03

Yes, Silverado EV and Sierra EV are superior EV trucks if you’re using them as, you know, trucks.

One-Sundae-2711 2026-02-25 23:03

no way they are still selling these things

shaneucf 2026-02-25 23:04

nah, 1st Gen Tesla and the price is jumping around. No thanks.

ChunkyThePotato 2026-02-25 23:09

Towing hundreds of miles is the only way to use a truck? Have you heard of a pickup bed, for example? Regardless, the market doesn't care what you personally think. Cybertruck sells more.

areyoudizzyyet 2026-02-25 23:11

Rich people don't give a shit about what broke people think of them

Salty_Leather42 2026-02-25 23:31

It’s not like they didn’t know it was for future release. In that case, I promise to sell my p3d for 10k. Any takers ? Final price not to exceed 30k but then by the time I’m ready maybe it’s 50k

MadMensch 2026-02-26 00:12

I placed my order today also. Don’t forget if you’re a current Tesla owner you get a $1k loyalty credit. https://preview.redd.it/uk3twi4aeqlg1.jpeg?width=1320&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=006bd5c7d6a2c14d9dbd7226ee38714a118e3377

Upstairs-Tea-6862 2026-02-26 00:15

Don’t buy it then they’ll have to adjust for “market demand”

hitekstudio 2026-02-26 00:15

Mine just took 7 weeks and came by transport carrier directly from Texas. I believe most of the overstock is gone or allotted to either the Middle East deal or sold to SpaceX. While sales are still way down, the 10-day promo is intended to level or reverse the trend. We'll see. Looks aside...its a technology masterpiece. FSD has changed my life.

hitekstudio 2026-02-26 00:17

They all went to huge Middle East deal and to SpaceX

hitekstudio 2026-02-26 00:27

One of the 5 principles of any company's marketing campaign is "create a sense of urgency". If you give customers infinite time to make a decision, the majority will take the full amount. (never) So I guess any ad or discount is a "cash grab".

40KWarsTrek 2026-02-26 00:29

I have no idea what a comparable trim would be on a Ford. What sort of prices are we talking? They'll certainly never get it down to the entry level F-150 price of around $40k.

ChickerWings 2026-02-26 00:34

What makes you say that? Without revealing too many details, I know a significant number that seem like they're obsessed with exactly that. Plus, you dont have to be (actual) rich to afford a cybertruck.

Saltyeconbro 2026-02-26 00:40

No way, I think unless they release the 40k version, there is no demand

Ok-Image1141 2026-02-26 02:24

I owned an 80k Cybertruck, and had people flipping me off while driving. I literally didn’t care.

RojerLockless 2026-02-26 02:50

Honesty if the truck had basic AP. Or allow me.to BUY FSD id order it right now. But it doesnt.

BridgeFourArmy 2026-02-26 02:56

Thanks and I did! Congrats!!

BridgeFourArmy 2026-02-26 03:03

A lariat 4x4 with hands free, retractable cover, and tow package is $72k online. Idk if that’s super comparable engine wise for tow and stuff but it’s closer than I thought.

BridgeFourArmy 2026-02-26 03:04

FSD transfer available through end of next month as long as you reserve. That was the tipping point of taking this seriously.

remixedbyrichie 2026-02-26 03:12

Just took delivery of a 26 Premium AWD.. I love it.. buy what you like.. who cares what others think..

BridgeFourArmy 2026-02-26 03:13

Admittedly when I got my 3 there was a lot of negativity. Especially other cars for awhile and I just zoomed past. Would appreciate the EV community celebrating a price drop though

RojerLockless 2026-02-26 03:25

Yeah but I dont have it on my MYP because AP is totally fine. Buuuut I want it on the CT because theres no AP. And they turned it off before they offered this one. Sigh. If they opened up fsd buying for this car for only this week id do it

ChickerWings 2026-02-26 04:29

Ok thanks for sharing

hutacars 2026-02-26 05:30

> The problem is Chevy doesnt have the knowledge of how to make an efficient full sized EV truck. a) you just moved the goal posts, b) these are pickup buyers, they don't care. The Chevy has by far the longest range, which if anything is what buyers really care about, and costs about the same as CyT, yet sells way less. Tells you all you need to know about the market: a) the electric truck market is tiny, and b) the Cybertruck sells very well within that tiny market.

hutacars 2026-02-26 05:31

> I don't know why it's so hard for you to believe that Cybertruck is simply very popular among electric pickup trucks, but electric pickup trucks don't sell. He's wishcasting failure.

nopeynopenooope 2026-02-26 05:48

so much so you felt the need to leave a comment here 😂

MadMensch 2026-02-26 05:51

Thanks and you too!

Nice-Entrepreneur138 2026-02-26 06:08

Do you think that the features that were removed are worth the 20k difference?

673NoshMyBollocksAve 2026-02-26 06:20

I’m not the market for one, but $60k seems the right price point for a product like this. Especially given regular ICE ford trucks can go upwards of 90 or 100k

Ok-Image1141 2026-02-26 06:45

No I was responding to someone who said that people who buy them care so much. We really don’t. It’s sad actually. But I do understand that everyone is different, and maybe need love. We all do. Jesus loves you my friend.

wootini_ 2026-02-26 11:57

This is arguably the question that matters most.

BridgeFourArmy 2026-02-26 13:53

It’s still worth it for me. I can see air suspension, back seat screen, back seat heaters, etc…. Adding up. Especially the suspension.

windydrew 2026-02-26 14:04

The 40k model was RWD and reduced range. The 60k AWD model was $50k pre inflation, which is like $63k today. So they may release a 250 mile RWD model for under $50k still

Tough-Winner-1274 2026-02-26 20:42

With the employee sitting at the helm not allowing the reviewer to sit in driver seat? Yeah...

IamTheMainActor77 2026-02-26 22:09

Seriously? Who still buys this POS???

BridgeFourArmy 2026-02-26 22:10

I put in my reservation this week. It’s the smoothest truck ride I’ve ever driven.

atxer 2026-02-26 22:50

So you paid for the FSD originally?

atxer 2026-02-26 22:54

CT sells more than all other EV trucks only because it's a Tesla. There are Tesla fans that buy them and then there are people on the fence that like the reliability of the brand over other EV manufacturers. The charging infrastructure being the biggest selling point.

ChunkyThePotato 2026-02-26 22:55

Why is it so hard for you to say that it's simply a better product people want more?

atxer 2026-02-26 23:40

Tesla as a whole yes. The cyber truck, no. I have two Teslas that are not cyber trucks. I love both of them. If Tesla made a conventional truck like an R1T, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

BridgeFourArmy 2026-02-26 23:55

I did back in 2018/2109 I can’t remember which.

txreddit17 2026-02-27 00:33

Same with me. I would buy a truck from Tesla. I already have an SUV EV. Just don’t use such a polarizing design and it would take off.

remixedbyrichie 2026-02-27 02:34

For sure!

bittabet 2026-02-27 04:30

That's fine but they're already backlogged pretty badly so even if the price does eventually come back down you're gonna be at the end of a very long line. The moment I saw it slip to Sept-Oct I put my order through and now it's quoting sometime in 2027 (likely after April since it was showing April 2027 earlier today and now they're not even saying April)

GOA_AMD65 2026-02-27 11:28

With deliveries now pushed to April 2027, I’m going to order today. $60k over a year from now, should be quite the deal. And for whatever reason it isn’t, I’ll just be out the $250.

chaaseeee 2026-02-27 12:09

A lot of very, very miserable people in these replies

ChickenFlavoredCake 2026-02-27 17:41

There's no such thing. Tesla is good at inventory management, look at their quarterly report for vehicles produced and vehicles delivered. Smoothbrains see photos of bunch of cars in a parking lot and assume they're retired there due to a lack of inventory.

ChickenFlavoredCake 2026-02-27 17:44

I don't know, it seems like you're the insecure one lol. You felt bad for the CT owner, if it happened to you then you'd probably go home and cry about it lol. I don't have a CT, I have a 24 Y. I only ever had one negative interaction where a guy in a civic at the lights laughed and asked how I'm liking the depreciation. I laughed too, cause bro was criticizing my car sitting in a 2010 civic lol.

ChickerWings 2026-02-27 17:46

What? I meant that I felt bad for the guy getting ridiculed. I dont like to see people bullied. You seem like you're probably more similar to those kids.

ChickenFlavoredCake 2026-02-27 17:51

My point was, you seemed to have been bothered by it more than the owner, and how most people would be in that situation.

ChickerWings 2026-02-27 17:58

Uh....are you OK? I'm pretty sure the civic guy was making a joke, and then you turn it into some wealth measuring thing? Cmon, actually rich people are not driving a model Y, lol. It's a fine car, but its not on the level you might think it is haha..

ChickenFlavoredCake 2026-02-27 18:12

Well, I was there so I know what the tone of the conversation was. My story was not about the Y being a rich people's car, it's about going out of way to criticize someone else's objectively nicer car when you're sitting in a shitbox. It's the same thing with the 20 something year olds criticizing a $100k Cybertruck, which statistically they cannot afford. Such criticisms don't hold any weight in these scenarios.

GaryTheSoulReaper 2026-02-27 21:05

Elon just ducks around with ppl this way As a shareholder I’m kinda glad idiots fall for it

IamTheMainActor77 2026-02-27 22:50

Congrats, here is your gold star! Good luck doing actual truck stuff with it.

Born_Difficulty8309 2026-02-28 06:40

not surprising but still frustrating. 60k felt like the sweet spot where it was actually competitive

Born_Difficulty8309 2026-02-28 06:41

not surprising but still frustrating. 60k felt like the sweet spot where it was actually competitive

goodvibezone 2026-02-28 14:59

Elon: "how do we sell more of these" Marketing exec: "what if we made them cheaper" ....

Aedrikor 2026-03-01 19:53

Well, it went up. Now what hotshot

Rav4Primer 2026-03-01 20:06

And it's going to drop again - just like the price cuts and low interest rates on the Y and the 3.

Electronic_Gap_3450 2026-03-03 01:32

lol

mustangfld 2026-03-03 05:53

Do not want another Scout IH, been there already. Enjoyed it back then. Every time I see the Rivian it brings back those memories. On to new horizons.
