Find it, fix it, build it better. 0 system is perfect.

psaux_grep 2026-02-18 22:06

/dev/null is kinda great

Darkelement 2026-02-18 22:11

As per the article “This vulnerability is present in all modern cars” He just happened to have a model 3 and cybertruck to test with.

Some very loose definitions of "vulnerabilities" there. Basically they can spoof a cell tower and send fake text message to the car?

cmdr-William-Riker 2026-02-18 22:18

`ln -sf /dev/null /your/data/is/my/data`

Ich_han_nen_deckel 2026-02-18 22:18

This is such a non-news. Research-Clickbait at its best.

sailirish7 2026-02-18 22:26

We've known about IMSI catchers since the Feds started using Stingrays post 9/11

Cyb-T 2026-02-18 22:35

Well the entire article applies also to every cellphone out there. So very click bait and no technical details of actual exploits, just pointing at vulnerabilities in the 4G modem stack...

SnooDogs7747 2026-02-18 22:48

And any and all mobile devices without exception. Absolutely embarrassing to publish this as „research“, GPT can just tell you that.

Ok-Improvement-3670 2026-02-18 23:03

What danger would this pose to an owner?

shaneucf 2026-02-18 23:11

Hey we also discovered a BIG security vulnerability of Tesla! If you hit it with a tank, it'll be crashed!! Surprise surprise.

Nihilater 2026-02-18 23:22

In other news water is wet. CANBUS and other such bus networks have had this vulnerability for decades. Look at industrial sites and you’ll find plenty there. Are we gonna do anything about it? Probably not.

hotdog-water-- 2026-02-18 23:28

Typical Clickbait trying to seem like it’s a Tesla issue lol

asswizzard69 2026-02-18 23:31

Would probably be a dumb car to steal no? With all the tracking and smart features you would think so. But I’d say the PIN code would alleviate this concern and don’t even need to buy any extra security device it’s built in the car

bones_boy 2026-02-19 00:15

Wish there was an upgrade path from the 4G modems to the more secure 5G modems/connectivity.

Rtfmlife 2026-02-19 02:19

Don't worry this will be posted to /r/electricvehicles and get 70 thousand upvotes shortly.

AJHenderson 2026-02-19 04:03

This is an absolute joke. This is simply pointing out the cellular network isn't designed to prevent rogue towers. But Tesla's communicate over secure communication so it doesn't matter at all.

AJHenderson 2026-02-19 04:04

This article is just describing how cellular networks are designed by design and describing it as a vulnerability. It isn't.

SpicyElixer 2026-02-19 04:55

I don’t see it. Do we really need a persecution complex over our favorite car company? The vulnerability is not exclusive to those two cars, as clearly stated in the article regarding educational security research.

icy1007 2026-02-19 05:29

This is false. No actual vulnerability exists.

Quin1617 2026-02-19 06:03

Actually water itself isn’t wet, it makes other things wet. Sorry, I couldn’t resist. You should’ve said the sky is blue instead.

FuzzyFr0g 2026-02-19 10:16

My country keeps record of stolen vehicles. There are alot of Tesla’s on our roads! It’s the Netherlands so we have a very good EV adoption. In a year about 10 Tesla’s get stolen (compares to 760 toyota’s) 100% of the Tesla’s are found and returned. The average of other brands is 30-40% returned. So yeah stealing a Tesla is pretty stupid.

eatmorbacon 2026-02-19 14:52

Don't let the facts get in the way of click bait Tesla bashing.

HenryLoenwind 2026-02-19 16:31

The danger that the car isn't able to talk to the Tesla server and the app. With this "attack", the attacker can create an artificial zone of no reception. Like wrapping the car in aluminium foil, just easier.

acr42racing 2026-02-21 04:33

Click baiiiiiit

A Tesla is like a big as iPhone. All other EVs are like androids
