How insecure does one have to be
The chepo MY
That's not a person being insecure that's testing of an unreleased model, likely the performance Y. Car manufacturers add that body camouflage to hide new body details
I’m pretty sure that was a joke
100%. Has the back windshield separated from the non-glass steel roof.
El Chepo
The thing about jokes, is you have to make sure the audience knows it's a joke
Lol I thought it was someone being ashamed of Elon
Can someone explain the point of these coverings? They seem to provide no real benefit outside of hiding general aesthetic choices, which is odd when I see R2 postings and they merely have a u due wrap on them. What’s the deal? Is there something I’m missing?
Small back door I believe, they shortened the Y
Could be the extended model y. That's a really long over hang. Similar to the option offered in Asia.
Is the audience of the commenter size 1 or size n+2 here? I have no stake in the matter. Just saying plainly, it’s probably a joke.
The covers are used to hide the looks of the new cars. Some companies use cloth covers, while others use wraps that have special patterns on them to hide contours. Generally the interior is also covered. Companies don't want to leak the details of new model launches, or model refreshs since this can have an impact on the sales of the current generation model.
Wow. Musk is changing the facades again. No full design refreshes in sight for a single vehicle produced by Elon's car company. How about that nearly 15-year-old flagship Model S? Neat!
Based on their other comment, I believe it was not a joke

Is that a solid roof without glass?
Then it was indeed a very stupid comment
Correct, cheaper to build.
Head and taillights from m3 on cheaper model?
I thought so, or at least something similar, the headlights seem different compared to current model y
Still waiting for the Y L 😩
Sure looks like a glass roof. More likely the YXL.
MYP
What the hell am I looking at?
Length looks to be the same, so not Y L.
No the wheels are aero wheels
I don’t know how many times I’ve got into my 100 degree hot box of a car wishing I had a regular roof. (Yes I know about remote climate cooling, I forget to do it like half the time)
Why not get a sunshade for the glass roof for like $40
What do you mean by that? How can you tell it is a non-glass roof? The light reflection looks exactly the same on the windshield and the roof. What do I need to look for to see it?
Wouldn't that make it more costly to make (because you can share less parts)? How would shortening make it cheaper?
Steel or aluminum?
And much better for the people inside it.
Ceramic tint does wonders.
I love being able to look up though. I wish it had an electrochromic roof like the rivian, but even darker when it's tinted.
Or is it just cold?
I’ve not noticed a meaningful difference between my m3 and a solid roof car. 90% of the heat comes through the windscreen imo. Covering it does most of the job in the summer, except when there is significant portion of sun coming in from either side in the evening. Pretty small fraction seems to get through the roof…
That depends. Initially it could / would cost more due to less commonality in the parts but it could eventually pay out in the saved materials. But, if this is the case, I would believe that they are able to utilize mostly the same parts, for example do the castings with just some "blocks" in the casting, so that it is essentially same tool for both. But from this picture alone, I find it hard to believe.
You can set up an automation from your phone. If you have fixed timing for getting into your car Like evening 5pm, or afternoon 1pm or morning 9am you can simply set an automation that if the local temps is above “X” degrees cool the car. YouTube and ChatGPT can help you further with detailed instructions. Know a friend who does it and he doesn’t have to worry about cooling his car ever.
My guess is that it’s the same lights without the center part of the light bar
Dude where is the Roadster!?!?!?
