Model 3 Feedback

PartyEconomics4733 | 2025-07-07 23:37 | 93 views

I have a 2025 model 3, and overall I love this car. It is the best car I’ve ever had by a lot. Just wanted to share a few things that I would fix/improve 1. Sometimes the left and right turn buttons get stuck. I just can’t press them down at all and I have to wait a bit before they are pressable again. Very odd and annoying but doesn’t happen often 2. The charge port often takes multiple presses before it opens and if its plugged in takes multiple presses to unlock the charger cable. I’ll sometimes press the unlock button 2-4 times and go to unplug the charger and it’s still not unlocked this should be fixed asap 3. The sound that plays when the light turns from red to green is not always reliable. There are times when I’m in a left turn lane, the go straight light turns green but the left turn light is still red. However the sound still plays which is incorrect. Hopefully there is some way to make this more accurate and take into account which lane you’re in 4. Since I’ve had the car it has only rerouted me once which saved over ten minutes and that was great. Now of course it is possible that this opportunity has never come up before or since, but maybe there were other chances to save some time and the navigation didn’t reroute me. I don’t know for sure if that was ever the case so this one is dependant on the situation 5. When using FSD, the car should actually go to the top speed that you set. My max is set to 85 but the car will not go above 79/80 even if there is a lot of space in front of me, so i have to keep pressing the accelerator which is annoying 6. Add an option for pin to drive on the app. This would be useful in case you don’t want people who are in your car to see what your pin is. If I can do it on my phone I can hide my pin from other people.

For number 6, there is a remote start button on your phone. I think this will override the pin to drive…. I think…

WrongdoerIll5187 2025-07-08 01:26

My steering wheel early in the driving experience will sometimes creak loudly? Is that something I should call in for service? But yeah best car I've ever owned by far.

theseshion 2025-07-08 01:47

2. Plugged in: After you click the charge handle while it’s plugged in, it takes some time for the unlock to be ready. This is indicated by the colors going from green/dark blue to light blue. Once it’s light blue you are good to pull on the handle. Repeat clicks of the handle without waiting for the light blue color would result in the struggles you mentioned Opening charge port: if the car has been sleeping, and you point the charge cable at it, you need to give it a few seconds for the car to wake (don’t remember if the contractors need to close -> hv connects) before the charge port will open If these resolve your issues, in a short while you’ll develop “muscle memory” and won’t notice this as an issue anymore

PartyEconomics4733 2025-07-08 02:04

I use this setting already, I have it set to save 5 min. It probably just nevers finds a faster route I would guess

PartyEconomics4733 2025-07-08 02:05

Ok, if i have another issue that comes up ill probably schedule service and get this checked out

word-dragon 2025-07-08 02:08

One #1, I’ve noticed that myself, though when it’s happened, my guess was I was pressing the left side of the buttons and they were unresponsive there. Reading your description, I guess it could be timing. Have to play with it awhile. On #4, in nearly 6 years with two M3’s, it’s never changed the route mid trip, but it has often sent me a different way than usual from the start, and, as far as I can verify, it’s always been right - certainly was the couple of times I foolishly ignored its advice! On #5, I think - could be wrong, but remember reading this somewhere - the new target for speed is to go with prevailing traffic speed (whatever that means) without ever exceeding your max. So if the traffic is moving along at 72, it’s not going to start weaving in and out to reach 85 (or whatever your max actually is). I have a theory - no real evidence! - that FSD (supervised), FSD (robotaxi), and FSD (unsupervised delivery) are all basically the same FSD, and with robotaxi going live last month, they’ve made the FSD more cautious for a time.

KvasShmas 2025-07-08 02:08

Works for me every time. Apple Watch will do it as well

PartyEconomics4733 2025-07-08 02:10

I just tried it, did not work for me it still requires pin

udee79 2025-07-08 02:13

I have a 25 model 3 dual motor. It’s the best car I have ever owned but I will add to your list: No AM radio. Terrible for baseball fans No blinker stalk, I am too old to relearn this. Cup holders are bad you have to force the cups in and out No Satellite radio, fake cell tower radio is not a good substitute Why does the charger need to be locked at all? Maybe there’s a good reason if someone wants to enlighten me. I wish the charge port was on the front. then the charge cable isn’t laying all over the garage floor. Just put a button on the glove box Edited for format

Errand_Wolfe_ 2025-07-08 02:21

As others have said, #1 is not normal and should be fixed by warranty. #2 sounds like user error, it sounds like maybe you are unlocking the charge port with the touchscreen? It may be re-locking by the time you get out and to the port. Otherwise just hold the button on the cable down until the light turns white/light blue, it may take a moment as the charging stops. Same with opening the charge port, just make sure your car is unlocked and press the same button on the cable while holding it right next to the charge port, should open right up. #4 check your nav settings, there is an option for when to reroute you. I am pretty sure that the car will not notify you if the route has changed, so maybe it is happening and you aren't noticing?

gorgeousphatseal 2025-07-08 02:21

I hate how much it drinks battery. The performance edition

edchikel1 2025-07-08 02:29

Reboot the car.

DomApice 2025-07-08 02:32

Number one is not a defect. If you rest your finger on the capacitive buttons they shut off. Don’t rest your fingers on them and they won’t get stuck. Dumb yes but true.

edchikel1 2025-07-08 02:33

Do you get up to 200 miles normal usage?

spennnyy 2025-07-08 02:45

For 1, it could be due to resting your thumb on the button, which causes it to ignore presses for some time. Although I think Tesla added a screen pop-up notification to warn users about this in a recent update. If not, probably worth a service visit.

gorgeousphatseal 2025-07-08 02:51

No clue I never look at miles just battery it instantly zaps away upon use

Quick_Rest 2025-07-08 03:02

People stealing charging cables/sessions is a very real issue. Not to mention, there were numerous reports of people just unplugging EVs from charging (mostly J1772 with or without adapters), just because.

ta9 2025-07-08 03:13

The charger only energizes the cable when the adapter is locked. Without this, pulling the cable while the car is charging will create an arc which can damage the connectors, and also risks that someone could touch the connectors between being disconnected and the charger or car realizing it's been disconnected.

popornrm 2025-07-08 03:15

Drive spirited in an ICE vehicle and it’ll chug gasoline as well. Spirited driving and performance vehicles always cost you. That’s the trade off

Omacrontron 2025-07-08 03:32

5. There are 3 settings for FSD (chill, normal and hurry). MAX is not the speed at which it will stay but the speed it won’t go over under any circumstance. There is also setting to change for how much it’ll go over the speed limit. Edit: It’s not called “normal” it’s called “Standard”.

Darkmight 2025-07-08 05:58

The real problem is that the time save is a fixed amount instead of being relative. Saving 4 min on a 10 min drive is desirable and you'd want it to re-route, while saving 4 min on a 4 hour drive is pretty irrelevant.

MisterBumpingston 2025-07-08 06:14

3. The traffic light detection of this feature is not nuanced so it doesn’t understand your context and doesn’t recognise arrows. It’s very simple. 4. You can modify the time saving threshold down to 1 minute, I think. Unsure of how often it refreshes the route and traffic, but it doesn’t let you know when it reroutes you unlike other map apps.

goldenhornet 2025-07-08 08:17

The indicator buttons on my 2025 Model 3 are not capacitive, they are actual clicky buttons. And I have the same problem with the right indicator button, sometimes it just won't press down, like it's jammed somehow.

thePZ 2025-07-08 10:14

6 - you can probably either use the ‘Remote Start’ button in the ‘Controls’ section of the mobile app or disable Pin to Drive in the ‘Security’ section of the mobile app and re-enable it when in drive

OKLakeGoer 2025-07-08 12:11

#5 - If you revert back from the FSD stack to the 'middle' autopilot option you can do exactly what you want. I've found when travelling distance (eg highway/interstate) this is the ideal because FSD on 80mph speed limit roads just doesn't cut it. On a completely open road and I'll set speed to 85, it'll suddenly slow down to 76.. speed up to 80... slow back down...

PartyEconomics4733 2025-07-08 12:22

This is a good idea thanks, I still hope they add what i said but for now i will use your suggestion when i need it

BluePhire 2025-07-08 13:06

FSD didn't use to do this. They greatly improved in within the last year, but in the improvement, this terrible defect was added. I get if the robot isn't comfortable doing 85mph, but on a 4 lane highway with no cars and lots of vision, it should be. Plus, it shouldn't be slowing down/speeding up, like you said, when there are no cars in front. It should at least maintain a speed it is comfortable with like 70mph.

Pentosin 2025-07-08 13:08

Its even worse in ice vehicles.

Savings-Umpire-2245 2025-07-08 13:09

7.) Autoshift works well 99 out of 100 times. The problem is, you'll start trusting too much, and it'll shift into reverse while you an inch away from a pole. They do state it's a beta feature, so I guess we'll let that slide and be more cautious for now.

Dr_Pippin 2025-07-08 14:01

> this terrible defect Terrible defect is such an accurate description for this speed behavior. Without a doubt, it is the single most aggravating aspect of driving my car. And it makes me use FSD far less than I would otherwise.

kellogg76 2025-07-08 14:08

I have the same issues opening the charge door right after parking, so the car (2018 3LR) is definitely not asleep. Sometimes it opens first time I press the charger button, often I have to push the charge door to get it to open.

DomApice 2025-07-08 14:19

Those are capacitive buttons. Keep your fingers off the buttons and see if that stops deactivating them. I’m speaking from experience here because I initially had the same exact problem, realized it wasn’t a defect but a software feature.

mustbench3plates 2025-07-08 14:55

For 2, try holding the button on the charger. Had a Model S which didn't easily respond to a single click and adopting the habit of just holding the button until it responds has never failed me.

Ljhughes8 2025-07-08 16:02

I think I just read with the new update you need the pin.

udee79 2025-07-08 16:58

Maybe it's needed for Level 3 charging. For level 2 I don't think it should be necessary. My last EV could not do level 3 so maybe that's why it didnt lock.

Desperate_Star7876 2025-07-08 17:14

You can hold the mic button down and say "open butthole" Charge port will open and you don't have to fiddle.. with the but hole

popornrm 2025-07-08 18:11

It’s not. Gearing from transmissions provides an advantage. Still best to option to drive an EV for many other reasons but as far as pure energy usage per set distance, the an engine and transmission will use less than an EV, all other things being the same.

ste1n 2025-07-08 18:21

Mine does the same. I think it comes from the trim piece on the bottom of the steering wheel. When I push that plastic piece it creaks.

goldenhornet 2025-07-08 18:57

Well that sucks even more then. The sooner they retro-fit the stalks from the Model Y into the 3 the better. I don't mind swiping the screen for the gear selection, but the steering wheel indicator buttons are frustratingly awkward to use, especially mid-roundabout.

WrongdoerIll5187 2025-07-08 20:05

Nah it sounds deeper than that to my ear anyway, bottom of the steering column maybe

ArrogantSquirrelz 2025-07-08 20:36

5 has me HEATED. I keep turning off FSD because of this. GIVE ME BASIC CRUISE CONTROL. This version of FSD is by far the best but good lord I cannot stand it deciding I suddenly need to just cruise at 72 when I have it set to 80. 2-4 have just always been like that, unfortunately. I don't think 2 is a big deal, just slightly annoying. #3 will probably just get better over time, but it's always done that for me. #4 just seems hit or miss for me as well.

ArrogantSquirrelz 2025-07-08 20:42

While you're technically correct, that is not a solution to the complaint. We (I'm joining him in this crusade) just want to be able to say "go this speed" while still using the most recent FSD. Cruise control, FSD or not. It will just decide to go 8 mph below my max speed I have set, because it feels like it.

Omacrontron 2025-07-08 21:15

You have FSD set to normal and it’ll still drop below the speed limit?

ArrogantSquirrelz 2025-07-08 21:24

There is no "normal".

Omacrontron 2025-07-08 21:25

Yes there is, there are 3 FSD setting I specified in my original comment. Chill, Normal and Hurry. My bad it’s called Standard*

ArrogantSquirrelz 2025-07-08 22:04

No it's set to hurry.

ArrogantSquirrelz 2025-07-08 23:02

Yeah I have it set to hurry. I'll have it set to 80 max, it'll go 80 if someone behind me is on my ass, but as soon as that isn't the case it drops down to like 72 and it drives me INSANE.

Teslaaforever 2025-07-08 23:34

3 that usually when you don't have FSD as it uses a different stack of software

Present-Ad-9598 2025-07-09 01:30

2.) If port doesn’t open after clicking, I tap the bottom of the port and it *usually* opens immediately, because it wakes the car. 4.) I set my nav in settings to reroute if it saves >1 minute, I get reroutes all the time to avoid traffic jams on the highway with side streets and specific exits, it’s great

Present-Ad-9598 2025-07-09 01:31

No it’s different than that, I’m sure some gas cars have it too but you’d never hear it

nitrogenHail 2025-07-09 01:32

Yep, exactly the same with my 2018 model 3. I end up doing some kind of Konami code tap to try to persuade it to open, immediately after parking.

SnowMuted5200 2025-07-09 01:45

(not reading all of them) 1. turn buttons capacitive (been told), can't keep finger on them. Stopped doing that and have been fine.

Pentosin 2025-07-09 01:55

It takes a certain amount of energy no matter what the source is. A 66% efficient driveline will do that more efficient than a 33% efficient driveline.

Konowl 2025-07-09 02:05

Yup I unsubscribed because of this. Maddening.

Omacrontron 2025-07-09 02:47

Increase the max and then set the speed offset above 15% ect ect and see if that helps

hutacars 2025-07-09 05:55

Why? 4 minutes is 4 minutes in either scenario, right? Maybe there’s some psychology getting in the way of seeing these as equivalent.

laumbr 2025-07-09 06:27

6. just share from Google maps on your phone to Tesla app and it's sent to the car automatically.

Broad_Top463 2025-07-09 13:13

Honestly my only issue is getting flashbanged by the screen when i enter the car at night. Its really annoying. Feels like i have to treat my car like a shower where i have to wait for it to warm up before entering. Otherwise no complaints

PartyEconomics4733 2025-07-09 13:28

Why don’t you put the display on dark mode? That would fix the problem

Broad_Top463 2025-07-09 14:18

although i work at night perpetual night mode doesnt seem like my style

DomApice 2025-07-09 15:49

I got used to them and don’t mind either way now but mid round about yeah it’s not easy

Attention_Imaginary 2025-07-10 16:18

No AM radio was a big disappointment for me. I drive around the San Francisco bayarea and have always listened to a traffic and news radio station. It has a sister FM channel but AM signals go farther and have less interference. I got desparate and put an AM boombox radio in the car. The cacophony of electrical NOISE it received was amazing! I bought a 23 RWD and could have easily waited for the Highland but I too wanted the stalks. You can't teach an old dog new tricks? Not only that, someone else driving the car will feel more comfortable with the old fashion way of signaling...

udee79 2025-07-10 18:20

I finally coughed up for enhanced connectivity and I found out for $20 at [MLB.com](http://MLB.com) I can listen to All radio broadcasts for all games so now I have my baseball. Its Not quite as good because its an app on my my phone that I bluetooth or I have to use the Tesla browser.

udee79 2025-07-10 18:22

Im so pathetic with the signaling I do a bad job of the Tesla AND my other car! Reaching for stalks in the Tesla and trying to press buttons in the Kia!

VideoGameJumanji 2025-07-10 18:52

You really can’t imagine why the 250kW charge port needs to be locked when in and out of use?

VideoGameJumanji 2025-07-10 18:53

I don’t understand 6, are you driving someone back to a secret hideout? Lmfao

udee79 2025-07-10 18:59

Yes I thought that the Level 3 locking makes sense but 95% of my charging is level 2. Its just a PITA in that case. With all the compute power in the car just keep it unlocked for level 2 and 1. Also while I am at it the charging door shouldn't be electric, just another thing to break.

Barry41561 2025-07-10 22:53

Sorry to ask what is possibly a stupid question... But if you purchase a new 3 without FSD, does it have basic cruise control / lane keep assist? Much thanks.

VideoGameJumanji 2025-07-10 23:41

Why did you bold your entire response?

Errand_Wolfe_ 2025-07-11 01:57

it isn't bold on old reddit, idk

eried 2025-07-11 19:49

1) dont rest you hand on them 2) get this to service (if the open is unreliable), and hold long the button to disconnect

3com111 2025-07-11 22:30

I got a new wheel when I reported that to Tesla. Make a service request for sure. Mine got worse up until I got it replaced.

Groupkiller75 2025-07-12 17:45

Hey, just wanted to share my experience. I have a 2025 Model Y RWD LR. The worst thing about this car is the windshield wipers hands down. It’s so bad, I think they need to issue a recall and put on a proper rain sensor. Besides that, everything else is minor. I’ve had the turn signal stick about 3 times in 9000 miles. Build quality is OKAY, but still needs to improve. I already had service adjust my center console arm rest because of creaking. Zero issues with charging. FSD definitely has issues with lane changes and merging. Overall this car is a 10/10 and my wife and I are loving our purchase.

UnifyTheVoid 2025-07-12 18:22

> No blinker stalk, I am too old to relearn this. It was a stupid decision on Tesla's part and I hate it. It's really the only thing I hate about my Model 3. Tesla doesn't need to change things just for the sake of change. Sometimes the wheel is turned around and you need to put on your blinker, which leaves the buttons updside down. Its so dumb.

The_Sensation 2025-07-19 03:42

Went to the service center 3 times for the very same issue. 1) Told me I'm not pressing the turn signal buttons hard enough. 2) Went to a different service center because they were rude. "Nothing wrong with the car, next time make bug reports when they happen" 3) "Bug reports show nothing, I'll make a note on your profile of the issue." Still got the problem, no solution in sight. u/PartyEconomics4733 let me know how it goes if you do go get it checked out.

Magnus_Tesshu 2025-07-24 20:11

Why not 1 minute?

Magnus_Tesshu 2025-07-24 20:29

Hmm. I'd guess it's still a safety issue, but it's likely just hard to actually electrocute yourself fast enough

Magnus_Tesshu 2025-07-24 20:30

Hmm, personally I love that the charging door opens up automatically when you press the button on the charger. I think it's neat and worth it

Magnus_Tesshu 2025-07-24 20:31

Huh. I actually love it and won't buy a model Y until I can get an alternate steering wheel without the blinker. I think they should have decided to give you both options when you purchase though

udee79 2025-07-24 20:43

worth it until it breaks. Sure.

Magnus_Tesshu 2025-07-24 20:52

Does it actually ever break though? "I think that it shouldn't have any cover, what if at the gas station I do a suplex jump at my car and snap it off?"

udee79 2025-07-24 20:59

Yeah that's the same thing I said. You are already standing there to plug it in. so a spring loaded manual release is no more work.
