And removing autopilot from cyber trucks.
Every premium Tesla has been coming with 1 year FSD trial free (S, X, CT) for several months, is this news?
It says they're removing autopilot, which is hard to believe. A luxury vehicle with no adaptive cruise control is a complete nonstarter. The best explanation I can think of is they want more of the fleet running it for data gathering, and this is temporary. Also, their confidence that people will use it suggests they believe they're getting closer.
Can’t remove what was never there.
Damn. No autopilot? 🤦🏻♂️
Autopilot was never there to remove…
1 year? I only got 2 months
[removed]
This won’t sell them
They might as well just bundle it into the purchase price.
2 months? I received it for only 1 month
Wife got 1 year on her X purchased a few months ago. I remember seeing it listed in the documentation.
You guys are getting free trials?
It has adaptive cruise control... What they're not adding is Autosteer. So you get adaptive cruise control for free, or you can pay for FSD.
How much different from Autopilot is running FSD with no map destination? I guess that would still be annoying if you want to use the nav, but not have FSD navigate.
It's all about the data rn
Clarifying, I meant cruise control with lane-keeping assistance. This his standard across I believe every luxury car brand at this point, as well as Subaru, Toyota, etc.
They sell over triple what Rivian's pickup truck sells, but sure.
Desperate times, calls for desperate moves.
Tons in stock. Sales are far below what the company aimed for.
How many in stock? And how does that compare to the industry average? Do you know? Of course not. You just made that up lol. It's selling very well compared to its competitors.
>The best explanation I can think of is they want more of the fleet running it for data gathering, and this is temporary. I think you're partially correct. My guess is that, within the next year, the plan is to transition the entire fleet, all platforms, to a single software stack for AP and FSD. Essentially, AP will be a software limited version of FSD...but advance/improve alongside it. Tesla will scrape AP driving data. IMO? Win/win. Owners without FSD get a better baseline AP experience. Tesla gets exponentially more driving data, no longer needs to build out 2 sets of driver assist software with each new platform it releases, and a much lighter overall software stack to deal with.
People keep forgetting that CT has no autopilot LOL
I think that would be the ideal situation for everyone and is absolutely my hope as I think FSD is a far superior experience even just on the highway. Chop off the navigation, the ability to lane change on it's own outside of collision avoidance and set a 40mph minimum. Everyone wins.
The cautiously optimistic way of looking at things? This may be Tesla's first hint that they're moving away from AP as it's own software stack within the next year. Rather than having to develop 2 sets of code for each new platform... forever? AP becomes a feature capped version of FSD. Win/win for all involved. Tesla can use AP data to train FSD. They can also lighten the load on aging HW iterations by clearing out the entire set of code. Owners get a driver assist platform that evolves along-side FSD.
Aka, “we need ground truth data, and since we couldn’t get our customers to pay us for the privilege, we are forced to write off $1200 of our own profits in the hopes that our customers will see how fun it is to do supervised learning work for our researchers!”
It won’t murder you driving through a stop sign lol
Which is doing the murdering? I haven't used autopilot in a long time and didn't use it where there were stop signs.
No lane keep assist / auto steer is wild for a new, expensive vehicle.
True. But on the other hand, FSD is wildly more advanced than anything else available on any other vehicle.
But it’s not included. So after a year you’re left with no lane keep assist unless you pay a lot more.
I actually had to drive someone else’s car for a month through a screen!
Correct
Autopilot will start flashing at you to pay attention if it’s entering an intersection with a red light or stop sign but if you respond to the nag and still don’t take over, your car essentially says “oh we’re doing this? See you in Valhalla…”
Not true, because it doesn’t even handle stop signs. True base autopilot on my 2022 Model 3 is just auto steer + traffic aware cruise control. It doesn’t handle stop signs or lights or lane changes whatsoever. FSD is not more likely to “murder you driving through a stop sign” than base autopilot which would drive right through one.
[deleted]
You are misunderstanding- I’m saying autopilot will just let you drive through the intersection and not stop you
You are probably using FSD. The CT has never had AP.
After having a cybertruck for ten months and a Rivian for two months, I no longer consider the cybertruck a “luxury vehicle.”
Tons of stock based on your reddit feed? The "source" was this site: https://tesla-info.com/blog/inventory-stats-regional/US?q=1 "Results are currently suspended while we make changes to our code."
I hope you're right, but I'm cynical enough to believe future Teslas will have no lane keep assist unless you pay buku bucks for FSD. The pricing still makes no sense though. FSD is still an $8,000 option. I have to wonder what the Tesla bean counters are thinking with that price. Uptake rate of that feature would be 1000x higher if they reduced the price to $2k or something.
TACC?
Give me numbers. How much Cybertruck inventory is there right now, and how much inventory is there for other pickup trucks? Numbers. I want real numbers. I suspect you haven't even tried to find both of these numbers before coming to your conclusion, and you won't provide these numbers.
lol, do you really think there's a single public database of every dealership's pickup truck inventory country wide? What conclusion did I come to? You're responding to the wrong person.
More than 20,000 available of just the 2025 GMC Sierra Inventory 2,000 miles from New York AND from California. https://www.gmc.com/view-inventory/sierra-1500#?radius=2000&years=2025&makes=GMC&filterconfigkey=GMC-2025-Sierra-1500&models=Sierra%201500&sortby=bestMatch:desc,distance:asc,netPrice:asc&requestedPostalcode=07008&postalcode=07008&customSearchRadius=touched
You're right. I thought you replied to me, but you didn't. It seems you actually agree with me lol. My bad.
Based on this: [Cybertruck inventory increase](https://electrek.co/2025/05/05/tesla-cybertruck-inventory-skyrockets-to-record-high/)
It finally got FSD in September, but I was under the impression that it still doesn't have Autopilot or Advanced Autopilot. Is that not true?
Cybertruck is a luxury vehicle due to cost and technology. There are, of course, more luxurious vehicles, but this is still a luxury truck.
I own FSD and don’t use it because i don’t want to supervise lane changes. Can you turn off lane changes completely on a cybertruck?
Yeah I fell for that too lol. Don’t get me wrong, loved a lot about that truck, but Rivian is same price and far more luxury in terms of quality, finish, two screens, and more
EAP is the killer feature for Teslas, IMO. I don't think they'd remove that, and it costs them nothing too...
I don’t think so. You can change how often it happens. Does cybertruck fall back to autopilot if you take yourself off the FSD beta?
I still think it depends. Driving dynamics are head and shoulders better in the Cybertruck. The suspension is more refined, the Rivian suspension is clunky and randomly harsh and pogos around when you go over bumps. Cybertruck is quieter inside, better sound system, a LOT more room in the cabin and bed, higher quality tonneau, better charging curve and efficiency. But yes, Rivian has better finishing materials and two screens if that’s all you care to call luxury.
Sorry but you’re wrong about everything except cybertruck being roomier inside. The Rivian is a far more superior ride in terms of suspension. Your tonneau cover comparison is true for V1 but their V2 cover just came out and it’s quieter and better than cybertruck. Charging differences are unnoticeable. The OneDrive experience that feels more luxury and that I miss is the steer by wire. But it’s not enough to make it feel more luxury than Rivian. Just more utility.
So does Eyesight’s lane centering system on my 2024 Subaru Outback
Really doubt that is going to be enough to make a dent in the over 10,000 cybertrucks waiting to be sold. https://insideevs.com/news/758619/tesla-cybertruck-quarter-worth-inventory/ But Tesla needs to do something. Also with the new Model Ys. There is over 100 now on our Tesla overflow lot. They need to do a 0% for 6 years or something like that to start to get them to move. I think heavy discounts would be better then slowing down production. But I guess that will need to happen if heavy discounts do not work.
If talking about the CT there are over 10,000 waiting to be sold. https://insideevs.com/news/758619/tesla-cybertruck-quarter-worth-inventory/
Over 10,000 https://insideevs.com/news/758619/tesla-cybertruck-quarter-worth-inventory/
My guess for this is that the old Autopilot stack (which is from 2016/2017) can't handle steer-by-wire but they're not ready to update Autopilot to use a stripped down version of the FSD stack yet. The 1 year FSD trial may just be to give them enough time to get that work done.
if they made the fsd $100 subscription count towards the purchase price, I would do it.
Questionable source, but sure. Now how much inventory of other pickup trucks is there?
Again, questionable source, but sure. Now answer the second question.
I don’t think the word luxury means what you think it means
Tesla calls its speed adaptive cruise control “autopilot” in the cybertruck, but it’s still missing the auto steering available in the rest of the models.
Lol dude doesn't even know his own car 😂
That article literally references the website I linked that pulled their data, did you even read it?
Your prior comment made no sense by itself. Neither does your point that there's no demand issue. Have a good one.
Apparently reading really is difficult for you. The source of the information you claimed has literally pulled the data from their website, because they know it’s not accurate. I linked to the exact same source found in your article. Click on it, see the lack of data. Not hard.
You are assuming they pulled data because it is wildly inaccurate because that in turn fits your opinion that Tesla doesn't have a CT-sales issue. Answer me this then: why has Tesla lowered CT prices multiple times and why are they now offering FSD for an extended period of time for free, if not to attract customers? Tesla has sales issues worldwide and the cause starts with Elo and ends in ump
It is not just the insane amount of Cybertrucks piling up. It is things like the brand new referesh Y pilling up. The brand is total trash and going to be very hard to change that. Definitely the robot taxi service is DOA.
They need to release the 45k standard range one we were promised.
You can use Chill mode and it greatly reduces lane changes
Yeah surprise lane changes are somehow worse. No radar based cruise control is huge downgrade in functionality.
It does not have autopilot just the really weak sauce cruise control one and it’s not obvious at all how to even activate it (click the right scroll wheel).
You are assuming it’s accurate because it fits your opinion. We can do this all day. Why would they suddenly pull the data after it went viral? If you look at the chart it magically doubled overnight to 10,000 and you think that’s accurate?
That's what I thought. That's because Autopilot is old code that hasn't really been updated in at least 5 years, and it's not at all tuned to the CT chassis.
Ah, then we're actually saying the same thing. My bad.
Are they still working on AP? I don't think I've seen any change/improvement in it's behaviour since I bought my first Tesla in 2022.
Lol what are you talking about? Tesla's inventory is currently at 22 days of supply: https://digitalassets.tesla.com/tesla-contents/image/upload/IR/IR/TSLA-Q1-2025-Update.pdf The average in the car industry is around 70 days of supply: https://www.coxautoinc.com/market-insights/new-vehicle-inventory-april-2024/ So Tesla's inventory is actually way under what's normal for a car company. Nice try though.
Were you the school bully?

I am surprised that Tesla hasn't done that already on all models. FSD isn't something most drivers are going to pay a massive amount extra for, but it might convince them to buy a Tesla instead of a Ford.
And my axe!
I have mixed feelings - concerned about a vehicle that big and heavy with FSD.
Teslas worth is not in the cars, it's in FSD according to Elon. Basically giving it away would be devastating to this thinking.
