caleedubya 2025-04-27 00:45

Is this good or bad for resale value?

moustachauve 2025-04-27 00:53

No, used price crashed because no one wants them here

6M66 2025-04-27 01:13

Canada could remove tarrif for Chinese electric cars to fight back.

VideoGameJumanji 2025-04-27 01:15

Does Tesla give higher resale though under these new prices?

VideoGameJumanji 2025-04-27 01:18

No it seems the website is locking people into not being able to configure new cars and instead buy directly from their untariifed existing inventory for the moment

[deleted] 2025-04-27 01:20

[deleted]

D2LtN39Fp 2025-04-27 01:21

Why would they pay higher than market rate?

VideoGameJumanji 2025-04-27 01:27

Id imagine people would raise their prices and effectively raise market rate. If a new Y becomes unaffordable, then people will have no choice but to look at used cars first

D2LtN39Fp 2025-04-27 01:35

Gotcha. I think we’re under the same impression then that they are paying market rate but you’re asking if tariffs increased market rate. Presumably so. But the crash in demand anecdotally sounds bigger but I can’t confirm that and won’t assume it’s true based on anecdotes here.

elysiansaurus 2025-04-27 01:39

That model was removed months ago. They only offered LR AWD and Performance.

elysiansaurus 2025-04-27 01:41

When your sales are tanking the secret to success is to /checks notes. Raise the prices.

yhsong1116 2025-04-27 01:52

Lol people keep saying it but resale value is still high I would like some cheap used Tesla

yhsong1116 2025-04-27 01:53

Then we would get Shanghai built Ys for cheap again

DrCalFun 2025-04-27 01:55

Win win

Jeffryyyy 2025-04-27 02:13

We’re talking reality, not internet world

j_ona 2025-04-27 02:57

Appreciate this post

moustachauve 2025-04-27 03:07

You can get used model 3 rwd for around 20k Canadian

TooMuchTaurine 2025-04-27 03:12

You can get a used BMW 3 series for 20k also. What is the point?

CallMePyro 2025-04-27 03:14

Aren’t those Shanghai built Ys getting outsold 10:1 to BYD? I doubt the return to 6 month ago pricing would be sufficient to compete… I don’t think we want that.

yhsong1116 2025-04-27 03:16

I cannot speak for our market In china in the segment that model Y competes model Y outsells byd. But byd has cheaper models and is able to outsell Tesla in total EVs/hybrids

AngryCanadian 2025-04-27 03:23

I don’t want an old uber car

CallMePyro 2025-04-27 03:27

I see. I’m getting heavy downvotes, do you know why? Would be happy to address concerns that voters have w

yhsong1116 2025-04-27 03:29

Not sure. It wasn’t me lol

LouBrown 2025-04-27 05:05

I don't think selling at a loss due to new tariffs is a wise solution to the problem, either, though.

SufficientBee 2025-04-27 05:30

Lmao may as well stop selling here.

jdwarwick 2025-04-27 05:54

These tariffs are charged by Canada, not the US.

6M66 2025-04-27 06:06

It's retaliation.

Mackesanz 2025-04-27 06:07

Not exactly. SR was replaced a while ago by LR RWD. This one is now gone with the tarif increases but was on the market before then.

Ok_Power1067 2025-04-27 06:55

Time for Canadian to create their own EV brand or remove the tariffs on Chinese EVs

whalechasin 2025-04-27 07:10

or a used Porsche for $5k

CaliSummerDream 2025-04-27 07:43

Thanks for sharing this! What segment does the Model Y compete in in China?

damonlebeouf 2025-04-27 07:58

that’s so extremely vague. by that standard i’m sure you can get a used model 3 rwd for 5k.

moustachauve 2025-04-27 08:01

I meant there are tons of 3-4 years old model 3 for that price. Without too much mileage too. Most of them are in that price range.

danthemanwriter 2025-04-27 08:53

If the increase is due to tariffs, wouldn't the higher prices apply for all imported cars? (Which I would assume applies to all electric cars being sold in Canada).

Joatboy 2025-04-27 10:14

Hmm... Seems like if they had diverse models at various price points, including some cheaper models, that would have been a winning strategy. Oh well, who would have known?

Joatboy 2025-04-27 10:14

Sounds like their strategy for the Model S &X lol

Robert72 2025-04-27 10:43

I love my 21 Model Y. Was planning to buy a new Performance when it gets released. But no way can I justify that with the new tarriff prices. Tesla will lose a lot of the Canadian market with no subsidies and these crazy prices

Vassago81 2025-04-27 11:48

Canada have 100% import tariffs on chinese car, so can't buy them from China anymore, and 25% tariffs on US cars, raising the price. We really shout ourselves in the foot imposing those.

The1TwoThree 2025-04-27 13:22

We really don’t have a choice but to retaliate. I think the best way forward is for Canada to align auto standard with the European Union.

The1TwoThree 2025-04-27 13:23

I think we have to align auto standards with the European Union. It should have been done already.

42nu 2025-04-27 13:46

Call me crazy, but I'm starting to think that there's a large, free market for used vehicles and every vehicle that exists is within a few percent of value of comparable vehicles (mileage, features, etc). That's probly crazy talk though.

[deleted] 2025-04-27 13:53

just like Sony and probably many others that are increasing the price for everyone else in order to keep the price low for the US market

Krushaaa 2025-04-27 14:06

Hi - Europe has some car makers you can buy from.

Redebo 2025-04-27 14:43

Voters dont have “concerns”. They either recognize what you type as “going along with how they think and see the world” or they downvote.

CallMePyro 2025-04-27 16:12

Ah. So you think that people believe in wrong?

[deleted] 2025-04-27 16:38

[deleted]

redkulat 2025-04-27 16:39

Only applies to imported US made vehicles. Anything from Europe will be exempt

Equivalent-Chart248 2025-04-27 17:06

literally not true

Canuckle777 2025-04-27 17:28

I bought the model y refresh, no buyers regret, i love this car so much!

_casshern_ 2025-04-27 17:57

Me too, but if someone is willing to give me 21% more for it then sure 😅

Vassago81 2025-04-27 18:10

We had the choice not to put 100% tariff on EV from china instead of licking the US butthole and following everything they do.

Canuckle777 2025-04-27 19:22

Agree!

VideoGameJumanji 2025-04-27 21:07

You are just lying out of your ass, this is auto trader and one of the cheapest i see is a 5 year old M3 with 130,000 km on it lmfao for 25k https://www.autotrader.ca/cars/?rcp=0&rcs=0&prx=100&hprc=True&wcp=True&sts=New-Used&inMarket=basicSearch&mdl=Model+3&make=Tesla&loc=V6H+1H8 Show me one listing of a 2022 Model 3 with low mileage boss

VideoGameJumanji 2025-04-27 21:09

I checked auto trader one of the cheapest model 3 is 5 years old and with 130,000km on it for 25k, he has no idea what he’s talking about

VideoGameJumanji 2025-04-27 21:10

This of categorically bullshit, you didn’t even try double checking before stating that

bosh911 2025-04-27 22:34

Tesla will not sell 1 car at those prices. Even is pro-tesla group chat ppl are staying and the sideline

Vegetable-Orchid1789 2025-04-27 23:17

Yeah, This should help, lol

ddshd 2025-04-27 23:20

They aren’t increasing prices (this time) for more profits. This is to handle the additional tariffs.

ddshd 2025-04-27 23:21

Which European manufacturer has affordable EVs in the similar price range of Teslas (3, Y) before tariffs?

onespiker 2025-04-28 00:11

Yes

CallMePyro 2025-04-28 01:18

Ah. Which part do they think I'm wrong about?

RichieJ86 2025-04-28 05:00

I'm willing to bet my bottom dollar the used market will surge due to this decision. As much as we'd like to believe otherwise...

rainer_d 2025-04-28 05:27

Tesla. Oh wait…

rainer_d 2025-04-28 05:27

They could import Model Y from Germany…

GeneralTaoFeces 2025-04-28 07:57

how do you feel if because of the Tariffs, Canada allows BYD’s into the market? I used to love Teslas, but now they’re 2-3x in price, at a fraction of the build quality/comfort.

shaneucf 2025-04-28 08:02

It'll be a suicide to all the auto related industries in Canada as well.  But at the same time, keeping the Chinese out only makes local companies to live in a bubble and not innovating

jergentehdutchman 2025-04-28 13:03

Wow another reason to not buy one…

Canuckle777 2025-04-28 13:31

You haven't been in the model Y refresh if you are talking about build quality or comfort. But anyways, maybe BYD comes to canada, good for them. Competition is great. Those cars aren't for me though.

GeneralTaoFeces 2025-04-28 15:33

is it better than the S Plaid?

Canuckle777 2025-04-28 15:49

Not as fast I hear...

ItsMeTheJinx 2025-04-28 16:24

Not sure why Canada would still want to buy a Tesla

[deleted] 2025-04-28 17:20

[deleted]

Tookmyprawns 2025-04-28 17:59

I am saying people would rather buy new so they don’t have to worry as much about expensive repairs. I’m not saying the warrant is bad. I’m saying the opposite.

Correct-Willingness2 2025-04-28 18:23

Will this happen in the US?

spoollyger 2025-04-28 20:01

Yeah, just get a Model Y from Germany xD

spoollyger 2025-04-28 20:02

Canada put the tariff on US imports? Price increase has nothing to do with Tesla other than them following the tariffs.

Powerful-Ad3374 2025-04-28 20:53

Canada makes cars though right? Tariffs are to protect local industry and encourage new companies to build local. Used correctly they are good for local industry. Wielded by a madman they are destructive

elchurnerista 2025-04-29 05:55

and who's going to buy it? 😂

fitm3 2025-04-29 13:22

I didn’t think anyone in Canada was buying American now anyways.

Omniwar 2025-04-29 16:24

BMW, VW, Fiat are the only ones that come to mind. Mercedes not that far off.

SwimmerCivil2517 2025-04-29 23:25

80k for a model 3 LMAO

SwimmerCivil2517 2025-04-29 23:27

if local industries can't compete in a global economy they should close - period.

skyypirate 2025-04-30 11:00

It's not just a particular segment. The best selling car in Q1 2025 in China is still the Model Y. Yes, BYD entire marque is outselling Tesla's, but a majority of those are cheap BYD like the Seagull.

LetsRollTheBleLine 2025-04-30 17:48

Ouch! Glad I got mine in 2024

Big_Advantage3907 2025-05-01 07:34

Why about getting model y and 3 from Giga Berlin with no Tariffs ?

[deleted] 2025-05-01 09:53

[removed]

solidasrocky 2025-05-01 19:55

It’s a lie. The tarrif increase is for items coming to the USA. If it’s going from USA to Canada it is Canadian Tarrifs. Talk to your new PM about that

Futfutfutfreestylo 2025-05-02 03:26

Now watch our insurances cost...

Ok_Database_622 2025-05-03 21:35

If you purchase at these new prices and tariffs go away…that is a big hit on depreciation

Hammond12789 2025-05-10 08:51

Vattaa 2025-05-12 09:36

They stopped selling the S and X in the UK a while ago now, the Cybertruck would never meet UK/EU vehicle safety standards without some heavy modification. They are a 2 car company here now.

Choyo 2025-05-18 06:32

Keep in mind many countries forbid selling at a loss anyway.

Jon-Snow32 2025-05-18 20:23

... because Tesla's are good cars and the only brand that has a free autopilot that actually works on all roads. The FSD package is next level again and is basically autonomous now .. and no other brand even offers anything like it. My issue is Musk/Trump .. not the cars.

echo_jey 2025-06-08 15:52

Do we expect the tariff will be dropped and price will be down anytime in the future? Until then I’ll hang tight on 2008 Honda civic. Eagerly looking to buy model Y ( latest release) but 15k price increase no way.

darkvaider123 2025-06-24 14:52

Free autopilot? Does that come standard for new models now? Though you had to pay for it?

Kirakimo 2025-06-30 01:16

It's 11k on tesla canada site, what are you talking about?
