TIL that Homologation is the process of official approval or certification that a product, especially a vehicle, meets the technical and safety standards required for its use in a specific region or country, ensuring compliance with regulations
shit.. fsd in India.. with cows and stuff on the road.. must be some heavy upgrade to existing system :) trucks that breaks down in the middle of night just stops in the middle of the road with no warning light on..
There will very likely not be FSD in India. This article is about actually selling the cars first.
What I want is FSD neural net trained on indian driving. that sucker would be unstoppable.
I can't believe India has safety and environmental standards.
India might be a huge market if the final price is acceptable, has any Chinese EV maker started to sell there?
I don't know how current the videos I've seen are--and I'm sure many are extreme examples--but some of those uncontrolled intersections are wild. I'm amazed how few people are crashing into one another. When FSD can handle those situations like humans can, it will have truly arrived. One example from 10 years ago: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7aSkJCUDAes](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7aSkJCUDAes)
Tesla did what now?
Tesla is delaying her demise
I can see India FSD videos being its own sub genre. Would love to see an someone trying to navigate the craziness as the software evolves
It’s basically certification in the context of mass market vehicles
It would need a ring of turtle shells spinning around it.
Don't India and Pakistan have a grid problem? Every time I'm there they have scheduled load shedding. How do they plan on getting around that for future EV drivers?
During my last trip to Mumbai (this past December-January), I saw a couple BYD cars. There were tons of Tata EVs tho (a famous Indian company that happens to own Jaguar-Land Rover)
No idea about Pakistan, but load shedding is not an issue anymore in big Indian cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, etc.
That's good to hear.
This will surely help the stock price
Only with 100% import tax.
When Tesla starts training its FSD neural network in India....
In some ways these conditions are actually 'easier' for FSD. Where there aren't any actual traffic rules all FSD has to think about is: * Move forward * Don't hit anything * Go slowly around obstructions The really challenging stuff for FSD is learning all the specific driving rules (lights, signs, turn lanes, etc). The confusion of lots of vehicle and pedestrian activity is hard for us humans because we can't see and react to it all . . . but FSD can see and track everything without any real difficulty.
Tesla has almost zero debt and over 30B in cash on hand. They could handle a decade long sales crash and still be okay. It is an extremely strong business and balance sheet. With a ton of assets and IP.
indias market size is smaller than one china city
tsla has an incredible burn rate, they can not survive that long on a sales decline.
I don’t think the FSD will be even close to the US offering. In Europe we already are not even close with the activated features and the traffic here is very structured. US traffic is so simple it’s usually the first step and it’s also super easy to get it legal.
Definitely not India

It sounds like you might be calling me stupid for not already knowing this. I don't think it's a terribly common word, so I looked it up and thought I'd share what I learned. What else did you think I was doing with my post?
I had never heard this word before, it is not very common
A burn rate for R&D and expansion can be turned down if needed.

\+1 for amending your post and owning up, -1 for not making a pun with being confused about your logation/location.
India has emission standard?
Turning down R&D will eventually result in an even further reduction in sales... nobody wants to buy old tech.
Im shocked its for model 3 and y. Would assume its for the model q or model 2 depending on what the name will be. Cheap car with no ability to activate fsd until it has trained a year or two at least!
BYD and MG are the only Chinese EVs being sold. They are very smaller in number relative to local offerings from Tata and Mahindra.
Europe is just a regulatory problem. Look at the videos coming out of FSD China in the last week or two. It's very impressive. https://x.com/boolusilan/status/1902141882014298424 https://x.com/CharlesWBoy/status/1902016966229139755 https://x.com/boolusilan/status/1901526332158443624
And not, in fact, writing down names of guys you suspect of being gay, which we all thought it meant prior to reading the article.
Tesla has been cash positive since 2021. What are you people smoking? They can deploy 30 billion next quarter in R&D and still have & billion in cash.
India sold 4.3 million cars last year. China made 21 million for domestic consumption.
Bmw mini sold 15k units in India, it sold 715k in china. 2024 numbers.
Mini base variant costs $29k in China. Same costs $62k in India.
How much is the tesla gonna cost
Don't know. There is 110% import duty here, so you need to pay more in taxes than for the car. But government is making an exemption for EVs with a lot of conditions, so import duties can be reduced to 15%. Model 3 may cost between $46k (if Tesla does regional pricing well and satisfies all conditions enforced by government) to $80k.
Yah it's gonna be a small market at that price
Also Tesla doesn't have charging network, service network in India. It most likely won't have FSD too. Anyone with sense is not going to buy it here.
That’s interesting, thanks for sharing the links
Safety and emission standards in India? Thanks huge irony.
I wonder how well Tesla will compete in a market like India with current competition there
I don’t want this on my car so I’m refusing the update. Pause.
getting ready to sell cars in india
India is perfect for huge sales : Although India is the fifth largest economy in the world, the average salary in the country is INR 46,861 (USD 557.32) per month. At the same time, the average annual salary in India is INR 562,332 (USD 6,687.76)
India has safety and emission standards? that's news to me lol
