Friendly reminder that it doesn’t matter what Elon does or does not think here. The FBI believes it was intentional, and that’s what matters.

They’re really not, at least not in terms of the thermal stability of the batteries. Tesla is best-in-class for powertrain reliability.
Well the truck has cameras all over it. I’m sure they have or can get footage of the person driving, loading and walking away from the truck. The only real question is, what is stupidity or intentional.
Stop telling the truth, no one wants to believe in facts. /s

Hey pal, you just blow in from stupid town?
No it didn’t
[deleted]
inherently dangerous? Eh you okay bud? sounds like you've been consuming too much biased fear mongering media
EVs burn about 1/10th as often as gas cars do. Are you worried about gas cars catching on fire? I'm open to being corrected but I don't think a 3 Y or CT has ever experienced thermal runaway.
The battery
Yeah, and ICE engines that carry combustible fossil fuels and work by exploding them are safer?
[removed]
He definitely blows
Was the first one also due to an IED? Because I've seen plenty of ICE IEDs, if we're counting those
lol explosion had nothing to do with the battery.
Cameras, yes. Interior camera footage doesn’t leave the car, though they might make an exception in this case. The four sentry camera views are stored locally on a flash drive, and probably aren’t accessible over the air at this point. If the FBI finds the flash drive, I’m sure they’ll work with Tesla to extract anything on what’s left of it, but IMHO it’s really unlikely they’ve done that yet.

You haven't seen one spontaneously combust, this one had an explosive in it. You can see the fireworks in the video
I too base my conspiracy theories on feefees
I’d be surprised if Tesla doesn’t write to internal storage before it writes to the USB drive making it fully accessible to Tesla if the car has power and internet. It will use this for driver attention in an accident if someone claims FSD did something wrong etc. they probably don’t pull it without a reason, but my guess it’s there and accessible.
My subtle point was that I don’t think the CT has a functional electrical system at the moment, and it’s likely not accessible over the air.
Cabin camera is viewable to customers with premium connectivity while the vehicle is parked, I won’t speculate on what is recorded by Tesla for ‘diagnostic’ purposes, but to say the footage doesn’t leave the car simply isn’t true. I use it to monitor my dogs from my phone.
Stupid take.
Not believing a word he says is your own choice of course, but I think that's as bad as believing everything he says. If you go around telling people the truck spontaneously exploded but it was actually a car bomb that's.... Quite bad Hating Elon is fine but if you believe whatever you want despite evidence that's as bad as the other side
Seems the FBI agrees with Elon. Not the Tesla.
Cybertrucks may also have issues with dented battery cells that Tesla is replacing. So perhaps your statement should be rethought.
Plenty of Teslas have encountered thermal runaway after physical damage. It’s an inherent risk with damaged cells.
[You're an idiot.](https://x.com/nicksortor/status/1874610639823335781?s=19) This thing was packed to the gills with fireworks and gas cans. Investigators even referenced the strength of the vehicle for the explosion not causing more damage or injury in its surroundings. EVs are 10x less likely to catch on fire than gas cars, and EV fires propagate more slowly (leaving more time to escape). The explosion seen in the video is literally impossible with an EV battery.
It sends to mothership when car is in accident. I believe this mostly will trigger it
I don't believe that's true. Do you have any examples? https://optiwatt.com/blog/what-to-do-if-a-tesla-catches-fire The only thermal runaways in Teslas I'm aware of are from the very early model S. After that changed the pack design so one cell burning is much less likely to catch the next 500 people die annually in gas car fires, I doubt you're aware of those because they so rarely make the news. Any Tesla on fire is front page news regardless of the cause. This has affected people's perceptions
Thanks, I haven’t used that feature so I didn’t realize it existed.
If enough of the car is still functioning, it might send it. There’s no guarantee of what’s still working after an internal explosion and fire.
Lol "quick, erase the evidence!! We was right."
Ah fair point. If the issue stems from the battery (12 or HV), then you’re 100% correct. If the event only took place in the bed, then all recordings should be available.
You can even view it from your phone and save clips.
You think the battery caused firework type of explosions? Okay. This comment is exactly what the general population with 2 brain cells thinks.
The story that I’ve heard so far is that the dead person is the driver, and they’re not sure if it’s a man or woman. That suggests to me that the explosion and fire was pretty comprehensive and reached into the cab, where the computer are.
As much as I believe this to be a bomb, it makes me laugh that Elon has to clarify that it didn’t happen because it was an EV.
Oh wow, I hadn’t heard there was someone in the truck let alone dead in it. That might change my view from deliberate to accident. Still more information is needed though, can’t speculate to much without more.
Footage leaves the vehicle. Accessible by phone or cloud. Since the driver is dead, Tesla can track its previous route and owner.
Cloud storage for in and outside cameras. Vehicles send diagnostic info directly to Tesla.
My first thought with this title. Sure, but can anybody *else* confirm it?
When do the vehicles send diagnostic info to Tesla? In my experience (6 years with a Model 3), routine data gets sent at night (can see it in my network logs). I can’t see when data gets sent over LTE. In the case of an extraordinary event (say, an accident that pops the airbags), I’m sure the data gets sent immediately - but that could still take a minute or two. Whether an explosion inside a parked vehicle would trigger that, I have on idea. Whether there was any electricity available to send any data immediately after the explosion is another question that I have no answer to.
It’s painful people are that dumb to believe it’s caused by the battery 😕
CT saved lives today.
Only if the driver sets it up within a USB though right? Which I’m guessing for a terrorist they probably wouldn’t do?
We have a model 3 and a new SUV. Had an issue Tesla wanted to correct so they ran remote diagnostics and sent software update fix. Also, had to report and attack caught by my exterior camera. My phone was damaged, Tesla helped access footage for police. I forgot how to access my cloud storage. I don't feel they monitor car video but know they can access it as well as GPS and auto drive.
I’d imagine a lot of people jumped to that assumption, since we’re often told that batteries can spontaneously combust, such as with the Samsung phones a few years back. In this case, it seems like the Tesla actually kept the bomb contained, since the explosion wasn’t able to break through the truck bed sides, only upwards.
The news is reporting that they found fireworks, gas canisters, and mortar like explosives. Seems like a terrorist event. Ironically, the truck actually kept the explosion contained as it was not able to penetrate the sides, and only exploded upwards. The driver is believed to be dead.
Absolutely. They can access the car anytime they want, and access video footage. But they don’t do it for every car, every second of the day. Until that CT exploded, it was unremarkable and it’s unlikely Tesla was getting any data from it. If the explosion took out the electrical system, there would be no data for that vehicle until someone physically accessed it.
It is on the owner's cloud storage unless it was a rental.. But first they need to identify the owner. Tesla can do that from part # on anything left. If FBI wants, they will get it. I'm too tired right now to ralk tech.
Why oh why would anyone assume it exploded because it’s an EV? I wonder… https://preview.redd.it/0v4hgolz3iae1.jpeg?width=1320&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0e63b7fa818e4d3861609339517362818666679e
You did sound like you knew what you were talking about
And they wonder why nobody trusts them anymore
> Live Camera is end-to-end encrypted and cannot be accessed by us https://www.tesla.com/support/vehicle-safety-security-features They don't have access to cabin camera footage unless you explicitly choose to share it with them in your data sharing settings. By default, they can only access footage from the external cameras, which they use to train Autopilot/FSD.
Not the interior camera. Collection of that footage is disabled by default.
Sounds merely like a douche influencer going camping in the desert with plans to light off fireworks.
first time on reddit?
Where did he defend the EV part?
You realize your his target audience when he has to clarify this, right? How about you look at the screenshot another commenter gave, showing the deception of the main stream media, and despite how obvious the situation is, he still has to clarify for people like you. It's despicable to laugh about this situation. The fact that you do so shows how radicalised reddit has made you become. https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1133254_fires-are-less-frequent-in-teslas-and-other-evs-vs-gas-vehicles
Weird reminder? Elon is just confirming it wasn't the truck that spontaneously exploded. That has nothing to do with whether it was intentional or not.
That's what spreading misinformation about EV's will get you ...
It does not save anything unless something happens or someone presses save.. So its like the last 10 minutes of the drive that in normal circumstances will be on the USB - and then if sentry mode is active any activations made by it.. Normally not very useful for this.
I’m sure the suburban mom tuning in will follow up on this in a few days to find out the truth, and not overreact about EVs once they figure it out! /s
Oh, is Elon leading the criminal investigation on this case? Did be buy his way into the FBI too?
Yeah, there's no technical safeguard there with that wording. Tesla can easily flip a switch and upload the data. If there's a user setting to share, Tesla can access whatever they want, and the only thing keeping them from doing so is a pinky promise.
It wasn't internal, he had the stuff in the truck bed it looked like.
Video I saw shows a groom getting literally blown away, from 5 meters next to the car. This is likely the dead person.
Tesla also has access to the battery diagnostics.
How thick is the tin foil on your hat? This is a legitimate question, because Tesla get's shit on in the media CONSTANTLY, do you really think they'd want the shit storm by 'flipping a switch' to send themselves the private keys to nullify the end-to-end encryption? You gotta be super tin foil hat to believe that bs.
Interesting follow up: https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1874923549745627610
They confirmed today it was a active duty army soldier from Germany on leave smh
"All vehicle telemetry was positive at the time of the explosion." 🤦♂️ *nominal
