I wish they would make side mirror defrost an independent function

nmessina17 2024-10-05 15:51

The side mirror dimming

ken830 2024-10-05 15:54

What the heck is this about the side mirrors' tilting? They had this in 2012 when I ordered my first Tesla. You put the car in reverse, you adjust the mirrors, and then you hit SAVE to your profile. Fast forward to 2018 and I do the same thing in my brand new Model 3 Performance, and it doesn't work. The SAVE button comes up when I make mirror adjustments in reverse, but it doesn't actually save because the mirror position goes back to default positions the next time I put it in reverse. I filed a bug report, and tested it a few times after a few FW updates, but it never worked, so I got too lazy to test it anymore and just assumed that they would've fixed it years ago. But I guess it's not a bug fix now - it's a new feature...

ThatRocketSurgeon 2024-10-05 15:55

I live in the land of lifted trucks. Wish I could make the mirrors dim much earlier in the day than they do.

p3n9uins 2024-10-05 16:37

I had the same experience with my old S and then my subsequent teslas. I’m glad they’re bringing it back. The default tilt down is always too low for me

LurkerWithAnAccount 2024-10-05 16:52

My delivery person in 2017 showed me how to set my backup tilt angle on our S. Thank you for clarifying I’m not insane (at least about this feature…)

p3n9uins 2024-10-05 17:03

yeah! I was so disappointed when my 3 would revert back to stock tilt each time back when I got it in I think 2018. I re-set it like 3 times, thinking it not remembering the tilt was a software glitch, until I just gave up!

j3lunt 2024-10-05 17:28

Would be great to only have the passenger side mirror tilt down. I had this feature in my BMW and creates a much better experience IMO. I find myself ducking down to look through the driver side mirror when both mirrors tilt down.

daaagoat 2024-10-05 17:47

All I want is my phone to connect automatically with my M3 when I get in…

feurie 2024-10-05 17:50

Sounds like a weird thing happening with your phone.

Pandasroc24 2024-10-05 17:55

Same!

daaagoat 2024-10-05 17:55

My friend has Y and same thing is happening to him since the last update. It doesn’t automatically connect anymore.

Remixmark 2024-10-05 17:59

Try rebooting your screen. Worst case submit a ticket through your app.

[deleted] 2024-10-05 18:06

Just let me fold side mirrors when no one is in the car 😤

Snoo_90242 2024-10-05 18:10

Tesla does literally anything: Reddit: “if only….” “It would be great if…” “how about….”

SwayingTreeGT 2024-10-05 18:46

With so much of the vehicle being software controlled it should be no surprise that people want a deeper level of control from that software. Especially when adding some of these features would be nothing more than adding a few lines of lines of code and some graphic design.

JoeS830 2024-10-05 18:46

Totally. At least recognize when there's no curb on the left so the mirror stays up when I'm trying to merge into the road!

JoeS830 2024-10-05 18:47

You mean even while it's unlocked?

[deleted] 2024-10-05 18:49

Yeah forgot that part. Unlocked but folded for garage parking (no one tell me I can fold based on location I back up with my mirrors and no the camera is not nearly as good)

daaagoat 2024-10-05 19:01

Will give it a try. Thank you!

crasy8s 2024-10-05 19:01

I used to miss this feature but the side cameras end up serving that exact function with more visibility for me

mlw72z 2024-10-05 19:02

I always appreciate new features by do get frustrated when defects are introduced. My dashcam USB always fails unless I wake the car up with the app before opening the door. That never used to be an issue.

TheGladNomad 2024-10-05 19:03

You know the correct answer, you just can’t accept it. ;)

melonator11145 2024-10-05 19:14

Hopefully with this new feature you can set the tilt levels on the mirrors independently, so you could make the drivers mirrror tilt position not move from the un tilted position

Jakoneitor 2024-10-05 19:19

I assure you, even the smallest thing you can think of is not just “few lines of code” and “some graphic design”, specially when talking about embedded devices (hardware controlled by software, like a car serving the feature you’d like)

ken830 2024-10-05 19:19

This is more inconvenient for people that regularly park on the left side curb (or drivers' side, more generically). Because the default tilt is only on the passenger-side. Originally, the reverse subset of your profile allows adjustment of both mirrors. Maybe it even works for other settings like seat/wheel, but I never tried that on any of my cars. It's kind of like how they implemented the exit profile (which I never use) as just another profile where you can set almost anything. Not sure if that's still the implementation today, since I've never used or tested it since 10-11 years ago when it was first introduced..

SwayingTreeGT 2024-10-05 19:25

Within reason obviously. In my case, I want a fold mirror button on the parked screen. Tell me why this would be difficult to implement when the car already has a fold mirror button within a menu.

dellfanboy 2024-10-05 19:33

Isn’t that a setting already?

Blindbatts 2024-10-05 19:44

Yep it's been weird switching back and forth with my MDX where I can flip the mirror adjuster to left or right mirror to choose which one tilts down when in reverse, or leave in the middle to not tilt. And my MDX is a 2009.

Ok-Attention2882 2024-10-05 20:07

Never going to happen. Can't even heat the seats/steering wheel from the app without turning on the AC

dbarciela 2024-10-05 20:27

It's an all-or-nothing situation for the mirrors. I’d like to disable dimming for the side mirrors while keeping it on for the cabin mirror. With dimming enabled, I can’t see the curbs on my street at night. Ideally, I’d want a button to toggle it on or off while in reverse.

Curtnorth 2024-10-05 20:36

Give us legacy cruise control, speed-based only, with no camera involvement. This of us in the snow belt get "camera blocked" warnings far too often.

ac9116 2024-10-05 21:05

Or, because Tesla reasons, it should use the cameras to determine which side the curb is on and only tilt that side.

deep40000 2024-10-05 21:19

It's assuredly not, any sort of changes like that are probably really easy to implement thanks to their pipeline. I'd assume that all the code is not so hacked together that changing one line of code on the infotainment part somewhere will just break the car and make it drift in circles forever.

[deleted] 2024-10-05 21:21

I’ve accepted it as wrong :) nothing is as quick and seamless as lining up my mirror to back in.

thegreatestd 2024-10-05 21:38

I’m a bit confused? I have a 22 RWD and I adjusted my reverse side views day one… I adjusted them a few months ago because I drive a new way. Has this never been a feature?

j3lunt 2024-10-05 22:37

Habits are hard to break! I’ve slowly started using the cameras but first instinct is to look at mirrors.

Quick access to the GPS mute unmute button plz!!!! Should be on the top right of the Home Screen not hidden in two menus!

[deleted] 2024-10-06 01:56

Owned Teslas for 5 years now and still the rear camera disappears the instant you go forward Every other car has a slight timed or speed based delay so when I’m parking or manoeuvring at low speed you can still see, and sure I can manually bring up the camera But on a dozen other cars I haven’t had to

DanITman 2024-10-06 02:22

I agree. I would like one pull down on the right stalk to be FSD and one push up to be standard cruise.

Curtnorth 2024-10-06 03:46

In order to keep their safety claims, Tesla will never give us this option. It's a fool's gold wish to hope for an even.

enigmaunbound 2024-10-06 04:16

I wish thwt the mirrors would steer towards the bright light sources.

Tikus87 2024-10-06 06:08

You already can do this. The car saves 2 sets of mirror positions: one usual position, and the reversing position. Just shift into Reverse, keep your foot on the brake, adjust the wing mirrors to your preference, and save to your profile when prompted.

Subject_Entrance_747 2024-10-06 06:46

I don’t get it. Actually you can already set the angle of the rear mirrors. Just put the car into R and the set the angles of the mirrors. Put it in D and they’ll move upwards. Next time in R they’ll go down again. I don’t think that there is something new, but maybe I understood „tilt“ wrong.

j3lunt 2024-10-06 07:45

What?! Trying this tomorrow. Thanks for that info. 👍🏼👍🏼

popornrm 2024-10-06 08:46

Would be great to be able to pick when you want the mirror tilt. I don’t want them to tilt by default but if I need them then I should be able to hit a button to get them to tilt.

[deleted] 2024-10-06 10:14

When comes a update for the windshield wipers? It is disappointing that after all these years there is no single improvement

spectradawn77 2024-10-06 10:16

They have GPS fold mirrors. I want GPS trunk height. PLEASE! That to me is just adding another variable to the if statement 😝

DanITman 2024-10-06 11:05

I think it works this way on the rivian.

Expensive-Apricot459 2024-10-06 11:22

Why are you trying to merge onto the road in reverse?

JoeS830 2024-10-06 12:29

Backing up a bit to make room to get out.

Expensive-Apricot459 2024-10-06 12:32

The second you shift into drive, the mirrors come back up…

JoeS830 2024-10-06 12:34

Yup, I still find it annoying that I can't see what's coming while I do that move. And it serves no purpose on that side, so why not fix it?

Present-Ad-9598 2024-10-06 14:47

Holy shit are you serious??😳

j3lunt 2024-10-06 19:31

This did NOT work for me 😔 anyone else have any luck?

Tikus87 2024-10-06 20:18

That’s odd, I’ve done it on my car, although I was just making it tilt less, I still wanted a tilt just not as far as the default. Will check again tomorrow morning.

j3lunt 2024-10-06 21:29

Thanks!

It's super confusing because the "save" button highlights as if you made a change (because you have) but saving doesn't actually save. this particular setting. Because of that, I would think it's a bug, but now they are calling this "fix" a feature. LOL. You might be right about the controller, even though I though they only used the button/switch hardware from merc.

dognat 2024-10-07 02:00

I got aftermarket convex side mirrors and they solved this for me - the driver side mirror tilts down but I can still see the road in it. Helps with blind spots when changing lanes too!

hoang51 2024-10-07 18:27

For me, cameras are easier to use. I hardly use the mirrors anymore. I use to think driving with the cameras on weren't that useful. Now, it's a must. Easier to change lanes too as you can see more.

research-addict 2024-10-07 19:58

I hate liars

TheFlowChartKen 2024-10-07 20:14

Didn’t work for me either. I also checked the online manual and didn’t see anything about custom saving folding mirrors settings on backup. @tikus87 can you chime in? Maybe I’m doing something wrong.

Tikus87 2024-10-07 21:21

No I think you are right. I looked in the manual and it specifically said that this function didn’t work and would come in a software update. I thought it worked for me before, but I had done the setup months ago at delivery and never changed any mirror positions after that. That was also several software versions ago.

jaisalpatel 2024-10-08 11:08

This but toggling “Avoid Toll” 🥹

TingGreaterThanOC 2024-10-10 14:42

I like going to the planetarium.
