Tesla wants $800 for before warranty ending inspection.

isayx3 | 2026-03-13 20:30 | 31 views

I was quoted $500 via the app which was steep but I did agree to it. I bought my car down and expected the work to be done, but now the app has updated and says I need to approve the new estimate which is $800. This is Tesla in Riverside California. Keep in mind, nothing have been found or even looked at yet. This is just the price of the inspection.

Outrageous! Cancel it and schedule it with another SC.

DuckTalesLOL 2026-03-13 20:38

Inspections take a couple hours and Tesla charges anywhere between $200-$250 an hour so that initial estimate sounds right. You should ask them in the app why the price changed, not Reddit.

It took two weeks to get this appointment and my warranty expires in a few days. A little bit of poor planning on my part but I was out of the country earlier this month.

isayx3 2026-03-13 20:40

Yes, waiting for their reply.

FlyingMitten 2026-03-13 20:41

Inspection of/for what?

isayx3 2026-03-13 20:45

Basically a full inspection of what would be cover under warranty. If they don't find anything then I pay the cost. If they do find something they will fix it before my warranty ends in a few days. People usually do this before the warranty ends.

RoutinePresence7 2026-03-13 20:46

Just did mine for $165. Plenty of appointments in Orange County. It’ll be worth the drive if you really need it.

FlyingMitten 2026-03-13 20:46

I guess I learned something new. Never heard of anyone doing that.

Do you just go into the app and ask for an inspection? I probably will do the same when the end of my warranty is near. Is there an option for that? Or just a general inspection? Thanks.

RoutinePresence7 2026-03-13 21:00

Service > request service > other > then type in “My basic warranty is about to expire. Please do a full inspection of the vehicle, including checking the links” And then when you come in they’ll over your request and just let them know to check everything that warranty covers.

Please update us on what the service center says. $800 sounds ridiculous. I’m located near Riverside too and my Model X has 48,000 miles. I’m planning to schedule the inspection later this month.

WakeRider11 2026-03-13 21:33

How about just telling them that you hear a weird noise in the steering or front suspension and see if that gets you in the door for cheaper. I know you don’t get a full inspection that way, but that seems like the most common issue by far.

8bitaddict 2026-03-13 21:45

Are you not eligible for the extended service agreement?

CopyNPaste247 2026-03-13 21:56

Mine was 159 bucks

cjdangles 2026-03-13 22:11

I kinda wonder if word is spreading about these “before warranty ends inspections” and they’re trying to put a damper on it. Tesla service is backed up enough as it is 😬

isayx3 2026-03-13 22:11

this would have been a great approach

6158675309 2026-03-13 22:17

Thanks!

LiamJohnson46814 2026-03-13 22:23

Do you guys know if you purchased the extended warranty before it runs out? Do you need to do a car inspection for it?

dev_lvl80 2026-03-13 22:37

Could not understand this hype with inspection before warranty expires. Tesla rip off you on inspection and it’s totally against its interests to find anything! Illogical

kkiran 2026-03-13 23:15

Those are monthly now.

nah_you_good 2026-03-13 23:50

Some people got lucky on reddit so everyone wants in. Multiple service centers near me had no idea wtf a general inspection like that was and refused to do it.

dev_lvl80 2026-03-13 23:58

Lot's of thing in tesla is built on hype. I'm not a hater, but totally dislike such business.

Adventurous_Charge88 2026-03-14 00:05

Tesla usually honors the warranty based on when the service request was created, not the appointment date. As long as you opened the ticket before the warranty expires it should still be covered. I actually scheduled an inspection before my warranty ended last month and they honored it. I would check with the SC for peace of mind.

DigitalJEM 2026-03-14 00:49

Reschedule your appointment for Camarillo. Might be a bit of a drive, but they do things correctly there. They'll update your estimate to the correct amount.

DigitalJEM 2026-03-14 00:50

Mine also. Camarillo SC.

manateefourmation 2026-03-14 01:00

My service center said that there is no such thing as an inspection. The only thing, that team said, was that there is a mandatory $179 inspection if you want an extended service contract.

origosis 2026-03-14 01:30

Yeah the SC near me does this stuff all the time as well. They also randomly change the scheduled day or time without notification. (Once they changed it to next week while I was on my way.) They claimed they would NEVER change a schedule without asking me. (I had screen shots... They took the car in right away.) Sadly a couple of time they took my car in and did different work than was quoted, never addressed the main issue and tried to charge me for it. It's pretty bad at some SCs.

nickfireball2001 2026-03-14 02:00

Anyone know of any service centers in socal that are reputable?

803swampfox 2026-03-14 02:27

They are so arbitrary with their warranty inspection charges! I saw about $250 in online forums, but I was charged around $415. I needed the peace of mind, but yeah there’s definitely no set charge for this inspection.

6100315 2026-03-14 03:59

I'm about to run out on mine, trying to find squeaks so I can make a stronger case than just general inspection.
