You should look up the title for these and make sure they weren't buybacks. The website should show the CarFax info for it. In my experience looking for pre-owned MXP, if it seems too good to be true it probably is!

My biggest concern was how the car went from Florida to being registered in MT, and being sold in fordia again. I am not sure if I'm confusing myself, but the auto check seems to be clean? What do you think?

What would be your recommendation? Which cars should I be looking for? The 20k mile ones?

Not sure why it was sold in MT, it could be they sold it to a company that registers it there prior to re-selling it. I think Carvana does something like this, but I could be wrong.

Yeahhh it's hard shopping for these cars because their Carfax is basically empty since these cars don't get oil changes or anything and Tesla never reports any minor repairs

Plenty of people dumped them when the whole elon thing went on, this is perfectly normal.

Also people get range anxiety, don’t have a charger at home and don’t like the one pedal driving. Plenty of reasons a person which discard a Tesla at low mileage

Yes, higher mileage better (to a certain point)

Plus older people sometimes but them and don't drive many miles before they sell to move into assisted living. Etc.

Very good point, because their health can change at any time and then car is up for sale.

Lots of people only use their EV for daily commute, and some of those people don't have long commutes. Road trips and other mileage eaters are being put on the family ICE vehicle.
Also, some work from home folks just may not put a lot of mileage on their cars. I average 5k per year.
Nothing wrong with low mileage.
Also, with a Model 3, there's a good chance that someone is just upgrading a perfectly decent car to either a Y or even an S or X before continuation.
I just trade-in a perfectly good 2026 MY AWD with less than 2k miles for an X. Somebody's going to scoop that car up at a used price. And nobody should hesitate on grabbing it.

They may be like me……I have a work vehicle and so I only drive my car after work, weekends, and on trips. I’ve had my 2025 M3 for 13 months and it only has 7k miles. Could be someone like me, who is also married and they mainly use the spouses car for for errands and whatnot.

Lots of businesses and wealthy people do this. They setup an LLC in Montana and register cars there to avoid sales tax.
Tennessee is currently trying to make an example of the whistling diesel guy and arrested him for it. He will probably win but other states are trying to crack down on this.

When we were looking for our MYP I chatted with a sales guy about this. They had a 2026 MY with only 6,000 miles. I asked the same question - how did they get a car traded in with only 6k? He said you'd be surprised how many people trade in a car after a few months to a year, sometimes for what might seem like silly reasons. The lady that traded in this particular MY said the seats weren't comfortable enough. He said a lot of people also over-extend themselves and later realize they can't afford it. Anyway, there are lots of reasons, not just because the car is crappy.
Whatever the reason, make sure to ask why. It's a fair question.

This is the correct answer. Montana has no sales tax on cars, so registration is cheaper. Montana has 1 million residents, yet 2.3 million registered cars.

Registering cars in MT is super cheap. It is a way to avoid the local state's registration fees and taxes.

This is exactly what CarFax is for. But I wouldn't assume low mileage automatically means lemon. Some people just don't drive much.
