Subwoofer rear deck rattle fix - ‘24M3LR

After owning my ‘24 M3LR (AWD) for a year and a half I finally decided to tackle the rear deck sub rattle issue. Backstory: Purchased outright from Tesla in Aug ‘24, and had it in for service to fix the squeaky front suspension (was bad going over speed bumps (slowly esp)), sub rattle, and a few other minor interior adjustments, in Jan ‘25. All covered but the sub rattle, which they stated was “normal”. No diplomatic approach would sway them, so I accepted my loss on went in with life. But for the last year it’s been a PITA even with low bass. I don’t like to turn the bass off completely - music is just too flat for me without bass. \*Finding the Source Pump the bass up and follow year ear. Feel around your speaker deck while it’s pumping some good bass to see where it’s coming from. When I pushed down with good pressure you could hear the rattle was coming from the speaker smashing into the deck itself, but when I let go I observed (by listening) the deck lid rattling against the rear window, down by the 3rd brake light. \*The \[cheap\] Fix\* I went on AliExpress to grab some generic dynamat (sound dampener) and some double sided EVA foam tape and got to work. I compared specs with foam type and density (mainly) to the branded dynamat, but all seemed pretty close in spec. \- Sound Dampener (generic dynamat): I purchased 2 meter by .5 meter (10 mm thickness) from AliExpress for around $10. I did some conversions for the US reader (me 🤣) and that’s 6.56 feet by 1.64 feet at .394” thick. I cut a 3’ piece to fit the larger section of the undercarriage of the truck space, opposite to where the rear speaker deck is located. I didn’t remove a single thing. I used the piece of mat itself to measure with and used a sharpie to mark cut marks for the main angles on left and right side and extrapolated the line together and got to cutting with my trauma sheers from my OIF (Army) days 🥸 - Picture provided. \- EVA Foam tape: I purchased 5 meter long, 3mm thick, 15mm wide EVA double sided foam tape from AliExpress for $2.50. You gotta do the conversions on this one if you really want to know it 🤌🏼 After playing around with how much was needed and where it was needed, I keyed in on the gap between the rear window and the speaker deck. Without removing a single thing, look closely back there you’ll see there is some foam around the rear 3rd brake light already. What’s needed is that foam to extend another 7” towards the doors where the rear deck flares up towards the window. I cut 3 pieces of the foam tape, 7” long and taped the 3 together (only need to peel 2). I slid it into the space described above. It’s tight, but not too tight and shouldn’t take a super hard press to fit it in. I chose not to tape mine in as there wasn’t a reason to at this point. It doesn’t slide around in there due to foam material construction and fit, and is not visible. At this point I’m disappointed I didn’t tackle this \~ max 1hr job sooner, as the sound has never been better. Literally perfect. I’ll posted a few angle pics too showing no change to appearance externally as well. Hope this helps someone! Cross posted in another Tesla thread.

Taking my car in next week for this exact same issue. I'm hoping they can do something about it as it's just crazy how bad it rattles...

there's a cable under the black liner that is secured with some pointy tabs that you can see under the metal tray, those tabs are what rattles aswell you need to undo the whole tray to access

Yea I didn’t do any of that and it’s 👌🏼

I need to do this.. bad. This is the best stock stereo I've ever had and I can't turn it up👎

I have a good amount of material left from the $15 I spent on Ali to get it all. Super cheap fix!

I don't trust myself to do it. Lol.. is it an oversimplification to say you just cover the underside of the deck lid with that dynomat type material?

What's with Tesla gaslighting about this issue? I've tried getting this fixed three times and they're telling me it's just gonna do that when you turn it up but it's all the time.

It’s unreal. I’ve researched it pretty heavily and see so many mixed posts regarding whether or not they acknowledge the issue and take the fix on. It seems the vast majority do not fix it. Lmk if I can help in any way! It’s worth taking it on yourself for the cost and ease of the foam install ngl. I wish I had done it sooner!

Interested to hear what they say/do!

I was planning on fixing it myself in the summer. I think I knocked a clip loose playing a heavy bass song after they fixed it and then they didn't want to look at it again.
