My 72 year old father has trouble getting out of the car since he likes to use the “ Oh,shit” handle that does not exist. The menus and features were a learning curve for me, I assume older and less healthy people may struggle if they are not enamored with the technology to keep them interested.

For my Mom, I will be her tech support. She spends a lot of time on her computer and has learned what she needs to do for most of her stuff. I setup her phone to make it easier for her too. So I guess I will be doing the same for this too. lol Thanks

I can only speak for my experience recently getting a Tesla in Iowa.
1. Is ins about the same as a regular car?
For my wife changing from a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe the tesla was actually cheaper.
2. Sirius radio available or is it just streaming.
Both! We use Xm.
3. Est cost to have the charger installed at the home?
This varies but id say $1200-2000 from what ive seen.
4. Is the Model Y seat height about the same as most SUV's. Its difficult for her to get into low seats.
Y definitely sits higher than a 3. It was a bit lower than the Jeep stock but not a lot.
Thanks

I hope FSD hurrys up so these two ladies can get around without worrying about them. I think we might be seeing more and more of this. FSD and Cybercab are going to be game changer for the boomers. I can see my dad trading his X in for it. Never have to drive again and can always make it to the doctors.

FSD is NOT certified for someone who cannot drive a vehicle themselves.
I really feel for your wife, but it's way to early for a vehicle with FSD to be used in that way.
Do not put others at risk by thinking a level 2 system is sufficient for a person who cannot instantly take over when it makes mistakes. That's not what it is for yet.

Please listen to this before she causes an accident and hurts others. It sucks, but at some point she shouldn’t be behind the wheel.

This. FSD is impressive but the driver still needs to remain able to pay attention and take control if/when it makes an error.

The model 3 will be hard for a little old lady to get out of

I hear you. She is able to respond instantly for now. Starting new meds that will hopefully eliminate the further decline. For now, I feel comfortable with her driving, just thinking about her future. But yes, I will take the keys away if she declines further. Thanks for reminding me of this.

Do you think its lower than a prius? We are going to test drive some next week I hope and we will see.

definitely. i own a 2010 prius, 2018 model 3, and have had a 2008 prius. the priuses are way easier to get out of. im a big fatty and can tell the difference how hard it is to get out of the model 3 vs prius.. have to climb out instead of just step out, and thats with easy entry. she might be more fit than me so, of course ymmv

Set your mom up an Uber account instead.

My mother is in her late 70s and just returned my 2018 Model 3 after getting a used 2021 Model 3. As an accessibility considerations: We have used the 3 after two hip and one knee surgeries across multiple people; it's *doable*, but a little low, especially not having handles to help climb out. Have another family member using a Rollator walker who did not feel they could safely get out of the Model 3 but can comfortable travel in the Model Y.
It's certainly lower than a Prius. That may not be insurmountable, but it may not provide the same level of utility as a higher car.

Make sure you are buying new or at least used HW4 cars if you are this FSD dependent. I would go model Y for both.

Not a matter of if.. more like when. Anyone using FSD is a beta tester (literally says it on the screen) so using FSD means you need to be more attentive and a capable of driver more so than regular driving
