3-4 day turnaround for HW3 upgrade?

trying-to-work | 2026-03-04 00:05 | 23 views

For y'all who got HW3 upgrade on 2018 Model 3, how long did it take for the upgrade at the service center? This SC telling me they need the car for 3-4 days and won't provide any alternative transportation. Initially they said it will be done in 1-2 hrs and won't provide a loaner. When I messaged again asking if I could get a loaner coz I need to get to my work from there, they said they won't provide it and also that they need to hold my car for 3-4 days. Should I try another SC?

when i inquired about this (also 2018 model owner) they said they used to do it as a mobile service but would only need my car for a few hours in the service center. (The center is 2+ hours from here i just said nevermind, so cant give you an data on how long it actually took...)

It’s a few hours at most unless there is a complication. Tesla doesn’t normally offer loaners or transportation. Just how it is.

I would be fine for a couple hours and could wait at the SC but its crazy if they want to keep it for 3-4 days they should offer a loaner or atleast uber credits.

They offer loaners all the time. If your service is more than 3 hours, you get a loaner.

Mine took about 5 days but they only worked on it on the 5th day. The wait is for all the cars they have on queue. The upgrade can be done in about an hour, depending on how fast the car updates after the FSD computer replacement. Kinda sucks given how much tech they have with their appointment system that they can’t have you come in when it’s almost your car’s turn in the queue.

A week+ plus multiple visits. First visit they didn't have the part so had to return. They even broke my dash at one point so had to return it for it to be replaced. I did have a loaner during the dash replacement but not the first part. This was only two years ago so they had been doing the upgrades for a bit at that point.

Took 2-3 days for me

They told me it takes about 2-3 days because of the software to download into the new hardware including validation. I'm waiting for my Tesla to be finished. Fortunately, they gave me a sleek 2026 M3 loaner with FSD.

They could. The problem with that is always when the customer no shows or shows up 20 mins late expecting to get in right away. Thats why most commercial shops don't take appointments. First come first serve

I ended up rescheduling to another SC thats a bit far out, I am gonna call them as the date approaches to confirm I am getting a loaner.

I get a loaner every time. Depends on the SC

In the SF Bay Area, loaners (and Uber credits) don’t happen anymore. Too busy.

Reason #1075 the SF Bay Area sucks

Yea my first attempt was at the Los Gatos SC, they initially said it will take 1.5 hrs and then later bumped it to 4 days and said they’ll only even consider a courtesy transport if it were a warranty service. I am now trying at the Sunnyvale SC but pretty sure they’ll say the same. Atleast it’s closer to my work.
