Removing Homelink from a 2018 Model 3 LR RWD - will there be any software errors/issues?

Hey everyone. I'm upgrading to a 2026 MYP and saw it doesn't have Homelink. I'm going to be selling my 2018 Model 3 which \*does\* have Homelink. I'm planning to uninstall it and put it into the new MYP. Two questions: \#1 if I remove homelink from my 2018 Model 3, will it throw any kind of error code / issue? \#2 Has anyone successfully transferred a homelink unit from a 2018 Model 3 to a MYP? :) Thanks for the help. Much appreciated.

From what I’ve been told, make sure you disable homelink in the service settings before removing it. The mounting bracket may be different in the new Tesla, I can’t confirm. Personally, I decided that it wasn’t worth the hassle.

You will need to reload the software from the service menu after install it in the new car. Tesla will install a new one for $350

Yeah it’s pricey from Tesla. Might as well pull it off my Model 3 if it’s compatible.

For the MY, you didn’t have to remove the bumper, just the frunk liner. There’s probably a video on YouTube

The modules have the same part number so it is compatible with the MY. I don’t know what’s involved in removing from the M3, but installing in the MY takes about 30 minutes without having to remove the bumper. The hardest part of the installation is lining up the bolt that holds the module in place. Unless you have very small hands, it will be a challenge. Many users have reported using a zip tie in place of the bolt as effective in securing the mounting.
