Lol it sounds like you want the M3, so just get that one. I would pick the Y performance but it’s mainly because the 3 is too small for me

because there are none. All hw4 model 3s are highlands

I have a 3 on 2.5 and a Y on 4. In my case I drive my Model Y a lot more than my 3. The Y is just a better everyday car and the 4 computer is significantly better.
But really it comes down to your preference.

HW4 only really matters if you plan to use FSD. If you do, you absolutely want a car with HW4.

How’s your range with the y as a daily?

Test drove a m3p and got a MYP. Just a better daily if you like more general space in the car, have a dog etc. it’s lowered enough that it’s really just a sizzling hot hatch

As someone who's only owned sportscars their entire life, that's a tough one. M3P if that's plenty of room for your needs. MYP if you need more room. The MYP sacrifices some speed and handling to the M3P, but it has more comfortable seating position, far more roomy, and has much more cargo space. I have a MYP and it's pretty much the perfect daily I could dream up.

My commute is 15 miles each way. So the range is never a problem. But even when I use it on the weekends to go places I’ve never had an issue with range. At 80% it’s 270ish. I would say actual miles driven it’s probably 230ish.

2018 3 and 2026 Y. My Y is Premium AWD not Performance.

I also have a 24 MYP. I’d say around 275. I’ve really only done a few road trips. Most driving is in my town or 20 miles. Range anxiety isn’t a thing for me. There are so many super chargers where I’m at. You’ll have range anxiety at first but it goes away

M3P, if you are going for speed, go for speed. 3 also has better handling.

I have a M3P. My wife got a YLR. I would def buy a YP, if I had to do it over again. Just for the snake offering on and out. I’m getting old lol

For the Model 3: quieter cabin, smoother suspension, ventilated seats, better overall assembly, FSD v14. It's also looks better imo.

If you don't want a refresh, hw4 MYP hands down. But I'd strongly recommend considering the refresh M3P. It's vastly improved over the older M3P and much more fun than the MYP.
Source: I own both a late 23 MYP and a 24 M3P, both with hw4.

They specifically said they wanted pre refresh though and as much as my refresh M3P is the best car I've ever owned, if they don't want the refresh, I'd take the late 23 or later MYP over a pre refresh M3P. They are doing themselves a disservice though.

Yes, I was going to get a 23.. I’m glad I paid the money for the 24.. it’s better in every way. Some years aren’t that different. This one is a whole new car from 23 to 24..

I have one of the very last pre-refresh Model 3 Performances that were built (10/2023), and my wife has one of the last of the pre-refresh Model Y Peformances. We also prefer the pre-refresh looks.
Both have the faster AMD computers, though mine is HW3, and hers is HW4. Neither have the "bumper warts", since both were built after they discontinued those sensors (which makes those clean bumper covers a bit of a rarity).
Personally, I would stilll pick my HW3 M3P over the wife's HW4 MYP. I prefer the lighter weight and better-handling lower car. She prefers the Y for the hatchback for making Costco runs, but the Y feels notably heavier and less nimble to me.
About the only difference we have noted between the FSD performance is that the HW4 MYP will back itself into our driveway. The wife struggles with doing that, so she's happy about that, but this is completely a non-issue for me. Other than that, the max speed settings say different things ("hurry" vs "mad max"), but otherwise we can't tell them apart. I have yet to discover anything giving me any HW4 envy, and I've been looking for such things for the last year.

Drive the regular version… I can’t tell the difference between the regular and performance. The regular one is super fast…
I’d base more of the decision on cargo and leg room and also on what color rims you want. Regular in my opinion is the ay to go. Spend the extra couple grand on charging or taking your significant other out to sushi in your new car.

How important is FSD to you?
I had a long commute, and figured I spend more time inside my car than looking at it from the outside. So I prioritize function over form.

Fair enough. Have you seen them in person? There's a massive difference in comfort and performance from the 23 M3P to the 24 M3P. I can't recommend the pre refresh M3P so I would strongly suggest the pre refresh hw4 MYP then. It's a more versatile car overall by far but takes a significant performance hit on handling and you sit much higher. Vs the older M3P it isn't as much of a quickness hit but the MYP is still slower than the pre refresh M3P at lower speeds.
