[Decision] 2026 Model 3 Premium AWD vs. Model Y Premium RWD
I’m looking for some community perspective on a "second car" decision. I’ve narrowed it down to two specific 2026 trims, and I’m caught between driving dynamics and utility. The Context: • Current Fleet: We have a Jeep for primary utility/family hauling. • Charging: Strictly Level 1 (120V) home charging (Work from home, so high dwell time). • Geography: Midwest (Chicago area), so winters are a factor. The Contenders: 1. Model 3 Premium AWD (Highland+): \* The Pull: 4.2s 0-60 and the AWD handling. It would be a "diverse" addition to the garage—something low, sporty, and completely different from the Jeep. • The Hesitation: Lower seating position for car seats (though rarely used in this car) and less cargo flexibility than a hatch. 2. Model Y Premium RWD (Juniper Refresh): • The Pull: The updated cabin, the 17-speaker studio sound system (now standard on the Premium RWD), and the hatchback utility. The 5.4s 0-60 feels "quick enough" for a daily. • The Hesitation: It’s somewhat redundant to the Jeep’s utility. Does it feel like "just another SUV" in the driveway? The Dilemma: Tech-wise, it feels like a wash since both have the 2026 refreshes. I’m caught between the speed/handling of the 3 AWD and the utility/audio/comfort of the Y RWD. For those who have owned both or made a similar choice: If you already had an SUV in the driveway, did you regret getting a second one (Model Y), or did you find the Model 3’s driving dynamics worth the trade-off in utility?
