Just the base model rwd juniper, please.

ihateroomba | 2026-03-02 06:48 | 116 views

I couldn't be swayed to wait 2-3 weeks for a premium. The apr was 3.99, which to me wasn't reasonable. The only premiums available were demo cars (300-400mi) and the $400 discount just didn't do it for me. I bought the pet liner and purchased FSD outright because I plan on driving it 300,000mi or more. I'm not a "car guy", but I really think the traditional head and taillights keep the standard car vibe without being too novelty. What I'm saying is, I like the way this refresh looks just as it is. I think it holds its own. If I could do it again, I would have demoed and maybe waited, ordered a premium with the new 0.99% apr and stuck to FSD subscription, because of the acoustic glass windows and roof. I value a quieter ride. But I would have hated the headlight and been disappointed on a daily basis. Incredibly happy with the basic rwd refresh in the stock color.

Kinda dumb expecting to drive for 300k miles and getting FSD outright but not getting a premium.

snownight77 2026-03-02 07:26

As long as your happy with your purchase that’s all that matters. Enjoy!

Silly_Pattern9677 2026-03-02 07:28

Why do they keep buying FSD before Elon makes it transferable 😭😭 Makes no financial sense. FSD doesn’t care how much you drive.

FuzzyFr0g 2026-03-02 09:21

The standard MY is highly underrated. It’s a great car for the price. At least in my country, nothing comes close

WeebBois 2026-03-02 10:23

In fairness, a vehicle having FSD increases the value by a couple thousand. If OP intends to constantly use FSD and drive a lot, it makes sense.

anangrytaco 2026-03-02 11:39

I feel like if you were gonna keep it 300k mi and purchase FSD I would spent the little bit more for the premium for the extra quality features. However you did say you're not a car guy and head the light bar so I kinda get it. But also your frunk is now smaller and not waterproof. Which people don't realize it's a big downside. I don't know boss man. I feel like the premium rwd would have been better for your Long term keep. Also, slightly better range +36 mi. But I get money talks too with what offers were currently available

sd2528 2026-03-02 12:22

I'm learning over time that I'm the odd one. For something as expensive as a car, I don't want to pick from what is just on the lot at that time. I'll wait the time to get the options I want.

hwcminh 2026-03-02 12:26

Can't wait for you to come back here and list all the negatives...

SiberianCoconut 2026-03-02 12:56

Why should he? Personally, the standard has everything what I need. Considering that the price gap in Europe is about 10k euro, this is smart decision

FLawless______ 2026-03-02 13:07

Declaring that he wouldn’t wait 2-3 weeks for a premium is a weird thing to say when going a big step down.

getoffmytrailbro 2026-03-02 13:09

It’s not transferable. It has no impact on car value.

Away-Scar7754 2026-03-02 13:17

Good on you. Enjoy. I’ve had the refreshed M3 RWD since April ‘25 and love it. You can get 300k miles no problem

Away-Scar7754 2026-03-02 13:29

How so?

ihateroomba 2026-03-02 13:30

20-20 hindsight. I didn't know they were going to bring the apr down to 0.99%. I wouldn't justify the extras for that much extra money and the FSD on top. In the end I just don't like the look of the premium. I can buy a rubber gasket for the frunk.

dnguyen823 2026-03-02 13:31

I think you’re just convincing yourself you made the right decision but deep down you wish you got the premium.

Away-Scar7754 2026-03-02 13:32

I’ve used my frunk less than 10 times since I got my M3 RWD last April. Not sure if I’m not considering the utility or if it’s not that big a deal

stadce071012 2026-03-02 13:46

Buying FSD outright on a standard instead of upgrading to a premium was defiantly a decision.

WeebBois 2026-03-02 13:47

Simply wrong, the car itself keeps FSD. You can’t transfer it to a different car but the car you sell retains FSD (which increases resale value).

ihateroomba 2026-03-02 13:49

Again, the only premium feature I like is the acoustic glass. I don't like the headlights. I used to really like solid tail lights like on the older Dodge charger but the faded beam doesn't appeal to me. I'm being completely honest.

ed25ca 2026-03-02 13:56

Congrats man! Even the base model is a good choice.

ihateroomba 2026-03-02 14:10

I think you're reacting to possibly buying or thinking of buying a premium and being content that it's the "better" choice, while I don't really agree with the marketing and marginal additions.  At first sight, I thought the headlights were interesting, but over time I've seen them as odd. I used to think a panoramic roof would have been really cool, but using it isn't something I'd be doing because I'm not sitting in the car staring up.  The vegan leather isn't a big difference to me. The rear screen isn't a big deal to me. The interior lightbar is really not an interest. If I could have bought acoustic glass for $2000-3000 I would have, but nothing else appeals. A standard 2026 car is far beyond acceptable. The standard juniper reminds me of an older rx7 FC3S with an obvious modern take, and I like that more than "bling".

ihateroomba 2026-03-02 14:19

It will save me around $4000 over the total ownership 🤷

FLawless______ 2026-03-02 14:33

Fair enough. In US the stdd-to-prem price gap is 5k for rwd, and 7k for awd; i can appreciate the narrowing of scope to only spend on exactly what you need, i did that when picking which gen model S i was going to get. What’s jarring is that the discount doesn’t objectively equal the value of what’s taken away; on the flip side I suppose we could say damn we get a lot more for 7k! But you opened your post as “didn’t want to wait 2-3 weeks”, that screams impulse buy and just accepting less for a big purchase. You should probably downvote yourself instead of me for that botched thought process :)

Schnitzhole 2026-03-02 14:57

I still think these base models are great cars. Not everyone needs the speed and small quality of life upgrades from the premium. Enjoy the extra cash in your pocket. I would have preferred a covered roof to reduce cabin noise and i hear the interior in the base is almost just as quiet because of that change. I likely would have got the base model if it were out at the time. I also prefer the open center console, and manual steering wheel. Im considering vynaling over the center of my premium AWD to get as similar front headlights look

9gUz4SPC 2026-03-02 15:57

It's more like why not make it water proof? You never know when it'll rain and if you have something there, it'll get wet. The peace of mind is great.  It's such a penny pinching move from Tesla.

SnooEpiphanies3413 2026-03-02 17:52

I might be in the minority but I like the front look of the base standard better than the premium 😂

Queasy-Bed545 2026-03-02 17:56

The Standard Model Y is mostly a good deal but comes with some painful compromise points. The lack of FM radio, fewer speakers, shorter range, and slower charging are most notable. You can probably live without them but they are painful compromises at that price point. I ended up in a Premium RWD Model 3 instead.

ihateroomba 2026-03-02 17:59

Haven't listened to the radio in years 🙂 I can live without the subwoofers, I dial the bass down currently. I have fairly high end headphones for reference, so the comparison when listening to the same song in-car is satisfactory. I wouldn't say I am charging any slower. Full charge at Tesla is 30 mins.  So, while on paper is looks one way or another, it's totally fine.  Again, it's totally fine.

ihateroomba 2026-03-02 17:59

🤝

ihateroomba 2026-03-02 18:03

It is a bit weird. So I'll buy a gasket seal and not think twice about it. $30-$40. Could be worse. If anything, I'm mad about the need to purchase liners.

Queasy-Bed545 2026-03-02 18:05

Sounds like you made the right decision. Congrats.

nachos3 2026-03-02 18:23

The thing people disliked most about the standard was no autopilot. Now no models have autopilot. It's a good deal now

getoffmytrailbro 2026-03-02 18:50

Not true anymore unfortunately.

ihateroomba 2026-03-02 19:21

Fsd?

nachos3 2026-03-02 19:23

It only came with cruise control unless you bought fsd. Everyone thought that it was crazy. Now the premium only comes with cruise control

getoffmytrailbro 2026-03-02 20:40

Assuming you paid $2k then, not $8k? There is no cost savings with the $8k at the current sub price.

WeebBois 2026-03-02 21:16

I have a friend who bought a used model y with FSD on it… where are you getting your info?

Master-Journalist888 2026-03-02 22:23

Welcome to Tesla and don’t listen to anyone who will try to say anything negative. Your car is the most efficient Tesla vehicle, and does everything that any other model Y does. And you saved close to $7k vs Premium model if you consider APR difference. Congrats

Master-Journalist888 2026-03-02 22:27

Premium doesn’t offer anything special to many people. Many care less about 0-60 number, LED lights, don’t use frunk, cover roof with shades etc. The biggest loss is 20k miles of battery/DU warranty, but with the savings it may be worth the risk.

ihateroomba 2026-03-02 23:00

It's not a lease, so yes, I will have it for a few years without paying the subscription fee.

No-Milk-9709 2026-03-02 23:48

Do you really regret buying FSD outright. IF your planning on using the car forever then i think its worth. Is it really not worth it?

ihateroomba 2026-03-03 02:30

It's only worth it in the long term. Like 10 years.  I'll be saving $1000 per year after year 8. That's a long time.

sadwinkey 2026-03-03 03:03

How dare you be happy!

bobs987 2026-03-03 03:17

I still have Christmas lights my parents gave to me in November sitting in the frunk

ihateroomba 2026-03-03 03:35

😭😭😭😭😭

MadMensch 2026-03-03 04:19

I don’t think ventilated seats, better climate filtration, panoramic roof, premium audio, better range, faster charging, and ambient lighting are “marginal additions” or just “marketing”. That’s like saying you’d rather have a steel frame bike because carbon is just “marketing”.

ihateroomba 2026-03-03 04:28

I disagree, because I'm not overheating on seats, I don't need "bioweapon" filtration, 2026 basic audio is using the best patents because they've been free use for over a decade, the charging is literally minutes faster, and ambient lighting that is set to rbg is reminiscent of a teenagers bedroom. These are marketing options for people with stimulation issues.

Mac-Tyson 2026-03-03 05:32

Plus it doesn’t have drain now anymore so is there any chance of it starting to fill up with water?
