Model 3 performance interior

stixmike | 2026-03-01 14:46 | 23 views

I test drove the model 3 performance and I loved everything about it, except I wasn't blown away with the interior. Not really sure what I was expecting. I think it's definitely an upgrade in terms of the seats, but for $56k I guess I was expecting a little more. And I'm not even sure what I'm expecting. Maybe the reason the people think the interior looks cheap is due to the lack of buttons and knobs. But I guess I'm just wondering what everyone thinks about the performance interior? I guess for the extra $8k we're really paying for the added horsepower and not interior upgrades.

We got a new MY. The interior is sparse and uninspiring. IMO Teslas are a tool… an appliance. It gets my wife to and from work using FSD confidently. She has less stress on her hour commute each way. Our other EV is a Volvo C40. While it doesn’t have the tech for FSD and the pilot assist is meh at best, it’s a better driving EV. I actually enjoy driving it. I don’t go out of my way to drive the MY.

I just borrowed my friends 3P for a day and traded him my Audi E-Tron GT. I was really disappointed with how cheap the interior felt in the 3 after coming from the Audi. Plastic feels hollow and cheap, everything feels “budget”. My S didn’t feel that way, but overall it’s a Tesla thing. You pay for tech and speed, not luxury

stixmike 2026-03-01 15:01

Do you have the performance version?

OldFartWelshman 2026-03-01 15:02

It's a taste thing. Personally, I love the cleanness of them - the lack of bells, whistles and buttons feels very Scandinavian to me. I am always slightly puzzled why people want to add buttons and displays and ruin the look. Coming up on 70k miles on mine and it still looks good as new.

stixmike 2026-03-01 15:03

Yeah I wonder the same thing. I can understand if people think the materials feel cheap looking. But whenever I tell someone I’m considering a model 3 performance they tell me I should buy a Benz because of the better interior

FitterOver40 2026-03-01 15:08

No… didn’t need it. Don’t get me wrong, I like the super limited and clean look of the interior. In terms of power in an EV, there’s only so much you need and can use on a daily basis with public roads.

I mean… when I bought my performance in 2021, I was disappointed with the performance interior options - cause there were none. You get wood or white plastic. Black or white seats. At least now you get cool performance seats and the carbon fiber patterns. So it’s a huge upgrade from prior options.

Completely agree. It's why my highland is basically my perfect car.

FLawless______ 2026-03-01 15:27

People forget that 3/Ys aren’t luxury cars, they’ll never be dressed like it. That’s what the S/X was for, along w the unrivaled speed. BUT, that doesn’t mean they’re not nice.

2024 here. I love the interior. 1st EV for me. So it’s odd having no dashboard or stalks . Until I get used to it, it’s a bit annoying to have to do that stuff thru one screen. But once I get used To it that won’t bother me. I absolutely love the ambient light ring that goes all the way around the interior! I set it to red and love it. The dash is nice, seats are nice. One nit pick is that you have to buy center console inserts. I’ve never bought a car that just has a bottomless cavern under the arm rest and storage areas in front of the cup holders. Picked some up for &35 so no biggie. But that was odd. I was going to get a 2023 and the interior of the the 2024 was significantly better. Sorry.. lots of words to say.. 👍😂

mushyspider 2026-03-01 15:31

It’s because it’s all plastic. Tesla uses plastic seats, steering wheel, plastic carpet that sheds (the paperwork inside the glovebox was covered in the fine plastic fibers)

Tsurfer4 2026-03-01 15:33

Interesting. I think they're perfectly fine. I have one of each.

stixmike 2026-03-01 15:34

True but for $56k I was hoping for more than just plastic interior. But the performance does look slightly better with the nicer seats

FLawless______ 2026-03-01 15:47

🥲 the ludicrous badge and seats really had me questioning if we missed out for not stretching our budget when we chose new MY AWD. But it turned out becoming my wife’s car and she FSDs 100% and would’ve been annoyed with a stiffer sportier ride, and costlier tire changes

IMO in the crossover/mid suv world, the Juniper Premium AWD Ys video game attributes would look like this: Max 10 \*s * Tech: \*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\* * Speed: \*\*\*\*\*\*\* * Handling: \*\*\*\*\* * Comfort: \*\*\*\*\*\*\* * Exterior: \*\*\*\*\*\*\* * Interior: \*\*\*

3 & Y?

Virtual-Hotel8156 2026-03-01 16:13

Model 3P is a lot of car for the money and an incredible value, even if the interior isn’t class-leading. I happen to like the interior a lot, but that’s subjective.

stixmike 2026-03-01 16:15

I think you’re right. I can’t find anything else brand new in its price range with the tech and performance of the 3 performance

Tsurfer4 2026-03-01 16:27

Yes, my wife drives the Model 3. I drive the Model Y. We bought the Y after having the 3 for a year and I was missing FSD on my short 3-day-per-week commute.

FLawless______ 2026-03-01 16:35

Nice! That was almost the pairing we went with but I fell in love with the MS and ended up making it our 2nd instead

FLawless______ 2026-03-01 16:38

XD not the worst reason to choose an MB over Tesla, since that's basically all it does better. A comparable one will be more than 60K, not be as fast, have a higher cost of ownership, and won't come close to the tech!

stixmike 2026-03-01 16:39

Totally agree

FLawless______ 2026-03-01 18:54

>there’s only so much you need and can use on a daily basis with public roads. yup still waiting for my moments on my usual routes lol. in the past week I've had just 1 chance to over take 2 cars on a 3 lane change effortlessly. 1. also had a pair of hondas, a bmw non-m, and some durango non-hellcats pick on me, i declined all but 1 and dusted it. probably the 1 time i wish i went performance or plaid but it's not like it mattered.

StartledPelican 2026-03-01 19:11

Isn't the E-Tron GT more than twice the price of the M3P? And isn't the S far more comparable in price to the E-Tron?

Super_consultant 2026-03-01 20:16

All their interiors are like this. IMO, what matters is that it’s a comfortable place to be, and it fulfills that. Everything is also soft touch plastic and not the piano black they used to use for Model 3.  I don’t care for Model Y at all, but I think they did an excellent job with the door panel by using varied materials. The door panels look much nicer than Model S/X for that reason alone. Just use some nice, varied materials!

PointOverall8995 2026-03-01 20:59

That’s because they want vanity

gym4c 2026-03-02 13:00

I agree. I don’t get the point of that post…

gym4c 2026-03-02 13:02

You are paying for Performance parts, not Luxury parts. That’s how I see my M3P. The extra money gets you carbon fiber parts, performance seats, and a crazy motor that blows the doors off of 99% of cars out there costing 2-3x the amount

wolfy_101 2026-03-03 12:19

You could buy something else, complete with lots of shiny black plastic, a plastic key fob, and a dealer service schedule with oil and filter changes
