Look at the Pilar camera, does it look redish?

Check the side cameras. If they have a red reflection, it's HW4.

I have an early July 2023 build from Fremont and it is a hw4, but it was right after they started HW4.

Do you know when it was built?
North America (Starting **May 2023**):
indicate that Tesla began progressively equipping Model Ys manufactured at its Fremont, California factory with HW4 from late May 2023. However, this was a transitional period where HW3 and HW4 vehicles coexisted

It also doesn’t matter… HW4.5 rolling out already and will soon be told HW5 needed for true FSD

What’s the screen look like when in park? Big car on screen (HW4)? Or 1/3 screen small car (HW3)?

I think that vin will have HW4 based on my vin being HW3 and about 100k vehicles earlier I was 3 weeks approx from the switch. But the only way to tell for sure is to have a look in person.

There is no official hw4.5
Mindless-Respect7155

Hw 4.5 is not a thing

Based on the VIN, should be HW4. The last six of HW4 start from 385XXX

Its easier to look at the turn signal light on the side repeater camera, its not always easy to see the red or sometimes a HW3 camera might look red in the right light

Good to note. How accurate is that?

New around here…?
Again point holds 4.5 is already out and “needed” for FSD. So whether its HW3 vs 4 is largely irrelevant if goal is being able to use future FSD

Tesla themself said that hw 4.5 was a false label; what points are you talking about?
Are you new to keeping up on Tesla news or just trying to belittle me with that comment
Tesla-one-X

Sure it’s not an official release. But there are Ys with a new 3 SoC architecture that has higher throughput and processing power.
Given HW4 is already 3 years old, new HW is coming if not already discretely in cars but software restricted still

2026-02-28 22:53
Yes, Tesla simply had a “mislabeling” error as the official answer but didn’t deny it was an upgrade or change to the current SoC architecture.
Point stands with HW 4.0 over 3 years old that its on its way out. That’s ancient in hardware world.
Odd timing they suddenly started labeling “HW 4.0” cars differently, no?

Actually, that’s true for Model X I think. Not sure about the other models. But ya, if you have a picture of Software Version Screen, Full Self Driving Computer 4 means HW4

His last 6 numbers don’t start with 385 but also that’s not true for model Y anyway
