$16K depreciation over 3 years is nothing. Think of it like you paid $444 a month to lease your current car. Assuming you can get $17K in trade in for it, I would jump on the FSD transfer and low financing.

Maybe check how much you could get from Carvana? It’s usually higher than what Tesla will offer you.

Taking that big of a loss on a car with that low of miles? Makes no sense if theres nothing wrong with it

Yeah true the car works fine zero issues I just wanted the newer FSD hardware since it’s paid in full

There will be transfers again and HW5, I dont think this jump is worth it yet

Impossible to give real advice without knowing your broader finacial situation. In generally if you do decide to buy a new Model Y I don't think you need the AWD, save a few bucks and get the RWD. You still get the premium audio and interior unlike the Model 3 RWD which is nerfed on those.

Look at autonation / carmax they offered 4-5k higher than Tesla

No one knows if this is true, and I'd argue that it won't happen - Elon's paycheck literally depends on subscription volumes, and there's been plenty of opportunities to transfer in the past.
Plus, FSD on HW3 seems like a dead end. Best to move it to something good (AI4) while you still have a chance.

People always say that but they keep having these transfers to motivate sales. They also say hw3 will get an upgrade. No point to lose 17k because of FOMO

You got 3 years out of the car for 16k, thats less than 500/mo. Seems fine unless it’s a lot relative to your networth and income, then it would hurt and be fiscally irresponsible.

Thank you that’s a good suggestion

Thanks I’ll check it out that’s a big difference

The difference is now, Teslas are no longer sold with a perpetual FSD license. So they've already decided it's subscription or nothing.

If you can financially afford the AWD, get the AWD. RWD, yes you get better range. But with AWD, traction in snow/rain and acceleration is better. Also, only the AWD version gives you option to upgrade acceleration boost. More pros with the AWD than cons.
I’ve yet to meet someone regret AWD decision on model y. Plenty of folks with regrets with the RWD.

If you can budget for the new MY, sure. 1% interest is dirt cheap. Just think of it as you've been "leasing" your current M3 for essentially $460/month over these past three years

You still owe $17k on a 2018 car? Unless you can get about that much for it, I wouldn’t go upside down just to upgrade

But the break even point was like 5 years, by then the competition will have changed greatly and it's a question of when other manufacturers will offer FSD equivalents. Rivian is almost there

You’re also getting FSD out of it. That’s 8k value when transferred. So it’s not a total loss of the amount you calculated.

Just did this today with my ‘18 3 LR, got a new premium Y inventory to ensure FSD transfer before 3/31, pickup tomorrow.

It depends on your life situation. I have the same car as yours with 42k miles. Bought new in 2018. My commute is ultra short and I use FSD as a novelty when I’m bored. Did put a deposit for the Y because of the FSD transfer, but cancelled since I don’t want a car payment (even with .9%).
