Very frustrated with Tesla service after eight repair attempts and weeks in the shop

scubadoobadoooo | 2026-02-25 02:13 | 13 views

Just got a text earlier saying they couldn't replicate my concern. Despite me showing them the rattles in my car literally every time I drop it off, they couldn't replicate it on their own. This is getting absurd as I am on attempt number 8 to try and fix these rattles. I messaged them after I got the text and they didn't reply. They also didn't call me to let me know I can pick up the car. The app says ready for pickup so I assume they want me to pick it up. I just wanted to say I am extremely disappointed in Tesla service.

not sure why this post was recommended to me but eight repair attempts and weeks without your vehicle to try and hunt down rattles is insane. Rattles suck but at some point it is best to just come to terms with it or investigate it yourself. It is hard to convince other people to fix your minor inconveniences. If I took my vehicle to the dealership eight times for rattles I'm pretty sure they'd put me on some kind of "problem customer" list

So where is the rattle. Please describe. We all here fix many.

It's not that simple. I am not going to take apart the dashboard to find a rattle - they told me this takes an experienced technician two hours to do. I have very little experience. They seem to want to fix the problem, the manager and lead technician got involved without me having to ask so they are trying to resolve the issue. So I don't think I'm on their problem customer list yet.

It's coming from the dashboard and it changes depending on how they try to fix it. First it was a passenger side rattle, then it came from behind the screen, then it went back to coming from the passenger side. A driver's side rattle showed itself too at some point. It sounds like it's coming from inside the dashboard.

Do you have a 24 or newer Model 3? I’ve had dashboard noise that sounds almost like glass coming from the dashboard and ambient light strip. Service fixed it once and it’s reappeared about 6 months later but less noticeable.

It’s a 2024 Model 3. That was one of the ways they tried fixing the rattle. I think mine is coming from inside

I also have a rattle in my dashboard. Seems to be very noticeable when the AC is turned on. Been meaning to make a service appointment but fucking dreading it. Any tips people can recommend for these types of issues I’d greatly appreciate it

Find a road near the dealership that you can reproduce the rattle on consistently. That should help

Advice given by a technician that rode with me recently when we couldn’t reproduce the noise was switching to. SC that had bad roads near it so it could be more easily reproduced.

I had this issue, turns out I just needed to reseat some of the metal clips holding down the dashboard wing (the long removable trim piece covered in cloth). Those metal clips are super fragile and sometimes the factory worker installing the trim breaks some of the clips instead of clipping them in correctly.

Yo tenía un ruido, que parecía venir como del espejo retrovisor derecho, se notaba cuando iba a más de 100km por hora. En una mañana me lo arreglaron definitivamente, la solución según me dijeron, fue cambiar el volante.

When you show them the rattle, are they able to hear it? Does it rattle only when the car is moving? Does it rattle when the car is "powered off" or in service mode?

On my 22 M3 I stuck two little stoppers on either end of the windshield inbetween the dash and the windshield. Literally cut a wine bottle cork into quarter sections and then took one quarter for each side. Fixed my dash rattle issues.

scubadoobadoooo 2026-02-25 17:45

Yes, they hear it every time I have to drop the car off for my appointments. We go for test drives. The rattle only happens when the car is moving.

I have two rattles. One behind the screen, there is a clunk noise every second or two that sounds out of place. Doesn't bother me that much since you typically have music on and can't hear it unless it is dead silent. My other issue is both doors. I live in a cold climate or the north east USA. First thing when getting in the car both doors rattle at rhe slightest bump. But after a while it seems to stop as I drive more. I do want Tesla to look at them both but feel they will not find anything or ignore it. I have a 2026 prwd model 3. Stinks

Did something fall down the vent and now it's rolling around?

scubadoobadoooo 2026-02-25 18:29

Not that I know of. I never had anything sitting on the dashboard that could have fallen in
