You will like the size of a MY better, but the M3 is more fun to drive. It feels like a little go kart. Suspensions not great in either.
I was deciding between M3P and MYP and went MYP. No regrets but ultimately ended up in a MXP.

I'm in the same boat as you. I drove a 2020 M340i and went into a 2024 Model 3 AWD. I saved a bunch on my payment and gas for 1.5 years, and now I'm looking to go M3P or MYP. I just recently test drove the MYP and while it felt really nice, the ride height was a bit higher than I'm used to and the Model 3 just feels a bit more fun to drive. It might be worth test driving both, but either way they will be a significant improvement over the M340i in performance and tech.

They are both fun to drive. The Model 3 is a bit more sporty, the Model Y is much more practical. I have an MYP and love it. Now that I’m used to having so much extra space I could never go back to a Model 3.

Are you buying one of the refresh models or older? What suspension issues are you talking about? The refresh M3P has excellent suspension, but the brakes could be a bit better.

M3P has track mode, MYP doesn't. MYP also comes with tow capability, 3500 lb trailer with brakes. Can't beat the Y for versatility or practicality.
OTOH, for the next few days, the price gap between MYP and Cybertruck has narrowed to a few thousand bucks. Steer by wire and 4 wheel steering are amazing, and it's plenty fast. Note I own a Cybertruck and a Juniper MYP.

More space is always better, so get the MYP. But more space is better so get the MX. But more space is better so get a CT. But more space is better so wait and get the Tesla big rig truck. You'll always regret not getting more space, ignore handling, saving money, and fun. Space is the answer!

M3P corners significantly better & has track mode (customizable traction, stability control & power distribution bias)
Model Y is obviously larger, no track mode, but does have V2L capability

Just went from an 19 STI to a 24 M3P… I have no experience with the Y.. but the M3P is pretty amazing. Super fast. The biggest misconception I had is that Tesla’s were one trick ponies. Boy was I wrong. The car corners like it’s on rails. Better than my STI in every way. Adaptive suspension. The best stock stereo I’ve ever had. Full self drive is amazing. Came with a front lip, spoiler and rear diffuser. It’s a lot of car for the money. I will say to get a 2024+… and put a budget aside for tires. lol.. never driven a Y so can’t compare.

Right now based on price, I’m not gonna be able to afford the 2024 model three or the newer generation of y (2025).
Do you have any experience with the previous generation model three or model Y??
I’ve heard similarly positive reviews. The only downside I’ve heard about is the suspension not being super good.

Interestingly, enough doesn’t the 2023 model three performance have an 1100 lbs tow capacity so technically if I’m only ever towing a moto I should be fine no?

Non refresh. I’ve heard ppl mention a clunking at low speeds on uneven roads.
Although that issue was also being mentioned with the new refresh of the Y and the 3

Sorry, I don’t. My 24 M3P is my first EV. I would guess they are pretty similar though and you need more room. So I think the Y would be your pick. It is still plenty fast and I would guess handles well also. I was set on the 2023 M3P for price point as well. I was only looking at 3’s but there are several upgrades on the 24 (it’s called the Highland). Adaptive suspension, HW4 being superior (especially if you intend on using FSD, both interior and exterior refresh/upgrade that I feel are pretty substantial. I would say get a lower model 24 that fits your budget. But I’m new to this. So I hope you get more help. Don’t go by my limited knowledge. That being said. It’s F’n sweet!

The adaptive damping on the Model 3 Performance is solid. The handling is very, very good - especially at its price point. The bigger issues if you track the car are the brakes and battery heat management.
