New Tesla Owners

Now that autosteer is not available and you just bought a tesla that used to have autosteer, are you more or less likely to subscribe to fsd? Are you more or less likely to buy another tesla in the future? Or, too soon to tell with any of this?

I transferred my FSD. Probably won’t buy another one unless I can transfer again.

Once they remove autosteer in Europe, I’d probably switch to Polestar or Rivian (if they ever expand to EU). I only use autopilot on long journeys, which happens maximum once a month and I am not paying a 100 euros for FSD that I don’t need and a basic autopilot feature that all the other car manufacturers provide for free.

Can't you just buy the S3xy commander?

WEZANGO 2026-02-17 10:55

How is that gonna enable a feature that was removed from a car?

I've had my Model 3 since August and I've never used Autosteer. I've been subscribed to FSD since day 1 and use it more than 90% of the time.

MoeCipo 2026-02-17 11:42

Ah ok, sorry, thought this is possible.

Blazah 2026-02-17 12:28

if you really want auto steer for 1000 bucks, look at comma.ai

I’ve also never used autosteer. Even on gas cars it just seemed like it does too little to bother learning and toggling. But that’s bc my drives are mainly local routes w short highway trips

Same here. Just wondering what new owners are thinking.

FWIW, I just took delivery of a new X last night and it still had "Auto Steer (Beta)" as an option between Adaptive Cruise Control and FSD. Not sure if that is an X-specific thing.

I wish Tesla would allow people to pay for multiple months at a time. I hate monthly bills

TengokuIkari 2026-02-17 13:46

I don't use auto steer hardly ever. Regular cruise control is used daily.

I think they have a 1 yr subscription for $999

Malacasts 2026-02-17 16:10

This. If I can't transfer I won't buy another Tesla in 4-8 years

One of the main reasons I purchased a new Tesla (2026 Model Y) was for FSD. In my test drives it worked shockingly well and I can't imagine owning a newer HW4 vehicle in an area with generally good weather and congested but modern road infrastructure (so. calif. in my case) without subscribing to FSD (and yes, others' situations will be different). I've been using is 90+% since delivery. I started on 13.2.9 and was recently upgraded to [14.2.2.5](http://14.2.2.5), which solved a few issues including hesitancy around a stop sign in my neighborhood that is partially obscured by overgrown plants. I can absolutely, 110% understand the visceral frustration of people who felt like Tesla moved their cheese when stopping outright purchases or limiting the usefulness of the car for people who don't desire to pay for FSD. However, for a new owner just getting started, FSD is the way. It's like living in the future. Just today traffic lights were out in an area of my commute and FSD handled the situation flawlessly, including recognizing a temporary stop sign that had been placed between the two lanes (and not crashing into it of course). I think Tesla is sensible to consolidate their efforts around making the FSD experience great. FSD with no destination set also works quite a bit like cruise control if you like just using it on the freeway...it will maintain speed and lane, and you can turn it off as soon as you exit and want to 'drive'. So I don't really think of these as discrete features like I would have if I had been a longtime owner without FSD I suppose. Of course I would rather not be $100 poorer each month. But assuming they continue updating it, I can understand why they view it as a service instead of a onetime purchase. Already considering my second Tesla because my wife is constantly borrowing mine for kid sport driving. :)

i just bought my first tesla and it has enhanced autopilot. I tried it, but i dont understand the appeal at all. Will not be using it

FerN_RSA 2026-02-17 20:53

No I am not more likely for FSD. I am more likely to not buy a Tesla again though. I am not a big fan of taking things away that you already had. But I guess they have done that before a few times, but this feels a bit bigger to me.

HeronOrganic3727 2026-02-17 21:03

They do not

Standard_Till_2451 2026-02-18 21:50

You are right . I must have been thinking about premium connectivity

Adventurous-Hyena366 2026-02-19 03:18

Autosteer sucks. Nags every mile to touch the steering wheel. It's not really hands-free if you have to use your hands regularly.
