Goodbye model 3 after 234k miles

LeTs-Be- | 2026-02-17 03:28 | 1853 views

Just traded in my 2018 model 3 for a new model y. My last estimated range was about 240miles on a full charge.

Congratulations, what’d Tesla give you on the trade?

New_Tangelo4550 2026-02-17 03:41

What are the expense you had on the Tesla ( anything you need to replace on the car )

Tasty_Albatross_4004 2026-02-17 03:49

Also curious

LeTs-Be- 2026-02-17 04:02

Surprisingly was offered $8.5k with $500 loyalty

LeTs-Be- 2026-02-17 04:03

Ac compressor went out recently, repaired for $2.5k and had a weird supercharging error where I needed the contactors replaced for $700. Besides that no issues original battery and drive motors.

StrictInspector4076 2026-02-17 04:07

I have a 2018 m3 awd what do you recommend i do to get this much life out of it? Currently at 100k miles 250 range on a full battery

Southernboyj 2026-02-17 04:07

I woulda paid the $2k for FSD then transferred it.

unshiftedearth34 2026-02-17 04:08

I’m surprised you didn’t need to replace the front suspension. I had to do mine recently at 100k miles.

LeTs-Be- 2026-02-17 04:09

Honestly can’t give much advice I truly beat that car up it’s first 2 years supercharging all the time and constantly home charging to 100% since I got it. I think your biggest issues will be the ac compressor eventually and the absurd amount of tires the car eats through.

StrictInspector4076 2026-02-17 04:16

Thanks for the insight, I appreciate it. Do you think switching to 80% daily charging would still help battery longevity at this point? Also, do you have Autopilot? Mine doesn’t, and I’m debating if it’s actually worth it? especially for highway driving.

wstcstbro 2026-02-17 04:17

How much did that cost you?

Mbaby1989 2026-02-17 04:22

Just curious what made you decide to make the move to the Y?

drs7896 2026-02-17 04:26

Now that's the kind of mileage I like to see!

LeTs-Be- 2026-02-17 04:28

I had enhanced autopilot, I think it’s worth it for sure if you do a lot of highway driving. Depends on the 80% thing, if you’re constantly getting home under 20% charge just go ahead and charge to 100%. It’s not going to hurt the car since it’s not staying at 100% for days.

LeTs-Be- 2026-02-17 04:29

I needed a larger trunk and the possibility of towing for my job. Plus my wife ended up getting a M3P so if I ever missed my m3 I can always drive hers if needed.

LeTs-Be- 2026-02-17 04:31

I have full confidence the car still had another 100k miles in it.

rsg1234 2026-02-17 04:40

I’d be shocked if OP didn’t do this.

djk80 2026-02-17 04:40

That’s huge miles ! My 2018 had maybe 90k I got trade in from caravanna for 13.5 that I took. I the same of giving it up with where I feel like it had a lot left but enjoy the new ride a lot of quality of life improvements from the 2018

Argyrus777 2026-02-17 04:42

Dang all your repairs is less than a new BMW’s first repair invoice 😂

Dr_Beliz 2026-02-17 04:42

No repairs/replacement on the suspension?

BreakTheDebtChain 2026-02-17 04:44

Same! About to replace the entire suspension system on mine. Tesla quoted me 4.5k so I’m doing it myself. Just hit 111k miles on mine.

catpogo2 2026-02-17 04:46

You barely broke the car in!!!

S4vingRyan-sPr1v8 2026-02-17 04:46

this is the way 💪🏼

No_Purpose6384 2026-02-17 04:47

I agree! My 2018 Model 3 hit 185K when I traded it in. It still drove and felt like it did when new! I always felt the car could’ve done 500k miles no problem

dextroz 2026-02-17 04:53

240 miles from a maximum of how much originally?

Kraoten 2026-02-17 04:57

Wow that's a lot of miles! Can you share what sort of major service/repairs you may have done (if any)?

dnguyen823 2026-02-17 04:57

When did you change the tires like intervals? I’m seeing the tires will last to 50k miles on each set but not sure.

N_Sayed 2026-02-17 04:57

What kind of range loss did you see?

iSmile_ALot 2026-02-17 04:58

Did that come out of your pocket?

Gloomy-Reindeer8799 2026-02-17 05:00

200,000 miles is just a baby for Tesla.

yupimsure 2026-02-17 05:02

Nice! Gives my M3 2018 AWD and FSD @ 120K hope!

DavieJonesLockerrr 2026-02-17 05:04

Super charging all the times is bad?

camasonian 2026-02-17 05:09

How much battery range degradation did you experience after 234K miles? I need to find my daughter a new first car for commuting and I would have given you more than $8.5K in a nanosecond!

TowElectric 2026-02-17 05:12

At 100k miles it certainly would. No car covers suspension at 100k miles. Mine is at 130k and looks like it needs some moderate suspension work. But so do most cars at that age.

Ragnogrimmus 2026-02-17 05:16

Yes it would have come out of pocket. But if you were smart you would have upgraded your suspension with mountain pass performance. If applicable. They can get you adjustable shocks that lower or higher or you can opt for Tesla's new OEM+ shocks for the Model 3 and I am assuming the Y also. 1700.00 bucks in MA to get it done. I won't give the name out of the guy because I am not sure he is suppose to be advertising. I am not really sure, but if you go through mountain pass they can upgrade the stiffer pre 2023 Model 3 or pre 2025 Model Y with the best shocks. I am soooo happy I did it. My model 3 AWD LR is LEGIT now. It already was a good ride but those shocks from the highland OEM+ are night and day better. I am planning on keeping my Model 3 until something dies. It's such an awesome car. I know people love to hate but the Model 3 Highland is a very nice car. The Model Y has more features and probably better if your more than 6 ft tall. The warranty for Tesla is 120,000 miles for the battery or below 70% efficiency. Or 8 years whatever comes first. Everything else has a 60,000 mile warranty with an option for 75,000 miles if you want to buy the extended warranty for 2,500.00$ 8 years. My Model 3 had 1 issue might have been from an accident that someone sniped me in the middle of Boston... But not sure. The total cost came to 2700.00 for 2 control arms in the front and lower lateral links. Neither 1 of those is a safety issue they are just noisy. So I would have basically broke even on the extended warranty or saved 200.00$ However since that guy sniped my car, I didn't think buying an extended warranty was smart. It was no big deal either way. That guy who sniped my brand new Model 3 in like April of 2023 ran a bill of 16,000.00$ a brand new car under 20,000 miles needs to be repaired to its original factory condition. The insurance would only pay 14,200 so the guy at Tesla gave me a deal and charged me 15k if I got in there on the day he offered. So... fun facts. The Model 3 turned out to be a big hit.

Jazzlike-Okra-5399 2026-02-17 05:22

So mine still has 130k miles left

earnestlikehemingway 2026-02-17 05:23

I’m also 2018 with only 80k and FSD. I did make them put HW 3 on the car though.

tyber92 2026-02-17 05:27

I also have a 2018 LRDM. I believe the original quoted range was 310 miles, but that was under the old EPA testing.

DameLasNalgas 2026-02-17 05:41

How much did you pay?

Loud-Way3333 2026-02-17 05:59

OP: Oh shit.

tbonechiggins 2026-02-17 05:59

I also had that weird contactor issue.

x3nhydr4lutr1sx 2026-02-17 06:00

More important is finish charging by 8 am. That way, it's only at 80% charge for 30 minutes each day.

HypnotizedGenius 2026-02-17 06:19

How did the AC compressor go out?

czardmitri 2026-02-17 06:24

Uh, what?

Dougb756 2026-02-17 06:43

Me too lol

One_Repeat_6614 2026-02-17 06:48

Never had to replace suspension items?

groshreez 2026-02-17 06:58

I've had my 2016 BMW M235i for 7 years and have never been left stranded nor had any unscheduled repairs done. When should I expect the first repair invoice?

MisterBumpingston 2026-02-17 07:06

You might as well retrofit the newest Highland/Juniper suspension.

MisterBumpingston 2026-02-17 07:07

Sniped?

TrappedElevator 2026-02-17 07:14

Could you elaborate on how to do this? Would Tesla handle it, or do we need to consult a mechanic shop?

MisterBumpingston 2026-02-17 07:29

Mechanic. Tesla won’t install components that don’t match your VIN, unfortunately, but you can either order the parts directly from Tesla using parts.tesla.com or epc.tesla.com (in the states you can order directly and have them shipped) or submit a Service request > Other and put in the part numbers in your request and agree there won’t be warranty. You’ll want front LH and RH damper assemblies and 2 rear dampers and coils that match your trim level (RWD or DM/LR). Alternatively some mechanics can order directly from Tesla and it might cost a little more. Should be a standard 4 hour job. May need wheel alignment.

-Cyber-Roadster 2026-02-17 07:52

This is inspiring, i am gonna drive my Juniper to the ground

m5james 2026-02-17 07:53

I spent that every 3 months in fuel and maintenance in my X5M!!

cumaboardladies 2026-02-17 08:00

What have your scheduled repairs been? Normal maintenance is definitely more by a wide margin.

m5james 2026-02-17 08:04

It's an N55...rod bearings, 30FF, EWP and VANOS, etc will be knocking on your door soon enough. There's a reason why the wife got rid of her 535 for an MXP and I got an MSP to replace my X5M. Still a diehard BMW guy but only for the E30-E38. First you said unscheduled repairs and then you're waiting for your first invoice? Unscheduled and none at all could be $0 or $5000. Nevertheless, no need to be triggered...nobody tagged you directly but I'm sure BMW appreciates you gaslighting in their honor.

No-Transportation969 2026-02-17 08:04

Dudes handle checks out

drnicko18 2026-02-17 08:28

Someone’s gonna get a bargain model 3 and you’re going to enjoy a brand new model Y

rsxstock 2026-02-17 08:32

what did the app say your gas savings were?

Andurhil1986 2026-02-17 08:35

I don't understand, the anti-EV crowd has been telling me for years that when an EV hits 100k miles, the battery pack drops to zero miles of range, and will then cost $60k to replace! Same with the way solar panel output drops to zero watts at the 20 year mark. https://preview.redd.it/32dr4icqn0kg1.png?width=220&format=png&auto=webp&s=d8a7bdaae37a16e04a1f1025f775573d81db79cc

How was your charging

Manny637 2026-02-17 08:55

I’m almost at 100k with my 2022 model y and I hope I have the same longevity that your car had!

QUOTO2 2026-02-17 09:04

What kind of battery range were you getting at the end?

[deleted] 2026-02-17 09:28

Tyres after 46k miles MY AWD and 3\~ years.

Napolyon07 2026-02-17 09:34

All of these happened after warranty period ended?

TrappedElevator 2026-02-17 09:43

Thanks, I’ll save this. Could you guide me on how to find the part numbers? It would be for a 2022 Model 3 LR, and I believe the Highland suspension should fit. Also, roughly how much did it cost you?

MisterBumpingston 2026-02-17 10:00

I wouldn’t be able to give you the part numbers as they vary by country and there may be newer revisions. There are some posts here or over at Tesla Owners Club forums about the parts and process. You can find them yourself at the above links then select country then car model. I think 10 - Suspension > Suspension or dampers. In Australia it cost me AUD$1400 with tax for parts and $860 for install. I hear it’s ~USD$990 for parts. Install is $400-$600.

sorrowdemonica 2026-02-17 10:03

It has EAD still, that car’s worth its weight in gold 🤪

Kaiathebluenose 2026-02-17 10:15

How much depreciation was that? 50k?

Kaiathebluenose 2026-02-17 10:15

Yea but that’s an x5m…

lakerskb248 2026-02-17 10:18

You ain't lying. My first year in my BMW ran around 3k. 😭😭😭

Fuzzy_Club_1759 2026-02-17 10:29

Yes .. but in FL you might spend the same money in insurance for Tesla likeBMW for less comfort.

Fuzzy_Club_1759 2026-02-17 10:30

Wait what 😳.. That seems too good to be true kind of deal. Good 👍🏽

ak_tyler 2026-02-17 10:41

The transmission in my truck is going out and it’s going to be around 7k……. I really wish i could get another Tesla for myself but i need a truck for my job. My wife has a MYL

joel1618 2026-02-17 10:45

Big oil has been spinning fud for yearssss

LeTs-Be- 2026-02-17 10:46

Tires only lasted 30k miles for me

LeTs-Be- 2026-02-17 10:48

Car had 290 when I picked it up, last I checked it was around 240 on a full charge.

Nice-Necessary-1547 2026-02-17 10:52

Squeezing noise? If so often that can often be fixed with grease. Not by Tesla who just replace the parts.

oureux 2026-02-17 10:56

I have the same model but it’s only at 40k miles

ayn_rando 2026-02-17 11:05

Nice! mine is a 15’ model S 85. 127K miles battery gets to 185 mile charge at 80% with about 150 mile usable mileage in real life driving. If I charge it to 100%, I get 220 miles but it’smore like 200 drivable miles. Only expense was 2.5k for AC repair and brakes at 100k miles… car will chew through tires so you have to find a tire with an extra hard compound to last a bit longer. All other repairs were under warranty and I could probably build a separate car from the amount of small repairs made. Car is rock solid now and I don’t intend to trade it in until battery goes… maybe I will even repair and continue driving it I like it so much.

Dry_Helicopter327 2026-02-17 11:15

Part numbers are in the Tesla EPC and mentioned in this forum several times

megacewl 2026-02-17 11:36

You managed to say a lot yet nothing at the same time

[deleted] 2026-02-17 11:36

That’s awesome! I am far more worried about the long term reliability of my F150 and Jetta than I ever would be with a Tesla. All these EV haters don’t understand the basics of engineering. More moving parts = more shit to fail!

herohonda777 2026-02-17 11:39

Wow man

BigTrucker2020 2026-02-17 11:41

Why you getting rid of it??

goingfourtheone 2026-02-17 11:45

The what tires do you recommend?

goingfourtheone 2026-02-17 11:45

Same

HZLeyedValkyrie 2026-02-17 11:53

We ate through tires and oil, we had an x3m comp. Never again. Was a hoot to drive but I prefer my cars to drive me around these days.

Away-Scar7754 2026-02-17 12:19

Still good range for a battery that old and with that many miles on it. I’ve got a ‘25 M3 RWD LR with 7,100 miles. I’ve got a long way to go.

RealEarthy 2026-02-17 12:23

Damn did they at least spit on it first? Or just went in dry?

LeTs-Be- 2026-02-17 12:45

About 50miles lost it used to get 290miles fully charged and at the end was around 240.

LeTs-Be- 2026-02-17 12:46

Opposite actually, lots of super charging and a ton of level 2 charging to 100%

LeTs-Be- 2026-02-17 12:47

Needed the extra room a model y has, trying to fit a guerilla ladder into a model 3 is possible but gets annoying.

LeTs-Be- 2026-02-17 12:48

Would have driven it to the ground if I didn’t need that extra space

BigTrucker2020 2026-02-17 12:49

Ok! I have a M3P but the wife would like a Y because it sits up a little higher than the 3 but I really like an S lol

Away-Scar7754 2026-02-17 12:55

Bonus that your wife has an M3P for this times when you need a sports sedan fix

ApprehensiveTap5258 2026-02-17 13:00

It's a new color

beezlythagod 2026-02-17 13:12

I have a 2018 midrange model 3 nearly at 150k miles

Curtnorth 2026-02-17 13:14

It's great to see these kinds of numbers thanks for sharing the good news on your M3, awesome!

raleel 2026-02-17 13:15

So not even 20%. 17% in fact. Thats impressive.

PotatoCooks 2026-02-17 13:16

The battery lasted almost 250k miles??? Do you have winters or are you in sunny weather all year

Outlawplayer210 2026-02-17 13:34

How did you charge it? Was to 80% or did you always charge it to 100? I’m hoping to get that many miles out of mine it’s a used model 3 standard range plus with 57k miles, I only use it for work and home and that’s only 32 miles total 4 days a week.

Few-Wolverine-7283 2026-02-17 13:34

I dont think Model 3 LR ever cost 58k.

Impossible-Mango9658 2026-02-17 13:36

Did you not see the mileage? Compare any similar bwm/or Mercedes with that mileage and year and you’d be getting about the same value

sherlocknoir 2026-02-17 13:38

This is awesome. It's crazy to me how many people buy these cars, and drive them so little. Even crazier how often they trade for a newer one. My entire justification for buying an EV is that I drive so much, I was literally throwing money away paying for gas. My justification for buying a second EV.. is that I drove the first one so much, it now no longer has any warranty coverage remaining and Im not paying for an extended warranty. I drive about 2,000 miles every month.

Kaiathebluenose 2026-02-17 13:40

it was a question

Kaiathebluenose 2026-02-17 13:41

with FSD yes it would have been close to that. the performance used to be like 70k

BuddyBing 2026-02-17 13:42

I usually stop talking about depreciation after a car goes over the 150k mile mark...

Kaiathebluenose 2026-02-17 13:47

thats awesome

floppypancakes4u 2026-02-17 13:56

Congrats! I want to take advantage of their latest offer, but I refuse to trade it in unless they transfer my FSD.... which they said they aren't doing ever again. Otherwise, I'd pull the trigger today. 🥲

rideincircles 2026-02-17 13:59

$49k $+$5k EAP + $2k FSD = $57k for LR RWD in 2018. -7500 tax credit and $12k down payment would be 720 shares of Tesla stock now. ($250 share x 15/1 split)

LeTs-Be- 2026-02-17 14:02

Always to 100%

Few-Wolverine-7283 2026-02-17 14:09

Cool let me drive my Tesla stock to work. Let's make sure you also capture the time periods where you buy a stock and the value goes down by 90%

Tasty_Action5073 2026-02-17 14:09

Well done. Now you are a person I would really like to hear from. I see you say that your mileage was pretty decent at the end of its life. How were other costs you had to deal with?

WangtaWang 2026-02-17 14:10

Any major issues during your ownership?

FranSure 2026-02-17 14:14

![gif](giphy|TJBbXQooivUNq)

unshiftedearth34 2026-02-17 14:18

Yes but not in the upper ball joint like it usually is. In my case it was the lower lateral and compliance control arms. Replaced them both myself and saved me $800 at the service center

kkramer1990 2026-02-17 14:22

My 2018 P3D is at 138k but thank goodness I still have free supercharging for all the trips over the years. Nice work on the mileage

LeTs-Be- 2026-02-17 14:38

Honestly by far one of the cheapest cars to own. My most expensive repair was the ac compressor $2.5k last Novemeber. Tires unfortunately were a yearly replacement for me at 30k miles each set.

Tasty_Action5073 2026-02-17 14:42

That’s very helpful. Do wheel wear out more quickly than ICE cars.

Urban_Junkie 2026-02-17 14:46

What symptoms did you have? I’m at 101,000miles on my 22 MYP.

shiestyencounter 2026-02-17 14:50

I’ve never seen a Tesla with so many miles

jerryweezer 2026-02-17 14:51

Right? Like how many cars are worth over 10k with 150k? Very few. You got your money worth at that point!

N_Sayed 2026-02-17 15:06

Thanks, when I got my MYP 22’ I had 268 and now 249. I have 65k on it. I will keep driving till 150k or more thanks to you.

LeTs-Be- 2026-02-17 15:08

For sure, I used to have a 19 charger RT and drove it to 120k miles only changed the tires twice on that.

Tasty_Action5073 2026-02-17 15:19

Yeah, that was my experience with cars I owned, even longer than that since they were just regular cars. Thank you for the feedback. 🧡

Sad_Plum6169 2026-02-17 15:23

It lived up to its long range name

Specific-Data-377 2026-02-17 15:33

Yes mine was 55k no changes other than towing package

unshiftedearth34 2026-02-17 15:33

$100 because I bought the parts through a third party and replaced it myself. The service center was greedy so I said f that.

unshiftedearth34 2026-02-17 15:34

Yup, if you can do it yourself. Saves you a boat load of money. 4.5 is pretty high to me, what did they quote you for?

unshiftedearth34 2026-02-17 15:34

Yes but I replaced it myself because the service center is greedy

unshiftedearth34 2026-02-17 15:35

Creaking sound every time you turned the wheel or went over a dip and the suspension compressed. The bushings on the control arms were shot.

unshiftedearth34 2026-02-17 15:35

$100 for parts through a third party and replacement I did myself

Kenni556 2026-02-17 15:35

After 234,689 has it giving you any problems?

j_d_q 2026-02-17 15:38

What kind of maintenance did you do over all that road time?

Das_KV 2026-02-17 15:40

>Besides that no issues original battery and drive motors. This is what I like to read! I am hoping to see at least 200k miles out of my MYP.

automattic3 2026-02-17 15:49

I had to replace a bunch of control arms at 77k miles. I heard the front lower control arms and lateral arms tend to go every 60k miles

travlr2010 2026-02-17 15:51

You are allowed to sleep sometimes, you know. You don't have to drive 24/7.

kysourmash 2026-02-17 15:56

Dang!

exorthderp 2026-02-17 16:10

234k is wild. I’m only at 49k on my 2019

biggestbluee 2026-02-17 16:12

Yes. Please tell!

Viott 2026-02-17 16:23

How did you charge it? Supercharger or AC?

Sea-Particular-140 2026-02-17 16:27

What kind of maintenance did you do on the car?

Forsaken_Opening_835 2026-02-17 16:28

I literally do the math in my head like this.

bluecado 2026-02-17 16:29

I have a similar model, but I haven’t been keeping up with the FSD discussion. Why is this smart? Should I buy it even though I don’t think it’s worth $2k?

LemonadeStandTech 2026-02-17 16:32

long range indeed

Southernboyj 2026-02-17 16:34

You can’t buy it anymore as of 2/14.

IDKmannn001 2026-02-17 16:52

Did you trade it in for another Tesla?

ussrini99 2026-02-17 16:52

is the $500 loyalty even if you sell it outside

Significant_Young_74 2026-02-17 16:54

They won’t transfer FSD now? Wth?

OkTechnician4285 2026-02-17 16:58

Wow 😮

Firebird5488 2026-02-17 17:00

Yes it just means you are a Tesla owner. You don’t even need to trade the old car in.

ussrini99 2026-02-17 17:01

Okay, Yes I own MY

30sec2midknight 2026-02-17 17:01

Dang and I thought I had a lot of miles on mine at 169k lol This car will last me another 2-3 years easily then

TurnoverRoutine7539 2026-02-17 17:02

Nice!

floppypancakes4u 2026-02-17 17:07

I presume not. Few. Months back they had a promotion where you could transfer your FSD to a new trade in, but they said it was the last time theyre doing it. That's how I understood it at least.

Significant_Young_74 2026-02-17 17:09

Ah. Corporate greed strikes again. Shame.

Congenial-Curmudgeon 2026-02-17 17:13

The S production is being discontinued, but the new Y with FSD is quite impressive.

spaceman_sloth 2026-02-17 17:14

my 2019 just hit 55k, so this makes me feel good

floppypancakes4u 2026-02-17 17:14

Yeeee.. still gonna email them and ask. Never hurts.

Even-Definition 2026-02-17 17:14

How many times has the compressor gone out in the full lifespan? Any suspension stuff that went wrong? I have a 2019 M3 at 60k miles and at 70k a bunch of suspension issues cropped up...

adspendagency 2026-02-17 17:18

thank you for your service

Significant_Young_74 2026-02-17 17:21

Google says you got until March 31, 2026 to transfer FSD to a new Tesla vehicle.

floppypancakes4u 2026-02-17 17:22

Eyyy Yoooo

nerveneck 2026-02-17 17:27

I have a model y at 210k, replaced 1 AC compressor ($3000), and tires. That's all

nerveneck 2026-02-17 17:28

I think the batteries can hit like 1 million miles or something ridiculous while still being daily drivable. They throw out the 300k estimate for replacement because of random failures, not degradation

MavinMarv 2026-02-17 17:29

Wait when you trade in to Tesla do they offer FSD for $2k?

Southernboyj 2026-02-17 17:30

No… prior to 2/14 Tesla allowed FSD transfers. If you have EAP, you can upgrade to FSD for $2k. Therefore you could upgrade your current car for $2k, then immediately transfer it to your new car.

gwwwhhhaaattt 2026-02-17 17:33

My seats have wear on it (front driver side). Did that ever happen with you?

JanoSicek 2026-02-17 17:35

My 7 year old Model 3 had 70000 miles and Tesla offered 7k!!! (I sold privately for 16k)

Sea-Particular-140 2026-02-17 17:36

Did you ever get your brakes checked and other regular checkups?

sjurat 2026-02-17 17:40

I have 190k (2013/14 - model S - 85). Replaced the battery @ 135k. Max charge is approx 245. Free Super Charging. We looked at selling - however similar models are only getting $4-6k - which is less than what you would get scraping the battery and body (aluminum). The insurance was about 2k/yr - but I now store it during the winter (Nov-Mar in Wisconsin) - so now it’s down to 800ish. Has anyone here been able to get a premium when selling a Tesla with a relatively young replacement battery?

Illustrious_Rich_311 2026-02-17 17:43

Would Carvana or one of those places have offered more? Tesla usually lowballs I feel like.

sjurat 2026-02-17 17:44

Ditto - now that I’m not using it during the winter - the bald tires are kinda fun! Has anyone found a tire brand/model that provides a longer life then what Tesla recommends?

BigTrucker2020 2026-02-17 17:46

My 3 FSD is awesome and all the other ones I’ve drove are incredible too. Tesla is so much fun to drive.

pizza-woman 2026-02-17 17:53

i’m considering buying a tesla model 3 with roughly 120.000km, does someone thinks it’s a good deal and i can still drive a car to 300/400.000km? i’m new to the community, looking for opinions

Hoschton_Dawg 2026-02-17 18:07

I’ve got 142k miles on mine. Retired now so I only drive 500-600 miles a month typically. Will likely keep it for quite a while.

DifferentMango7793 2026-02-17 18:10

How much battery left after 234k miles?

JBare13VA 2026-02-17 18:13

My '18 Mid is approaching 100k and so far the only maintenance has been screen replace (free), 12v battery replace (free), 2 sets of tires (probably approaching a 3rd in a few months) and in cabin filter (2x maybe?). Started around 260 miles, full charge now is about 212 I think. Love EAP for my NoVA traffic commute, works well on 66

Rude-Efficiency-964 2026-02-17 18:18

Just clocked 130k miles on my 23’ M3LR. Asked for a trade offer for shits n giggles and they offerred 13.3k. 8500 is wild!

Virtual_Net1520 2026-02-17 18:23

I think Elon once said these cars can go 1M miles. Of course, we need batteries that last.

sstdk 2026-02-17 18:24

I own a 2019 SR+ with 150000 km on the clock. Still drives like new, no errors or issues after the 80k base warranty expired years ago. Some things replaced under warranty such as PTC heater, 12v battery, control arms. Battery health at 82%. Keeping it indefinitely is my plan.

kumarbi_knasher 2026-02-17 18:38

Great to see this. Hopefully you will be be able to drive your new MY for longer.

Lost_Highway_1070 2026-02-17 18:43

How much did they pay you for old model. Or what did as your purchase value vs today’s value

Unsungheroist 2026-02-17 18:46

Ok I think you win. Most I ever seen was 160k

Plot-twist-time 2026-02-17 18:51

Yeah I made them put HW 5 on mine

UnderdevelopedFurry 2026-02-17 19:05

Contactors for $700 is robbery but overall low maintenance cost over the lifespan

1dayday 2026-02-17 19:34

That is Impressive. Looking fwd to running similar for my model S

bambino646 2026-02-17 19:41

I’m upgrading from a 2018 Model 3 to a Model Y as well. I used to think I had put too many miles on mine, but it’s a Long Range RWD with 170k miles and still going strong. I’m actually keeping it because I keep seeing these cars hit 200k+ miles without major issues.

joebleezie 2026-02-17 19:55

How is the battery at this point?

gamingbro697 2026-02-17 20:03

22.5% capacity loss for those wondering

stoner_222 2026-02-17 20:20

Reliable commuter, a great point A to B car.

CareerRejection 2026-02-17 20:22

That's ICE car type mileages. You'd be luck to get 40k out of it.

iconboy 2026-02-17 20:32

Do you think the extended warranty that we pay extra for once it ends ($88 CAD) Would have covered it? I'm debating keeping it (I have a 24 MY) With 81000 km.

GoSh4rks 2026-02-17 21:28

Forgot to add paint, interior color, and wheels.

get-a-mac 2026-02-17 21:38

The DOW is $5,000!

Rebel2 2026-02-17 22:01

Did you ever do a battery coolant change or the motor oil change? Mine is a 2019 at 200k km, I am wondering if I need to do that.

LoadAccomplished1397 2026-02-17 22:04

I have a 2018 m3 awd long range too, how many miles can you get for 90% to 20%?

_Hemi_ 2026-02-17 22:11

![gif](giphy|MRLc0oJPeTcIw)

Neat-Effective8379 2026-02-17 22:23

You're not wrong. I had a $8300 bill within the first month of owning my z4 lol Fought and got it covered at least

Schnitzhole 2026-02-17 22:26

Dan thats awesome. Thats like the yearly maintenance cost on both of my ICE cars i had

word-dragon 2026-02-17 22:42

Elons been known to be optimistic in his predictions. lol.

Quin1617 2026-02-17 22:48

To be fair, he said they were *designed* to last a million miles. Which is great obviously, but human design is inherently imperfect.

LonelyNegotiation991 2026-02-17 22:54

i paid 63k for m3p. 2021. no FED tax credit but didn’t pay NJ sales tax. no FSD

LonelyNegotiation991 2026-02-17 22:58

do they DO wheel alignments. i thought teslas didn’t have that type of adjustment

jritchie70 2026-02-17 23:25

Will there ever be an affordable replacement HV battery pack for the M3 so we could get to 300k+ total miles with close to full range?

Freeloafer 2026-02-17 23:32

I still have 100.000 miles to hit your numbers :)

MisterBumpingston 2026-02-17 23:49

They need wheel alignments just like every car, but they lack camber adjustments. I don’t know how common those are.

4uap13l 2026-02-18 00:31

What range were u getting?

letsbuildbikelanes 2026-02-18 00:42

Holy cow 1k a month on maintenance 🤯

m5james 2026-02-18 01:03

* and fuel. 700+/- HP, 11MPG, spraying meth then throw in maintenance...it was getting ridiculous, all while being a ticking time bomb since S63's don't have the best rep for rod bearings either. It was a love/hate relationship but my MXP has been an amazing replacement...189k currently and I've only had to do like $600 in maintenance while only costing like $150+/- a month to charge it while still doing the same 30k a year average. It was a no brainer.

LeTs-Be- 2026-02-18 01:13

Actually only pay $234 for my 26 my awd and 24 m3P

LeTs-Be- 2026-02-18 01:14

No clue, Ac stopped working and in these cars when Ac compressor goes out the whole car shuts down

LeTs-Be- 2026-02-18 01:14

Yep all out of pocket

LeTs-Be- 2026-02-18 01:15

Sunny central Florida

LeTs-Be- 2026-02-18 01:16

One time in Novemeber, never had a single suspension problem. Car still drove smooth and never had a motor problem.

LeTs-Be- 2026-02-18 01:17

Virtually zero, still had original brakes. Lots of windshield washer refills and tires though.

LeTs-Be- 2026-02-18 01:18

Oof

New_Tangelo4550 2026-02-18 01:18

Waoo that’s great pretty much you spend that much on oil and break change lol

LeTs-Be- 2026-02-18 01:18

Nope every other place was offering 4k

LeTs-Be- 2026-02-18 01:19

I purchased at 51k so pretty rough but I did get my money’s worth

Le_Dino_de_4skn 2026-02-18 01:37

He said the batteries could last 1M miles

ayn_rando 2026-02-18 01:44

I tried finding cheaper tires because the situation was getting silly. I found a brand called Blackhawk that has and UHP tire that is very hard and resilient. it’s also super cheap compared to what I was paying for Pirellis

East_Yellow8389 2026-02-18 01:54

Elon would try and sell us bridges if he could. But not just once he will keep trying to sell the same stupid bridge. Keeps promising level 5 fsd over and over again lol. Keeps promising new dates for the roadster lol. I'm glad he has finally stopped making predictions about Mars and has now switched to having a moon base lol.

kkiran 2026-02-18 02:18

Oh man, for $8.5K, I would keep it for fun. Does Turo take high mileage vehicles?!

drknight09 2026-02-18 02:22

How much did you get for the trade in?

MiangMiang 2026-02-18 03:22

Could u share how much range u left for a full charge?

KountZero 2026-02-18 03:32

Not anymore. They used to offered crazy high prices for Tesla's and that's why they are going to bankrupt lol

KountZero 2026-02-18 03:33

My M3 LR cost 61k OTD in 2018, with no FSD. That's what you get for being early adopters.

KountZero 2026-02-18 03:34

My M3 LR cost 61k OTD in 2018, with no FSD. That's what you get for being early adopters.

noob_birb 2026-02-18 03:47

What type of maintenance did you do for your car?

ThaBlkBat 2026-02-18 03:48

I paid 58K for my 2018 M3LR with the tax and license. Mine accidently came with EAP that I was not charged for and one night I got a notification that if I act before midnight I can get FSD for 3K and I did.

Is-that-babaganoosh 2026-02-18 03:48

That’s so awesome! I have friends and family that have their original model S from 2012

Virtual_Net1520 2026-02-18 04:05

Lies. After 8 years and about 39k miles, I only have 80% of the original capacity. I guess it can last 1M miles if I charge every 10mi toward the end.

Virtual_Net1520 2026-02-18 04:08

Just out of curiosity, is it an M3P? What is your battery capacity now?

Virtual_Net1520 2026-02-18 04:10

Did you look into replacing the battery and going for another few years?

Mission207 2026-02-18 04:16

If you like that my 2021 M3LR has 238,410 miles on it. Still kicking. Haven't changed the brake pads yet either. ETA: bought it new in June 2021

gmatocha 2026-02-18 04:26

I think it was the batteries he was referring to. It's the rest of the car (plastic gets brittle, seals rot, bushings crack, capacitors leak, etc) that tend to start failing after 10 years or so.

gmatocha 2026-02-18 04:35

BMWs are for people that: 1: Short term lease then return 2: Have so much money that anything as trivial as a four figure repair bill doesn't even register 3: are enthusiasts that love how they drive but do their own work.

gmatocha 2026-02-18 04:38

Don't all these start leaking at oil filter body gasket or valve cover gasket around 40k?

groshreez 2026-02-18 05:39

OFHG supposedly around 60k, I think valve cover gasket is closer to 100k. I replaced the OFHG gaskets myself for about $100.

polarfly49 2026-02-18 05:58

Why do you drive so much?

Napolyon07 2026-02-18 06:24

Still not too expensive when you compare with others brands and other brands maintenance frequency. But money is money and its was spent 😅

nerveneck 2026-02-18 07:41

Squealers haven’t started yet so I know they still have life in them. I have a 19’ S, 21’ 3, 22’ Y, 23’ Y. Model S had halfshafts and brakes replaced @ 140k miles. Model 3 has had no maintenance but control arms are showing wear ~110k miles. 22’ Y has had the compressor replaced at ~120k. 23’ Y had the compressor replaced at ~60k miles. Apparently compressors on the MY go bad at 60k pretty regularly according to my service center.

ChargeAppropriate644 2026-02-18 10:57

Wow that ac compressor is expensive.

BreakTheDebtChain 2026-02-18 11:41

They quoted me for upper and lower control arms and the pair of struts, plus the alignment. I found a complete kit with rear suspension too for 1,900. Just gonna replace it all and hope to get another 111k miles on it 🤞🏾

FunCutlet67 2026-02-18 11:43

How does that hold against time though? For example, I drive the national average, which is like 12k miles a year. Can I expect anything close to those numbers?

earnestlikehemingway 2026-02-18 11:48

M3 Dual Motor , 200 or a bit more at 80%, don’t know about 100 percent I never have charged it to 100 percent . I also have only used at home chargers and used super chargers maybe once or twice.

lucaprinaorg 2026-02-18 11:55

You mean...gallons and gallons of refills!!!! That's where I am...but you know...healthy eyes need to be rehydrated...

unshiftedearth34 2026-02-18 12:47

That’s the way. The upper control arms have a service bulletin they said so it should only be about $250 for parts and labor. The lower would be another 900 with 275 for an alignment. The service center is ridiculous.

Mission207 2026-02-18 12:53

I ask myself the same exact question. My wife and I live in BFE and I work forever away. We want to move closer to work but housing is stupid expensive currently so I'm kind of just stuck with a 2 hour long 87 mile one direction drive. :( On the plus side I'm spending 1/3 the cost of gas so it has some good benefit!

Direct_Address9505 2026-02-18 13:30

Hold on, your compressor don’t even go out? I just replaced the compressor and hose in my Model Y. 4300 bucks later!!

chocolatefanblade 2026-02-18 14:52

How many batteries did it go through?

word-dragon 2026-02-18 15:18

Well, maybe tunnels instead of bridges. I think now that he has enough money to buy the earth, he doesn’t feel like he needs to own mars.

Low-Ad4420 2026-02-18 16:24

What's the health status of the battery pack?

polarfly49 2026-02-18 17:41

That's incredible. In so many ways. I assume you have FSD.

b18crx4 2026-02-18 18:06

How is your range at 80% or a full charge now? That's great to hear because I also have a 2021 LR AWD.

Ssago96 2026-02-18 19:46

What was your charging habbit?

Special-Ad-6555 2026-02-18 20:58

Farewell to 5YJ3E1EBXJF099556, she obviously served you well!

carmeloA007 2026-02-18 23:59

Original battery and motors?

Mission207 2026-02-19 00:31

Yeah the drive is killer. Absolutely yes I have FSD. But it's a love hate relationship. Does a lot great. Does a lot of dumb shit. I have 2 profiles set. One FSD and one AP. I hate that FSD will casually drop speed like 10 under the limit in heavy traffic or absolutely slice right in front of someone in the other lane to either make way for traffic or to get in the left lane to do that shit semis do where they go 1mph faster than the traffic they are overtaking. When it does that I give it a solid screw you to the feedback and swap profiles to standard AP where it will hold my lane and speed. But the drawback is it doesn't navigate and is squirrely in some places. a few updates back they broke FSD and now it refuses to turn into my road. It will fling the wheel back and forth and then bail headed towards the ditch. Ask me how I found that one out... All in all FSD is better at handling majority of driving in my opinion. In the same breath it's totally still beta. Tesla should never have removed AP.

Mission207 2026-02-19 00:44

https://preview.redd.it/a3rmg7itlckg1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=383db84abeb91f8144b92373004d8962305b3b35 I'm probably an idiot for this but with the amount of driving I do I just charge to 100. SOC never really sits at 100 for long. Drop to 85 on the weekend. I abuse my poor baby. I deal with lithium batteries in model planes so I'm aware I most likely shortened the life a bit but I'm at 1140 charge cycles. No superchargers along my path to and from work. I run errands as well after work pretty frequently. Also if the graph is right I'm above fleet average. I intend to ride it till it dies. Then I'll just get a replacement pack if it doesn't cost a kidney. My goal is to reach over 500k.

Mission207 2026-02-19 00:46

Did you buy yours new?

b18crx4 2026-02-19 01:01

That is pretty reassuring for me, I charge to 80% as I drive anywhere from 100 km a day of upwards of 250 km during the week. I really appreciate your reply, I was planning to keep the car for about 3 years and potentially get into a model S plaid but we'll see what happens. I am curious if we could potentially have aftermarket support where we get longer lasting sodium or the crystal style batteries. The future should be interesting 🙂

Glad I could help! If you don't have it check out tessie. I really like the stats it gives. Should have been on the tesla app from the beginning but I suppose not everyone is interested in all the statistics on their cars. Lol

No-Interaction-8284 2026-02-19 04:11

If you live in a wetter climate, change all the air filters once a year

Fuzzy_Club_1759 2026-02-19 12:06

In Fl per month ?

LeTs-Be- 2026-02-19 12:06

Yes

5kvground 2026-02-19 14:52

That’s really good! My model 2019 M3 is at 185 single motor 60k miles. Any major issues? I had to replace control arms, low suspension and bearings, cracked back window (stress crack defect covered under warranty) , and bubble on corner of my screen. Most painful was the suspension like $2300 which I felt was a defect.

fskhalsa 2026-02-19 15:20

Oh damn, that’s a good idea!! I’ve always hated that there wasn’t just a normal cruise control option, if you didn’t want FSD for some reason. Does it let you switch back and forth without going into park?

fskhalsa 2026-02-19 15:22

Following for updates… Come back and let us know when you hit 300/400/500k! 😃 If you would :)

fskhalsa 2026-02-19 15:29

Oh neat! What are the big advantages of this, over original stock? I’ve been thinking I’d upgrade my ‘21 MY suspension at some point - although my plan was to grab one of the Unplugged Performance aftermarket kits, that add a couple inches to the ground clearance - since I like to take my car off for camping/hiking down rough, rocky roads.

Fuzzy_Club_1759 2026-02-19 15:38

Wow crazy.. This seems really good. Mind sharing insurance name and some basic insurance details.

That’s the definition of Long Range! Well done!

doihave2makeaname 2026-02-19 18:32

Curious as well

Pullshott 2026-02-19 18:33

How often did you replace tires ?

Mission207 2026-02-19 21:15

Hell yeah I will!

Mission207 2026-02-19 21:17

Yes it does. Seamless switch between profiles without the stupid necessity to park. FSD always active on one profile.

Obtur8GW 2026-02-19 21:29

Did you ever have the battery coolant replaced? Brake fluid replaced? And what about the differential oil?

Mission207 2026-02-19 22:05

I should have added, make sure you're in your profile before making a new one if you use easy entry. It copies your seat position so if you start in the profile you have FSD on then unless you adjust seat positions it shouldn't be noticeable when swapping back and forth. About the only thing that changes is the air conditioning.

Drive a Juniper and you’ll know - basically a more comfortable ride quality like a typical car while preserving some firmness for corners. They are Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) just like Koni Special Active, so high frequency ripples are filtered out. Retrofitting Juniper suspension is a good choice as it’s cheap (it’s half the price of MPP and UPP parts and the same as TEIN basic parts where I am) and gets you 80-90% of the benefits of a Juniper ride quality. I also chose Tesla to preserve my warranty (hope the technicians are not too observant). If you were going to upgrade to aftermarket anyway then it’s worth considering for budget reasons, but you won’t have additional height or any adjustability. Perhaps the UPP are higher quality and more durable. Probably better off road.

How many times did you replace your tires for 234k miles?

TowElectric 2026-02-20 00:57

I have a Model S

mhasten96 2026-02-20 04:24

Surprised you were able to sell it. I always look at Teslas when I'm doom scrolling marketplace and they're always listed 2+ months.

Southernboyj 2026-02-20 04:25

OP never replied. They def gave away a $6k software package for free on a $8k trade in lol

MassiveEmu6529 2026-02-20 05:02

amazing milage. great work

JanoSicek 2026-02-20 07:42

At first I put it 1k below all others on markeplace (market value was 18k) and got no messages. When I put it 2k below, I got 6 messages within 24 hours, 4 were not serious, and I got my sale.

Redache0 2026-02-20 08:15

Impressive mileage. How many batteries replaced?

jonhenshaw 2026-02-20 20:08

Goodyear ElectricDrive 2 finally solved my tire problem. They're the first tire that even comes close to the published tread life. They're also just great all around tires regarding sound and traction.

iSoLost 2026-02-21 00:21

What’s the trade in value?

iSoLost 2026-02-21 00:25

Wait til future quarter’s earning if FSD sale slop, there’ll be new promo

Vegetable-Basis7195 2026-02-21 01:53

SINHISTER 2026-02-21 02:20

Damn how was your trade in bro? Musta been like 5k

Comfortable_Can6220 2026-02-21 02:42

What happened to it?

Mundus09 2026-02-21 02:49

Incredible man! What was your battery health at? Did you keep it at 80% max charge limit?

Urban_Junkie 2026-02-21 03:56

Ok. Odd mine used to creak and stopped around 10k ago. lol. Probably not a good sign.

trying2renewable 2026-02-21 09:19

How much $$ you get for the trade in?

nerveneck 2026-02-21 18:49

my car has 150k miles, @ 0 miles it had 345 miles (at full charge) @ 140k miles it had 306 miles of range, now at 150k it has 304. If it continues at this pace (which it will only slow down) my car will have 274 miles of range after 300k. Oh and last note it’s 6 years old

lakerskb248 2026-02-22 23:29

Absolutely agree. Everyone I know who had a BMW does their own work.

jeswell 2026-02-23 20:23

I’ve found that the Model 3’s range feels different as the battery ages and as you dial in your charging routine. Hitting 240 miles on a 2018 pack is pretty solid for its age. The big win with the Model Y is the upgrade in cargo space and the option to stay with similar efficiency. Wishing you smooth miles with the new ride!

mayorbigdaddyspizza 2026-02-23 23:35

He answered earlier, $8500 + $500 loyalty.

kw_rc 2026-03-06 14:29

That's amazing! I'm curious how much did you get with that many miles?

SnooPeppers9847 2026-03-12 16:37

I don’t understand why solar panels can’t be built into the top glass of the vehicles to provide charging during the day! But then money can’t be made on the charging stations.
