If you’re not aware of black cars and how hot they get in the summer, I’d steer you away from black, unless you just like the color which black is nice. Black gets dirty quite easily, but so does stealth grey.

Black cars get dirty fast and will show every little scratch.

I might just be dumb when I say this, but if I just remember to turn the the ac a few minutes before I go in it’ll be fine right?

The paint quality on Tesla’s black cars tend to not be great, you can check out Colton from Out of Spec Detailing did a paint quality analysis on a Diamond Black Model Y and there were a lot of problems.
It’s especially noticeable when he turns the lights out and shines a light on it

Somewhat… the interior heats up a lot due to the glass top. The leather, screen, console and other things get uncomfortably hot in general.

I had a Mythos Black Audi S4 (same as Diamond black) and absolutely LOVED IT. The way the color changes under light is stunning. I love it so much that I have a MY perf in diamond black in order.
HOWEVER.... if you're not the kind of person who washes their car weekly probably it's not the best move.
IMO stealth grey will catch dust almost as much as black, I have a midnight silver model Y and gets dirty pretty easily. Quicksilver and while will cover dust better

Get the white interior. It looks amazing with the black exterior and negates a lot of the heat issues in the summer.

Unfortunately, I’m likely going with a standard, so I don’t get that choice

Just the usual black paint disadvantages of looking really great new and clean and quick to show dirt and water spots.
Quicksilver and ultra red have been better at not showing dirt imo.

I own a 2026 Model Y with a diamond black exterior and white interior. It’s the best combination I’ve ever had, and I don’t mind a little dirt on it. Just get it washed once a month, and it’ll look great.

Black cars show scratches very easily.

I'll never own a black car ever again. Sure, they look good when clean, but they scratch if you so much as sneeze on them.

(1) get hotter because it absorbs heat from the sun, instead of reflecting it like a lighter car would
(2) shows dirt a little more, so you have to keep cleaner

As someone who is dealing with weather in the 80's already (Texas) I appreciate lighter color cars as they are easier to keep cool.

Nothing beats the sparkle; even if 25/30 days in a month it doesn’t look like this 😆 my front is ppf’ed it’s way easier to clean than the back of the car.

I have a diamond black 3 and at delivery it was scratched in 8 different spots (scratches on the door and small ones on the bumpers). They buffed it out in the service center luckily but if it wasn’t fixable on the spot meaning they were deep, I was going to reject delivery and buy a different brand. So either their black paint quality is abysmal or inspections were skipped. Other than that, car looks pretty good when it’s clean.

I have the 2026 model y standard model with the diamond black paint. I absolutely love the way it sparkles.
I’ve put 4000 miles on the car after a month and the worst part is rock chips on the hood. I bought a touch-up paint pen and filled it in so you don’t even notice it anymore.
I have an unlimited car wash membership and wipe it dry after every wash because water streaks are very noticeable on the black paint. I’ve come to enjoy it and it’s like a 10 minute job.

A high quality black can look stunning but for some reason I don't like it on any of the Tesla models. Maybe on the S. I find white with black trim and wheels really classy. I love the ultra red that looks like burgundy.

They show any dirtiness immediately and vividly as well as scratches, which combined with Tesla's notoriously poor paint jobs is a double whammy for the ages.

Black will show dirt and swirling more easily (but a lot of people don’t care or notice these things). Car will be hotter, especially if you get black interior also

If you go to car washes and don't take care of the paint yourself you will swirl the hell out of the finish. Up to each individual if you actually care about that though.

Nothing beats black for appearance but the downsides are well known, it's hot, it only looks great if clean, and defects in the clearcoat like swirls stand out.
I've jumped off the white-gray-black color scale. Ultrared for me.
