Polestar 3 vs 2026 performance Model 3 vs 2026 Performance Model Y

I need help to understand the differences, my polestar 3 drives fantastic, much better than most EV’s I’ve tried. Even the polestar 2 with Ohlines Dampers was awesome ride. I’ve tried older performance Tesla model 3, but so much has changed for them. It’s that I’m ignorant about. I want to rid myself of the Polestar 3, it’s the software issues…. Fantastic drive, very smooth, it has air shocks than make the drive so smooth. I do drive aggressively and for that I’m worried that the drive of the new 2026 performance model 3 and y will still be much like the other models. Please help me know if I will not be making a mistake. I feel I will regret the ride handling of these performance Teslas. I’m strictly only interested in the handling in comparison. Thanks for any advice. I do plan a test drive, but they only have a model y performance to test. I have had many Volvos s90, 60, etc. but the polestar3. , much like the Y is, was my first suv style electric car.

Personally, I think the Model 3 handles better and is more efficient and responsive than the Y with it being an actual sports sedan. Although, both are plenty fast. The throttle response is one of the most satisfying things about them. And the P3 drives smoother overall. I think if you want to strike a balance, perhaps go with the M3. But if you want more comfort, ride height, better for families, and still want cargo space, then go with the Y.

The M3P is a go kart. Large aftermarket support. There are things you will hate about that suspension, but it drives like a track ready car. Same for the MYP, but it’s too tall. I have never driven the polestar, but if you’re into modding, then Tesla is the way to go. I have the MYP now and it’s the best of both worlds.

I have driven all 3 models and I can very much relate to the decision you are grappling with. No Tesla model will be as smooth or quiet as your Polestar 3 - period. But the software... what an utter disappointment. In comparison to the air suspension on your P3, even the most recent versions of MYP and M3P will feel significantly less refined. Although suspension/dampening has been improved substantially since the earlier versions, road imperfections are still transferred directly to the cabin/pedals/steering wheel. On the other hand, the software in Teslas works well, and it keeps getting better while you own the car. Needless to say, the M3P is the quickest and most fun to drive by a margin. But the MYP is no slouch either, that is for sure. TLDR; If you don't need the space and versatility of the MYP, an M3P may be a more enjoyable car to own if you like to drive aggressively. If Polestar could just get their software to work..
