Good enough home charger?!

jen_roses | 2026-03-11 20:28 | 6 views

We’re a bit overwhelmed by the number of EV home charger options out there. A friend who’s an electrician has offered to install one for us and sent a link to this charger, but we’re not sure if it’s a good choice or if there’s something better we should be looking at. For context, we both work from home so we use electricity during the day and haven’t decided on an EV tariff yet. We’re getting a BYD Atto 3. I’m assuming we can control charging via the car/app (set schedules etc.), but not sure how much that matters when choosing the charger. Any advice or recommendations appreciated! 🤯

We sell quite a few of the SyncEV units, low end of pricing but they've been problem free. Well, we haven't had any returned or calls for issues anyway! If/when you decide on an EV tarrif though, check which chargers are approved. Certain chargers can qualify for a lower rate for whatever reason!

I’ve got that one. Good unit and works well. No complaints. You can set the schedule as you need to.

At the end of the day all chargers do the same job, some do it slicker but it's up to you whether the extra cost is worth the shorter learning curve because after a while you'll be used to the charger you have. The only difference is if you want a tariff like Octopus IOG which needs specific chargers/cars but there are other tariffs from other suppliers which are just as cheap with fewer/no restrictions. Personally, if your friend has the relevant credentials then I would go for it.

Have one - very pleased with it. App works well. Some people have suggested its compatible with Octopus Intelligent Go but I would check with Sync Energy if this is the reason you are buying. Sync energy also run a demand flexibility scheme whereby they pay you £5 per month if you opt in to letting them pause charging for up to one hour.

I am looking at sync energy 2 models the tethered one . It seems that one is compatible with intelligent octopus go as well . Not sure of installation though a local sparky asked for £500 plus vat which doesn't add up for me . I would rather think about a full service ( charger plus install ) from a company instead . Lucky you got a friend who can do this for u .. it's a night mare to get a reasonable sparky

I have a BYD Seal, hypervolt home 3 pro has been flawless with it (with Eon, schedule everything via the hypervolt app directly so can't speak to octopus integration features but heard it works fine)
