What is this?

Hi everyone, new here picked up my byd atto 3 yesterday! Was just wondering what this part is behind the rear left wheel and if it should be there or not? Thought I’d ask on here before I ring the dealership! Thanks for the help and sorry if it’s a stupid question

Not sure it does, but thanks. Particular piece is just attached to the subframe quite a distance away from the wheel and control arm. Just curious because it looks like it’s doing nothing and isn’t on the right side of the car. https://preview.redd.it/wrigej6yiyfg1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=589bc9c336f9f5fb781419b5ea952f68b8be3db2

Perhaps it's the lowest point of the car and will make noise when scraping? Not sure, but I've heard of similar implementations on other cars. That said, it doesn't look like it's actually the lowest point though...

ahh yeah, might have been better if you didn't draw over the original image.

Does it have any sensor on it or near by it?

None that I can see

broski no piece of the metal piece is covered by the drawing.

Looks like it's part of the tire arm because of the nut down there covered by that thick white line, but when you zoom in it's much clear

Well I'll be... Based on the visual evidence from the undercarriage of your BYD Atto 3, the circled part is the rear wheel aerodynamic deflector (also known as a tire strake or spat). Here is a breakdown of what this part does and why it is there: Function: Its primary purpose is aerodynamic efficiency. It directs airflow around the rotating rear tire rather than letting the air hit the jagged tread face directly. This reduces turbulence and drag, which is critical for maximizing the range of an electric vehicle like the Atto 3. Location: These are typically bolted to the underbody chassis just forward of the rear wheels. Why it looks like that: It is a simple, rigid plastic flap designed to hang low enough to block air, which is why it often looks scraped or worn. Is it critical? If it is scraped: This is very common. Because they hang low to catch the air, they often scrape on speed bumps or steep driveways. This is considered normal wear and tear. If it is loose: You should tighten the mounting bolts (visible at the top of your image) to prevent it from rattling or falling off. If it falls off: It is not a safety issue. You might theoretically see a tiny drop in highway range, but the car is perfectly safe to drive without it.

Thanks, I didn't know, I learned something new!

That is bumper bar reinforcing

For the Atto it will be the ‘3’ (depends on the model of course.
