I've been planning to get solar panels for a while now, and the war and oil hike pushed me to pull the trigger this month, even though the quote I got went up because of material costs. I also stocked up on canned goods, like there's a typhoon coming. As for my vehicle, I have a BYD, so no long-distance trips for now so I can use it as a pure EV (I still have a full tank since March 01, even though I've already driven 500km).

i dont stock foods na. we've experienced lockdowns ng ilang taon and di naman tayo kinulang sa fresh meats, seafoods, vegies, fruits. may induction stove din kme. this year may kinonvert ako time deposit to savings (nung madalas earthquakes) para in case of emergencies may cash. in disasters and emergencies cash is king. kita naman natin dun sa mga foreign nationals who tried to escape mideast via land travels, cash lang ang tinatanggap. and yes magtipid tipid kse magmamahal lalo bilihin.

Bumili kami ng power station nung nakaraang linggo. Back up power lang just in case something happens. Buti nalang that time may promo sila na kasama na yung 45w solar panel sa purchase.

Pinupuno na cupboards at fridge paunti unti. Dati weekly or weekend stocks lang ang binibili, but upping our stock good for two weeks' worth.
Dati 1 bar nalang bago magpagas. The government says supply is 'good for 60 days', pero hindi naman stock yun ng gobyerno.
Those are stocks of private oil companies like Shell, Petron, etc. Nobody knows if and when magsisimula ang hoarding.

sa youtube lang napanuod ko. mostly foreign nationals either stranded tourists or expats from dubai and qatar. pero our ofws naman helped by our ph embassy. for the foreign tourists/expats, yung mga accounts nila sa land travels, they have to pay all land transpo driven by locals by cash. not sure now if meron na from tour agencies para pwede na card payments.

Steady lang. From what i’ve learned during the pandemic, hindi rin nakakatulong yung pag-overthink. Never naman kami naka-experience ng shortage so i guess we’ll just cross the bridge when we get there. I’ve had my 2 cars on full tank over the weekend though.
Maybe i’ll just monitor the situation and make adjustments if necessary.

If you look at our electricity generation, most come from coal and nautral gas, and some genset (diesel), so hindi sya as affected as gas and diesel for cars. Coal comes from australia and asian countries kaya mostly affected tayo sa diesel and natural gas.

For instances like this, lucky talaga nasa province. I'm from the province. Nakakatakot ang shortage pero since sanay kami sa kahoy atsaka sa uling, yung concern namin is more sa pag increase ng prices. 🥹 Marami ding fresh meat, veggies and fruits kaya food wise, parang wala pang panic buying dito or at least that feeling. How much more ang nasa city 🥹

What do you mean by fear mongering when fuel prices are literally increasing at this moment. Binomba na ang largest oil infrastructures. News are telling us walang balak mag ceasefire ang Iran, US, and Israel. May misleading ba sa sinabi ko?
Nangyari na. Hindi mangyayari pa lang. Do you expect na walang consequential effect yan in a few days or weeks?
Maybe they will cease fire anytime soon and maybe may roll back din sa fuel. Maybe not. There is nothing wrong with preparing as long as you don’t hoard.

Ironically, galit na galit ang r/ph redditors dyan when I opened up solar power while they are pushing their non-existent nuclear since the 80's. They didn't know how important is having solar right now and on the future along with EV's and inverter applicances.
Some even told me Leviste, as if he's the inventor of solar panels. lol

No net metering needed. Masisimot ko lahat ng harvest ng Solar panels, since my battery din me. Additional fees din kasi un net metering, and mura lang bili ng meralco (7php/kwh) so might as well utilize everything harvested.

That is not my point. Hindi ko naman sinabi na bumili sila ng EVs and nagpa install ng solar grids just out of panic and rash decisions.
If you view EVs and solar grids as long term investments because they reduce costs over time, then war or no war, the financial logic stays the same.
The reality is that many people (like me) were already planning to invest in these cost saving assets long time ago.
The current global tensions just pushed them to act sooner as a PRECAUTION for the worst case scenario. Sadly, for people like me who haven’t saved enough yet, can’t do the same.
brrtbrrt0012
2026-03-12 10:56
Just check the comments above. They assumed my friends bought EVs and have solar panels installed out of sheer panic. As if it’s not a long term investment, war or no war.
They don’t realize many people are already eyeing these assets even before the war happened. Sadly, many people din don’t have the resources to pull the trigger now.

Hirap lang with fossil fuels, interconnected e. Pag nagtaas ang oil, magtataas din ang coal and gas, and all consumer goods follow suit.
E ang kuryente natin mostly coal galing Indonesia, and LNG from Malampaya.

You are correct. But for how long and how much, we don’t know. Even if you stock up right now, your stock will be used up eventually. Then you will be forced to buy at market price after that.
Or the current prices would hold up, and this could be over soon. No one knows (aside from trump).
You do what’s the best for you. Good luck!

We're investing in more induction cookers kasi LPG is expensive na sobra. For heavy cooking, my family still enjoys the traditional over fire via charcoal approach because it's accessible sa province namin and the seniors enjoy it.
We also started to plant our own vegetables. Maliliit lang like pechay, onion, etc. In terms of entertainment, tinuruan ko ang special needs nephews ko na maglaro the way it was for me (batang 90s alright!) para bawas screen time, bawas kuryente. I know it wouldn't be significant energy savings pero meron pa rin, and we also made sure to stay in one room para yun lang may AC.
If kaya icommute ang errands, commute is cheaper. Gas is for longer trips.
Whatever happens, we can endure it. ❤️ Ika nga, it won't be our first rodeo to scarcity, and definitely not the last.

Meron kaming ecoflow powerstation before pa tapos nagpakabit kami ng solar last December (after nung bagyo 1 week kami walang kuryente). Then last week naman, nag grocery kami sa s&r (non perishable and household supplies) na good for 1-2 months habang mababa pa yung gasolina kasi medyo malayo to samin para matagal pa bago kami makabalik ulit.

Then were doomed!
Thing is, we will not run out of gas. We will buy at a higher price. Higher gas prices will lead to more expensive tanspo and logistics. And that could lead to higher prices.
Keyword here is “could”. We are all speculating. For some people’s peace of mind, they stockpile. But personally, I would rather watch out first.
