Why you should stay away from Creta EV!

Exciting_Strike5598 | 2026-03-11 07:33 | 200 views

I will give you so many reasons why its a horrible purchase and why sales of Creta EV is abysmal in India. Its not even in the list of top 10 EVs sold in India. Please don’t cry after reading it if you own a creta EV. A lot of people see ICE creta is a wonderful VFM car and is best selling in India - so the EV variant must be a compelling buy — but no, its the worst purchase you can make . Some of my reasons are; 1. Grossly overpriced by 5L INR when compared to other better EVs offering superior features and bigger batteries. 2. NMC battery - it offer lesser battery cycles , degrades faster and is less suitable for indian climate conditions . Almost every car manufacturer (including Tesla, BYD) is using superior LFP batteries which offer double the battery cycles and is more suited for hot , humid conditions 3. Creta doesn’t offer lifetime warranty on HV battery. Even cars costing half (eg new punch ev, nexon ev, be6, xev9 all offer unlimited battery warranty to first owner ( 15 yrs and unlimited kms compared to creta 8yr/ 1.6L km ). 4. Only 51kwh battery and 169bhp motor for top model creta costing 25L 😭. This is laughable when compared to 79 kwh battery and 282 bhp of be6 OR 235 bhp and 75kwh battery of harrier EV at lesser price. 5 . DC fast charging- harrier ev and be6 offer superfast 120 kW fast charging while creta is stuck at 50kW😂. Even the new punch ev or nexon offer 60 kW fast charging! 6. SMALLER tyres of creta 215/60 r17 compared to 245/55/r19 of be6, harrier ev . Definitely bigger tyres improves ride quality and comfort. 7. Lower range and power - due to smaller battery and less powerful motor. 8. Smaller boot for storage. I could go on and on. But the overpriced creta ev continues to be among the least selling EV in India and Hyundai will mostly discontinue it soon. The facts and sales speak for themselves. The creta ICE is an excellent choice and top selling car in India but Creta EV is exactly the opposite.

Even the battery sticks out below the car which looks absolutely eww

_7567Rex 2026-03-11 07:48

Yes that’s also a huge psychological factor no matter how much GC claims mfg may put out

Minpayne07 2026-03-11 07:50

Under 12 lakhs on-road, i think punch 40kWh variant is the best choice right now. Not to forget it gets LFP battery pack with prismatic cells and lifetime battery warranty. Imo, it is going to be a top seller soon. Creta gets NMC batteries and only 8 year battery warranty. Every player in the market like MG, tata, BYD, mahindra and even the new vinfast is offering LFP batteries with better warranty plans. Considering India's high temperature conditions, LPF batteries are much suitable for long term usage, and they're thermally significantly more stable and safer as well

andrecrow 2026-03-11 08:02

Thank you for the insightful analysis.. 👌👌 Hope this recent price increase will improve ev sales.. I am not a fan of ev.. But due to the pollution levels in cities.. I think ev is one of the solutions..

gunner0987 2026-03-11 08:05

Punch EV long range is the best city car we can buy in India.

Headline555 2026-03-11 08:07

Add Vinfast to your list. Amazing specs, great pricing, and extraordinary build quality. The only thing i did not like is there is no speedometer, i feel thats the heart of any car and thats missing.

bhavessss 2026-03-11 08:37

Idk why but the list seems not correct. I’d expect this to have BE6 and harrier ev considering the number of units I’m seeing on daily basis. Any official way to confirm this?

AstoundingAsh 2026-03-11 08:40

Windsor may look like an egg to some but if i were to buy an EV i will buy that

_7567Rex 2026-03-11 08:40

Bold of you to make a Hyundai dissection post > 1. Grossly overpriced by 5L INR when compared to other better EVs offering superior features and bigger batteries. Hyundai should offer some deals of discounts on it like instead of selling charger separate, make it inclusive of the ex showroom, other cash discounts (unofficial) because official discounts are pretty much unheard of in Creta nameplate > 2. NMC battery - it offer lesser battery cycles , degrades faster and is less suitable for indian climate conditions . Also part of why it’s costlier as well, than other cars like Windsor pro which have almost same battery size > 3. Evitara is one which comes to mind here which is in same camp despite using same BYD blade as the small battery mahindras They have even restricted the charge rate to 70kW compared to 140kW that Mahindra gives on same powertrain yet half the warranty > This is laughable when compared to 79 kwh battery and 282 bhp of be6 OR 235 bhp and 75kwh battery of harrier EV at lesser price. Some people have defended this that you don’t need so much power when I told them I got be6, but the point is not about the power but more so about the price you’re offered that power at. If I’m paying 25L for be6 p2 79 with 282hp, either Creta needs to provide same power at 25L or give less power but also be priced lesser When you’re pricing it same but giving less, that hurts the value proposition whether or not the power is useful or not It’s the same as buying i3 XPS for 1.5L when things like M5 MacBook Air or other better performance laptops are available for same or cheaper > 5 . DC fast charging- harrier ev and be6 offer superfast 120 kW fast charging while creta is stuck at 50kW😂. Even the new punch ev or nexon offer 60 kW fast charging! From what I can see from online groups, Hyundai has started rollout of 100kW dcfc update as of February So among other 4.3M cars like Windsor, evitara, Curvv and zs ev it will be fastest, topped only by BE6 at 140/180kW > 6. SMALLER tyres of creta 215/60 r17 compared to 245/55/r19 of be6, harrier ev . Definitely bigger tyres improves ride quality and comfort. I don’t think the wheel well of Creta can accommodate larger rims, much to dismay of PB/HR plate owners > 7. Lower range and power - due to smaller battery and less powerful motor. It is efficient sure but only due to weight savings from NMC and poor safety. Absolute battery size will still win out in highway where cars like harrier and BE6 have 25-30kWh advantage and not much difference in high speed efficiency. BE6 is quite efficient in my experience, 7.5km/kWh at 90kmph and 8.5km/kWh at 80.

Thank you Keyboard warrior, for your AI generated inputs, such valuable inputs for the community.

darthchungus_ 2026-03-11 08:45

no speedometer? are u sure bro

axm0316 2026-03-11 08:50

Dude i have been using creta ev for more than a year and also part of a WhatsApp group of fellow owners and i am proud to say, i have never seen a disappointed creta ev owner. Hyundai was overwhelmed by the initial range users like we were reporting that they took a revised ARAI certification and started advertising the better range. And your report is BS, because creta sold around 6k unit last year

yasharth 2026-03-11 08:51

if someone is buying Creta EV , they deserve it imo. Hell if someone is buying Creta ICE now , they also deserve it

sf2703 2026-03-11 08:51

Wait what? No speedometer??

de-magnus 2026-03-11 08:51

I think they just have a big screen in the middle which shows the info.. and not a dedicated instrument cluster

de-magnus 2026-03-11 08:53

Isn't Windsor ev facing some charging issues or something.. I just heard from a youtube video that Windsor is facing issues with certain DC chargers

kbrunner69 2026-03-11 08:56

They a hud too

Dependent-Unit1616 2026-03-11 09:00

Just out of curiosity.. How does poor safety result in higher efficiency for Creta

darthchungus_ 2026-03-11 09:11

That’s annoying, but a simple fix can be just to buy one for 3-4k(although not ideal). If rest of the car is great then a speedo is fine

Significant_Maybe688 2026-03-11 09:12

It looks like a giant toad.

random_lad_ 2026-03-11 09:17

Why is BYD not in the "top selling " ev cars in india rn? Does atto 3 have any issue?

Square_Mud_9696 2026-03-11 09:42

Windsor has it's own set of issues and looks are subjective and not much of an issue.

_7567Rex 2026-03-11 09:43

Lesser quality steel, not enough reinforcement in pillars and doors for side impact, crumple zones which span the entire car instead of stopping after engine bay and boot area Even ice Creta has equal kerb weight as my nexon EV prime (1300kg) Let alone bigger cars like Curvv, zs which are both 5 star and 1600kg kerb

AstoundingAsh 2026-03-11 09:45

EV is an issue in itself in a low trust society like India …there a no self service pumps for this reason ….i see all these ads for self service electric charging and i can already anticipate the problem

hobabaObama 2026-03-11 09:45

OP, in your opinion which EV is best value for money?

Boeing757op 2026-03-11 09:55

Nah he speaking facts

vika4 2026-03-11 09:56

Yes we love authority, we can’t do anything by ourselves.

AstoundingAsh 2026-03-11 09:57

Not that even …anything unattended will be broken in no time

Uoeno_netn 2026-03-11 09:57

As a Creta EV owner for the last 8 months, I find this post laughable since it’s so strongly opinionated. OP may be presenting facts about how the Creta may not make sense on paper, but I highly doubt they’ve experienced all of these cars in person. While in the market for a city runabout, I test drove the Nexon EV, BE6, Windsor and Creta EV (was looking to spend around 25L or below). The Creta had the best ride quality, build quality, and arguably the best looks. I wasn’t looking for a car that had the highest hp/rupee, rather something that was a reliable daily, easy to use and that’s quick when needed. I get a real world range of 400km on a full charge (I don’t baby the car) and I think it’s plenty. I also have a fast charger at home so I leave it to charge overnight (don’t have to bother about super fast charging). The whole argument about NMC vs LFP is valid on paper, but I would trust Hyundai with its battery tech over TATA or Mahindra (right now at least) since Hyundai has been in the EV space for longer with great feedback on their other cars like the Ioniq series or Kona. I agree the battery sticks out like a sore thumb but it’s not a deal breaker. I agree that it could’ve been priced more competitively and that other options exist (which is great for the consumer), but the whole tone of this post sounded like buying a Creta EV would be the worst mistake one can make. I also acknowledge that everyone’s use case is different, and Creta might not make sense for someone wanting the most VFM product.

Impossible_Mail1393 2026-03-11 10:01

SMALLER tyres of creta 215/60 r17 compared to 245/55/r19 of be6, harrier ev . Definitely bigger tyres improves ride quality and comfort. This also mean SMALLER expense when it's time to change tyres. 215/60/R17 street prices are between Rs.5,500 to 9,800 each while the 245/55/19 costs between 12,000 (non EV Variant ) to 19,000 ( EV specific Variant) each.

Everything except the tyre size is ok

kannanidhurinchara 2026-03-11 10:42

I am a very happy owner of Creta EV. Its a great car to own and drive. Great analysis of specs but completely missing on ownership aspect. To each their own I guess.

ashishs1 2026-03-11 11:31

bruh, all EV charging stations I've ever encountered are self-service. Yes, there are issues at times on the first try, but it always works eventually.

Ronnie_theRat 2026-03-11 11:32

what are your views on kia carens clavis ev? we are looking to buy an ev in range 20-25L and i personally like the look of clavis. although almost all the issues your mentioned in creta ev are also present with kia 😭

ashishs1 2026-03-11 11:32

why is it the top selling car if it has those issues you talk about? Genuinely asking.

ashishs1 2026-03-11 11:33

Tata and Mahindra EVs are all value for money, it seems. Except maybe for Curvv EV.

Natural_Activity2238 2026-03-11 11:37

Leave it, OP isn't ready to hear the real owner experience of the Creta EV at all.

brabarusmark 2026-03-11 12:19

The Creta EV is a stop-gap car. They saw what Tata was able to pull with the Nexon and wanted to replicate that. It is definitely overpriced but that's only because Hyundai has focused on the premium end for their EV strategy and don't have anything to offer for developing markets.

sapient_hunter 2026-03-11 13:56

There is no harm in using AI to polish your points. But whatever is listed are pretty valid points.

shyampsunder 2026-03-11 15:15

Talk to CPOs. Chargers abroad regularly get vandalised, in India it's extremely rare mostly because there are guards around commercial establishments. They blend into the environment where cars anyway park at hotels, restaurants and offices. Only govt chargers are inoperational or broken.

CrispyCouchPotato1 2026-03-11 15:34

Apart from psychological factor, that's just shoddy work at \~27L on road. It's unacceptable for the car to visibly look like an afterthought.

CrispyCouchPotato1 2026-03-11 15:36

Apart from all the points you mentioned, it's still a 3star rated Creta shell. I hate that the ICE itself costs 25L to begin with, but paying 27L for a retrofit 3 star rated car is just downright cheating.

py-7669 2026-03-11 16:52

But not everyone want to deal with mahindra/tata service. The creta ev may not be a born ev buy its a reliable, efficient and no nonsense car. Most owners are happy as they looked at everything and not a spec sheet comparison.

desi_swag 2026-03-11 16:55

But heyyy, the KM/kWh is one of the best in class. Also, Autocar people seem to be praising it a lot.

Help_me_leave_reddit 2026-03-11 17:51

yeahhh the charger is finicky and takes a few attempts to start charging

ObjectiveRip3311 2026-03-11 18:00

they launched creta ev to take care of the CAFE norms. Hyundai is not even trying here, they are simply testing waters for the next generation...

Impressive-Ad4402 2026-03-11 19:17

They're in the premium segment.

djblazma 2026-03-11 19:29

What about Vinfast?

Cheap-Claim-9396 2026-03-11 19:56

Not far from the 9e though.

Strong_Highlight2001 2026-03-11 21:16

I want some serious BYD / Tesla in a range on 25 lakhs on road pricing with zero tax or maybe 10% import duty which brings that to 28-29 lakhs on road

Strong_Highlight2001 2026-03-11 21:17

I want some serious BYD / Tesla in a range on 25 lakhs on road pricing with zero tax or maybe 10% import duty which brings that to 28-29 lakhs on road With the current war scenes going on I would see myself getting a EV soon

gtalossantos 2026-03-11 22:51

totally unrelated but windsor does not even have safety ratings so why is it selling in such high numbers?

Practical_Lunch_6059 2026-03-12 03:11

I once sat in a family friend‘s Windsor for 30 mins and the backseat was genuinely plain uncomfortable. That added to the looks makes it a big no for me

_7567Rex 2026-03-12 03:28

Because it provides same value as Creta ev at much lower price You see, even in Creta ice, max sales comes from lower trim MT models, which are under 15L Even I think that upto 15L it is ok if car is not 5 star as long as it is safe to SOME extent But beyond 15L 5 star is non negotiable for me at least

random_lad_ 2026-03-12 05:36

A budget EV will be out soon (Atto 2) by reliable sources.

Impressive-Ad4402 2026-03-12 05:37

Hopefully it'll be priced sub 20L
