Test Drove the BMW iX3 - it's a proper beast

Their price starts at about 58k and could go north of 65k but the amount of car you get for this is staggering.. just hear me out: \- 469HP and 645NM of torque, 0-62 in 4.9 seconds \- 108.7kWh (net) battery and up to 500 miles of range (Depends on wheels selected, season, driving style, weather bla bla bla as usual) \- 400kW DC charting (on the new 800-volt platform) allowing 10-80% top up in 21mins (so they say.. haven't tested this.. obviously big caveats regarding the infrastructure being able to give you that) To give a comparison, there's a Volvo EX60 that claims 500+ miles but nothing else. And the "cheap" BYD Sealion 7 competitor is 60k too! offering 300miles of range... I've been given the keys for 2 hours and took it to a nice twisty stretch of road that I know like the back of my hand. I can say I am really impressed with the acceleration, handling, suspension but also braking - feels like a driver's car indeed. And the toys are quite nice too: \- Adaptive cruise - smooth and easy. Best in class (some say on youtube reviews). \- the Panoramic Vision is quite innovative - driver area, centre area, passenger area; fully customizable (and controllable by either driver - via menus - or passanger via app). It's better than a HUD, more info, looking nice, straight down the windshield in the eye vision \- steering wheel looks like a spaceship (on M Sport , not Pro - the one on Pro looks worse IMHO). and the haptic feedback buttons, that change color when activated etc, are quite nice \- big funky shaped tablet with responsive UI \- fully integrated charging system - the car gives you all the details about chargers around, suggests stops when planning a journey, then talks with the supplier, gets the port opened. No need to fumble with accounts or contactless payments I really like it. Truly feels like the future. Worth checking out ;)

How much were you paid by BMW? 😂

Various-Jellyfish132 2026-03-10 12:31

That's one ugly front end

Busy-Win4077 2026-03-10 12:33

I wish! my salary sacrifice scheme (Octopus) will pay THEM £1200/mo

Busy-Win4077 2026-03-10 12:34

Looks better when the lights are on.. I should have taken a better pic (with proper background too) but I was too busy enjoying driving it :)

CPopsBitch3 2026-03-10 12:36

"Feels like a driver's car indeed" and it's a 2.3 tonne SUV, hmm... Thanks for this very authentic non paid for post OP. Serious question - why on earth would anyone (not on a salary sacrifice scheme) buy this for £60k+ when in 2-3 years they will be worth less than half that? Almost certainly this will lose £10k a year in depreciation alone.

Busy-Win4077 2026-03-10 12:37

it is very authentic and very non paid (like BMW would lower themselves to pay a nobody to write on this VERY IMPORTANT reddit group LOL), believe it or not, your choice. And mate.. who cares about what the car is worth in 4 years, just lease it if you can cover the monthly, simples

Rh-27 2026-03-10 12:41

This post just screams every man has a price.

davus_maximus 2026-03-10 12:43

The specs are staggering but so is £65,000. It's also got a fugly, aggressive front. I worry my i3 is too aggressive looking, let alone this ix3 warship!

Cdoooos 2026-03-10 12:44

It's too ugly though and very expensive. And it is extremely ghastly

ninja_moth 2026-03-10 12:54

You realize lease prices cover the depreciation?

CPopsBitch3 2026-03-10 12:59

It doesn't seem likely BMW would pay for this post, but this has to be one of the most inauthentic things I have ever read. It reads exactly like a paid ad. At least it doesn't read like AI I guess. Yes, good idea, lease forever, you will own nothing and be a happy consoomer. Doing a quote on BMW website on the absolute lowest spec IX3 with no options over 4 years for 10k miles annually comes out to £42,600. To rent this fucking monstrosity it's £10,600 per year. You will be able to buy it for £25k in 4 years and if you sell in another 4 years might only lose £10k - £15k instead of forty fucking thousand.

Is it just me, but in grey or black and with the lights on it looks uncomfortably like German WW2 uniforms

West_Yorkshire 2026-03-10 13:10

Can you not read the sign?

WispagoldITA 2026-03-10 13:16

No thanks. 0-60 times for me are pointless to me as most EV's will have a quick time anyways. A drivers car being a 2.3T SUV, is this what it has become now? Probably another reason as too never part with my 205 GTi

zephyrmox 2026-03-10 13:26

I simply cannot believe an iX3 is a drivers car. I'm sure its fast, comfy and full of kit, but not a drivers car.

CPopsBitch3 2026-03-10 16:14

I do know how leasing works, yes, you are still paying a shitload of depreciation it just means the cost to you is fixed, not that you're somehow getting away with it. The prices by the way are £10.6k PER YEAR for 10k miles over 48 months, £42,600 total to rent it for 4 years. It's £59k to just buy the thing. I certainly wouldn't call £42.6k covering the depreciation

ninja_moth 2026-03-10 16:19

I was replying to op and actually agreed with what you said.

CPopsBitch3 2026-03-10 16:58

My bad lol

PristineMeaning6489 2026-03-11 07:51

Lovely bit of kit but bloody expensive- Had a similar experience last year when looking at EVs for my work commute. Ended up going with salary sacrifice through the company and its genuinely saved me about £350/month compared to personal finance. The Electric Car Scheme handled everything- spoke to HR, sorted the paperwork, even bundled in maintenance and breakdown cover. Only downside is I'm locked in for 3 years, but if you're planning to keep the car anyway the tax savings are solid and make it more affordable for a car like this! Might be worth seeing if your employer would consider setting something up if they haven't already. It's a great money saver when looking at expensive EVs.

Busy-Win4077 2026-03-11 21:11

I’m sal saccing too! :) from the £1200 package (including insurance, VED, maintenance, tyres windshield etc) I actually pay around £700

Busy-Win4077 2026-03-11 21:13

Well, it depends on your definition of what a drivers car is. For me, it’s exactly that: comfortable and quiet when I need it, fast nippy and composed when I want it

Busy-Win4077 2026-03-12 11:57

I know.. I hate black cars with black windows and black chrome. Also looks like Darth Vader helmet lol :) my (ordered) config is much nicer [https://configure.bmw.co.uk/en\_GB/configid/mbk2upd8](https://configure.bmw.co.uk/en_GB/configid/mbk2upd8)
