One month with Sealion 7

Mep3avec82 | 2026-01-16 14:17 | 80 views

I got it as a company car in December so only drove it in winter months but already made over 6000km. On winter 19” tires car feels a bit stiff. Not too bad but I wish it was softer. Child presence sensor, driver monitoring sensor and road sign reading function need to be disabled for ever. Too bad it comes back after next start. ICC is a bit too panicky comparing to other cars. Other than that I just love it!

What's the efficiency you get with it?

Mep3avec82 2026-01-16 15:11

In mixed mode (city and country roads) it is around 21.5kw/h per 100km. Anything over speed of 90km/h consumption climbs above 25kw/h. Honestly speaking, 100% charge barely gives me 400km range in winter.

Which other cars did you consider? Do you have comfort or excellence? Why BYD? Happy with choice I see. It looks like the issues you have are fixable with a next software upgrade. Any hardware issues? (I am considering this car myself but in early stages of decision… looking for lessons learned stuff)

Mep3avec82 2026-01-16 16:08

I was looking into several cars indeed. Kia EVs, BYD Seal, VW IDs and Even Skoda IVs. No regrets with going with this one. Fulfills my need completely. Happy with the looks and build quality. This is Comfort RWD. I have a latest software upgrade version 3.1.0 and some of the annoying features got actually introduced with updates, rather then fixing them, but that's just a matter of European regulations.

A beautiful car, very safe and comfortable. The software has a bunch of stupid things. Android carplay spotify stops randomly mid song...sometimes the car brakes out of nowhere in particular in roundabouts...the radio frequency hop is just bad, it stops the songs for like a second each time it changes frequency. But overall very happy with my car.

Totally agree about the quirks. FM radio receiver is weak. No phantom breaking for me yet

Mother_University_84 2026-01-16 19:06

This is interesting, I thought some of the updates actually made things better? I'm mainly concerned about the child detection system going off unnecessarily as I'll be having child seats at the back. What annoying features got introduced with the update? Im considering the Skoda Enyaq coupe as well but I do prefer the look of the SL7

Meanwhile I just got 150 miles out of the AWD excellence using ~81% battery, driving in the UK with temperature between 0-8 degrees celsius. Mostly city driving so 30-40mph with constant stop/starts. Mine is using 45.9 kWh / 100 miles. I can’t believe how bad it is.

On the child presence sensor, the solution is to turn on Autopower on / Autopower off which effectively synchronizes "I am in the car" with "the car is powered on" and never again leave the car in a situation where there are humans inside but it's powered off. Powering off the car when you're not driving it is an old habit from ICE cars where you can't have the A/C on unless you're either burning fuel or flattening the battery. You don't need to put an EV in this state and the car gets freaked out about it because it thinks its meat cargo might be insufficiently refrigerated.

It's crazy how different they are. I have effectively same model but in Australia (sealion 7 performance) and driving around city I get 18-19kwh /100km (with conversion I think that works out to around 28kwh. Temperature around 25-35c (sub-tropics summer). But for a 500hp car I wasn't expecting fuel efficiency.

I have phantom breaking at one spot as I leave my house. But my wife's BMW does the same thing. The road is curved and has no parking until end of curve. So the computers think I'm going to run up the back of the parked car when I'm not.

vintagebum 2026-01-17 11:47

From what I've read it is based on movement, down to micro movements like someone breathing. So leaving a car seat in there won't set it off.

Try my Honda eny1 with 2.1miles per k/w its a fucking abomination of a range. Full charge gets me about 160 miles, shame really because it's a nice car. But me and the wife are looking at a BYD when we can change in about 18 months. Always had a soft spot for them.

I need help with my front windshield glass. It is CONSTANTLY getting foggy and it shows 2 or 3 circles that I assume were causes by some kind of sticker they had on the car at the stand. Is there a good product to clean the glass so it doesn't get foggy so often? It's really annoying

Mep3avec82 2026-01-20 16:38

I had the same. Those circles are from suction cups they use to carry glass in factory. You need to wash all the windows from inside using warm water with dishwasher soap and add some isopropyl alcohol. Wash it nicely and then dry it out with microfiber cloth. It helped me

afcc1313 2026-01-21 17:42

Thanks for the tip man. Does it also help not getting foggy as often?

Mep3avec82 2026-01-21 20:14

It helped for me indeed, but we've not had rainy days lately, we have negative degrees temperature here. But washing off any residue manufacturing coating from windows should really decrease fogging up

afcc1313 2026-01-22 11:49

Thank you bro. Will try it

Mep3avec82 2026-01-22 12:52

sure. Please share with us if it helped
