We drove BYD cars from Pagudpud to General Santos via Land (and sea) - not sponsored

ihate-onions | 2026-03-17 03:12 | 196 views

We just finished a campaign shoot for BYD with AC Mobility partnered with Department of Tourism “DRIVE ELECTRIC, LOVE PINAS” This is the introduction of the campaign: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DVH9gf1ElP8/?igsh=Z2N1M2JmZmZhcXB0 This is also a 2 GUINNESS WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT For most cities visited on a continuous journey via (1) Battery & (2) Hybrid vehicle. So stay tuned sa result may NDA kami. 🤣 Honestly I was a nonbeliever at first “kesyo iba pa din pag gas or diesel, jdm nambawan, maliit resale value nyan” Pero surprisingly 25 days on the road 3,700 kms continuous travel - NOT A SINGLE ONE sa dala namin sa fleet ay nasira. I am now considering to sell my ice car(s) to get a byd car, not sure pa kung anong model. The ride is very comfortable at iba talaga yung instant torque at sobrang tipid pa, feels premium. 🤣 Fleet vehicles used are: SHARK 6 EMAX 9 EMAX 7 TANG DMI TANG EV ATTO 3 SEALION 6 SEALION 5 Best for me is TANG and SEALION 6 (Pero out of budget kumuha ng Tang) If you have questions pwede ko naman sagutin sa abot ng aking makakaya kasi may NDA hanggat di narerelease yung campaign video. 🤣

Were you part of the production or one of the participants?

ihate-onions 2026-03-17 03:27

Hello im a part of the production crew / staff. It was a 60ish pax team.

Brod1738 2026-03-17 03:30

Which ice car are you planning to trade in for the BYDs? I'm deciding between the Seal and the Han. Han feels nicer than my 17' Camry

desto12 2026-03-17 03:33

How did you cope having no charging stations in places like Pagadian/Dapitan etc.

ihate-onions 2026-03-17 03:35

I currently have a Swift 2019 and Innova 2.8 2019. I might sell my Innova sometime this year or both of them para magpakabit din ng solar and net metering. I havent tried the han, but we saw the new Seal full ev yung full sized sedan na mukhang civic. You might wanna check it out. :)

13thZephyr 2026-03-17 03:50

For sure they brought portable chargers.

aranjei 2026-03-17 03:59

Im confused, this is not sponsored? Meaning all expenses including the car are from ur pocket?

ihate-onions 2026-03-17 04:00

So from Cebu Central we charged then kaya ng mga EV to Oslob port dumerecho na sa Dipolog charging station then next charge stop na is Robinsons Pagadian. From Pagadian - CDO charging station then bukidnon valencia charging station then davao charging station na then davao to gensan charging na. Hope this helps! :)

Ill_Election_6228 2026-03-17 04:01

I’m planning of buying Tang. Which is better, DMI or EV?

ihate-onions 2026-03-17 04:01

We brought portable chargers pero i dont think ginamit yun heheh

ihate-onions 2026-03-17 04:03

No sorry what i mean is im part of the prodcution crew and im not being paid to post this

DopeDonut69 2026-03-17 04:05

Would you say na we have electric chargers para makapag road trip ka starting from Manila to North or South without range anxiety? Contemplating on getting an EV pero ayaw ko na bumalik sa combustion engine or hybrid. Mas okay sana kung konti na lang kinalaman sa oil/fuel prices as much as possible.

ihate-onions 2026-03-17 04:08

Mas maganda yung features ng Tang EV sobrang lakas ng torque pero mas preferred namin yung Tang DMi it really depends on your preference. Pero kung ako gusto ko personally yung Tang DMi kasi mahahaba lagi yung tinatravel namin cos of work. :)

Ill_Election_6228 2026-03-17 04:11

So you prefer DMi para no range anxiety. Thank you. Yan din sana gusto ko. Kaso when it comes to maintenance, mas mapapamahal. Thank you

ihate-onions 2026-03-17 04:13

Yes, we the production crew also is may anxiety at first Hindi din kami naniwala na kaya pero holy shit nasa Gensan na kami now walang range anxiety from pagudpud. You just have to plan ahead talaga yung trip mo and syempre a bit of waiting time sa charging to relax and decompress sa byahe.

ihate-onions 2026-03-17 04:18

I think the video will be posted around this 2nd quarter. It will explain a lot sa charging stations around the entire Philippines.

DopeDonut69 2026-03-17 04:22

Thanks!

Like south luzon is notorious of that road shitness

Illustrious_Ear4461 2026-03-17 04:55

Yes, go ahead! Let Chinese technology gather more data!

Working-Honeydew-399 2026-03-17 04:56

Wala un affordable Seagull?

ihate-onions 2026-03-17 04:57

Yung seagull special appearance lang around manila tour hehe

Working-Honeydew-399 2026-03-17 04:58

Un lang afford ko hahaha

ihate-onions 2026-03-17 04:59

Urbandeodorant 2026-03-17 05:06

I’m rooting for EMAX 7. do you think is the best EV to be compare in the likes of ICE MPV’s? (Xpander, Veloz, Rush, Avanza and XL7?)

Alarming_Wall_9609 2026-03-17 05:12

2026 na.

ExerciseThen1884 2026-03-17 05:16

Parang nakita ko kayo last week dito sa CDO, around balulang bridge, evening.

Ryujinniie 2026-03-17 05:18

Ganto nalang, if you have solar or lagi ka nagmamall, EV na. Pero if only car, long drives lagi go for DMI

weljoes 2026-03-17 05:19

Thanks po

urvanity 2026-03-17 05:19

Yan din tatanong ko sana hahaha!

Middle_Boot7573 2026-03-17 05:20

Tell me the real advantages after 8 yrs when your batteries die :)

radcity_xxx 2026-03-17 05:21

You living under a rock sir?

mandrigma 2026-03-17 05:30

Do you have info on the use of battery vs gas sa journey nyo? This would also tell us the state of chargers outside metro manila.

Late-Potato-1382 2026-03-17 05:30

nice tour. ano sa tingin mo ang mga pros and cons from your recent trip? Any areas for improvements? Planning on getting an ev soon.

Raycab03 2026-03-17 05:35

I am personally banking on the foresight that the battery technology will improve and cheapen after 8 years. BYD already developed 10-97% in 9 mins (for a full EV to boot!). So the tech improvement is there. The next to wait for is for the batteries to become cheaper. 8 years is a long time especially our techs now are exponentially growing because of AI. So hopefully if my batteries die after 8 years, i can cheaply replace it and voila! Almost good as new!

gourdjuice 2026-03-17 05:55

So, sponsored pa rin ng byd?

Illustrious_Ear4461 2026-03-17 06:20

What's wrong with gathering data so they can catch up with other industry players? You want them to sell cars without studying the Philippine market / terrain? Maybe it's YOU who's living under a rock..

Illustrious_Ear4461 2026-03-17 06:20

Your point?

jokerrr1992 2026-03-17 06:24

Just say "not an advertisement"

PartyConcentrate308 2026-03-17 06:27

SpogiMD 2026-03-17 07:02

China thanks you.

hudortunnel61 2026-03-17 07:07

On average, ano ang KPL ni Sealion?

SharpSquirrel3043 2026-03-17 07:10

pazem123 2026-03-17 07:56

I mean, it’s just 3700km. Even motor na mio kaya yan ih. The bare minimum is not having it break down, so actually di naman achievement na hindi nasiraan, kasi that’s the bare minimum But still, I guess congrats if you broke the record? Personally, I have no doubts a BYD (or any brand in general) will breakdown in the middle of the road, given na even motorcycles are built tough enough for those lengths

roninblade 2026-03-17 07:59

it's great to drive these brand new cars across the country and not having any car break down. do this again after 5 years and if you get the same result then it'd be a much better sales ad for BYD. edit: i would buy byd once their longevity and parts pipeline is proven solid.

Leountouch 2026-03-17 08:24

Is the shark 6 comfortable? How's the actual mileage (how many refills?), versus its company posted one?

Middle_Boot7573 2026-03-17 08:40

If the batteries die (regardless of number of years of usage), can you still use the car with just gas alone temporarily? If yes, then for how long? Also, are BYD hybrid cars just the same compared to Toyota HEV variants of Corolla Cross or Yaris Cross?

ihate-onions 2026-03-17 08:41

Good question. Emax 7 is the best siguro to compete with 6-7 seater vehicles considering the price.

ihate-onions 2026-03-17 08:44

That was recorded by guinness world record sorry wala kaming access for now kasi hindi pa inaannounce kung na complete talaga yung attempt. 🙇‍♂️

ihate-onions 2026-03-17 08:46

iamrayne23 2026-03-17 09:27

Would love to get the campaign logo as a sticker for my car! How to get one pls?

Raycab03 2026-03-17 09:57

Ah no. If battery dies, then the car is dead. It’s like if the engine dies of an ICE car, then the car is also dead. You cannot drive with the gas alone. The battery is still the primary that powers up the car. BYD Hybrids are PHEVs, while Yaris, etc are HEVs. The P in PHEV is plug-in, meaning you can charge at home/stations. PHEVs also have longer battery range, for example around 90kms in one full charge. While HEVs are up to 5kms only. Meaning, if I travel 50kms or even 70kms in a day, technically I can NOT use gas at all. I can just charge every night.

peacekeeper05 2026-03-17 09:59

That’s a million peso difference. The Tang EV has more features and has insane power figures though so it’s worth it.

64590949354397548569 2026-03-17 10:01

Forgive me. But what is the chalenge? Traveling sales man do those routes all the time? Full EV sana.

Middle_Boot7573 2026-03-17 10:14

so whats the purpose of Toyota HEVs then? Only for daily errands, and not for long drives, e.g. 4x a month? 🤔

Fine_Doughnut8578 2026-03-17 10:17

Filipinos don't care about this. As an IT security professional, this has been a major security threat across the industry. Hindi nila naiintindihan how dangerous this is. However, normal consumers really wouldn't and shouldn't worry about this. Our government must be the one to safeguard this, just like what is being done on other countries.

RepublicAct6969 2026-03-17 10:26

Would you say this applies to other EVs with the same range/more if they can charge with the same chargers used during your trip?

Raycab03 2026-03-17 10:42

You still get the benefits of being a HEV: regenerative braking, lower emissions, still better fuel economy of 30-40% over ICE. PHEV > HEV though. The argument now is just the price. Toyota/Lexus PHEVs are goddamn expensive. While Chinese PHEVs are waaay cheaper, like BYD and Chery, for example. You get the technology of a PHEV at an affordable price. But theyre not the proven Japanese brands. Only the future will tell.

Middle_Boot7573 2026-03-17 11:10

A friend (former workmate) of mine who's a diehard Toyota fanboy ever since, just made fun of BYD buyers after I shared this link with him hahaha.. He said those BYD buyers will suffer the same fate with Geely buyers back in 2020, who majority of them have now vanished. I guess I will be buying a KIA Sonet ICE for now (1st car) due to limited budget, until I get all of my money awards from my legals cases in RTC and MTC. I would then sell it and get a Sealion or Shark 6.

frustratinglyvanilla 2026-03-17 11:36

Nda but you already posted the brand, where you went, models, even the distance. Anong saklaw ng nda nyo?

MarshMellowInfinity 2026-03-17 12:43

Fun_Foxrj 2026-03-17 12:44

No way, were those the vehicles parked before @ Red Planet Makati?

Round_Personality_64 2026-03-17 13:12

Saw your team in one of the dealerships. Can you please share the chargig staruina from Manila to Mindanao please? Planning to get my car in Manila as it is 100k cheaper than getting in Mindanao.

HuckleberryHappy596 2026-03-17 13:13

Pero surprisingly 25 days on the road 3,700 kms continuous travel - NOT A SINGLE ONE sa dala namin sa fleet ay nasira. malamang :D after 50K KM dun mgkakalaman

kyrvch 2026-03-17 13:17

in case u missed it, theres TANG EV there. the luxury ev tho

kyrvch 2026-03-17 13:26

It depends on your capability to charge. mine's been sitting at >30km/L; tataas pa due to umiiwas gumamait ng gas due to the rising prices.

64590949354397548569 2026-03-17 13:31

I saw that, the two (2) hybrid is the confusing part. Ano yun attemp, ano yun goal. I'll just wait for the full advertisement.

pepsishantidog 2026-03-17 14:18

This is a common misconception. Di magastos ang PMS ng PHEVs. I just had my 1st year PMS and it only cost around 5.7k. Once a year lang din. Samantalang sa Honda City, mahina ang 10k, twice a year pa.

63_PHI 2026-03-17 15:00

Same 😁

ihate-onions 2026-03-17 15:01

Yes! We stayed in red planet poblacion before taking off papuntang visayas and mindanao! 😁

Heartless_Moron 2026-03-17 15:15

The problem with EV is the battery itself. Battery are supposed to degrade overtime. So, longevity remains a question unless there would be a significant breakthrough in improvement to the existing battery technology.

roninblade 2026-03-17 15:20

> Pero surprisingly 25 days on the road 3,700 kms continuous travel - NOT A SINGLE ONE sa dala namin sa fleet ay nasira. di ba, na-surprise pa sya na 25 days on the road at walang nasira. does that mean wala talaga confidence when they were setting out? if the reliability is exepected, why the surprise that not even one broke down.

roninblade 2026-03-17 15:24

we know that already. kaya nga meron 8 years warranty right now. i wouldn't mind batteries breaking down after 8 to 10 years. pero naman, wag costly yun replacement. that is the actual problem.

Raycab03 2026-03-17 15:37

That’s actually understandable. Not all people have the same risk appetite to try new things, and this is still a big purchase. I did my research din naman. I checked other countries’ subreddits and searched for BYD and read their actual reviews. Watched YT reviews, in PH and other countries. Researched and asked kay Google and ChatGPT. Asked around who owns them. About sa Geely comment naman: in 2024, BYD was toe-to-toe with Tesla (the leading EV). I was reading articles where BYD is in the same sentence as Tesla for comparison. A few Tesla models even use BYD’s batteries. In 2025, BYD surpassed Tesla as the leader in EV sales. At least that achievement should tell that BYD is already trusted by other countries. If it’s a bad product, how did it beat Tesla? My point: Geely is nowhere near this conversation. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cj9rjwpvmpzo

Neither_Prompt_9184 2026-03-17 15:55

Definitely sponsored. Next.

may nakasabayan kami kahapon 5 or 6 ata along Davao road around 6pm

kodfaristo 2026-03-17 22:51

So they were charging these on ordinary outlets if they did not use their portable charges? How many times were they charged in the 25 day journey?

Fun_Foxrj 2026-03-18 03:36

I KNEW THE DECALS WERE FAMILIAR! We were staying at Red Planet around Feb. 28, but left the following day hahahaha At that time, I was wondering why there were a fleet of BYD cars in the hotel, with those special decals- NOW I HAVE MY ANSWER 🤣

Xalistro 2026-03-18 09:01

A common comment that i've seen is that BYD cars have a wallowy suspension. Granted these are not sport tuned, I'm just curious if there are highway run challenges on the vehicle stability, since being very soft on the suspension has its downsides too

Flashy-Humor4217 2026-03-18 12:21

Daming BYD haters. Hahahaha papalag at papalag talaga.
