Byd dash cams worth it?

Hello. Looking at getting a Sealion 7 within the next few weeks and was wondering about the dash cam that you can get with it. Is it good? Difference between the small and large battery or is it just one can record more? Better to get your own? Any info would be great! Thanks 😊

Not sure on the battery. I suspect the smaller battery will suit most use cases. The camera looks pretty easy to install and much cheaper to buy it after market.

The general consensus is that dealership extras are a rip-off. The flipside is that getting the dealership to install the dashcam protects you from them trying to weasel out of the warranty if something breaks. It also makes including it in your insurance super easy since its pretty much all there on the one document.

Yeah, $1600 is a lot i feel but i dont really know whats out there and good so i did think it would just be easy to just have it in the car. It would probably extend when we could get the car which isnt ideal but eh it ia what it is. Lots to consider! Thanks fornyour reply

I suspect too that it can just hold more with the bigger battery which not sure how much extra you need, if you have an accident you would get the footage straight away. Thanks for your reply!

You'll also pay stamp duty on it because it's counted in the price of the car.

I suppose the battery size dictates how long it can record between drives. Honestly I rarely leave my car parked anywhere for long periods (maybe a couple of hours at most). I wonder if there's anywhere that indicates the battery time. I've just ordered a sealion 7 with the small battery, so I'm looking forward to testing it.

Yeah i figured it would be something like that. Oh cool. How long is the wait to get it?

You can get an OEM one and install it yourself for a few hundred I got mine from TOP BYD I think it was. Works fine, nothing amazing but the cabling is there and there’s a hole for it already in the apparatus behind the rear view mirror.

Oh great. Thanks for the info! Definitely look into that

The battery is talking about the 12v battery for the car, kind of similar to standard car batteries. the main byd platform battery is supposed to charge the 12v battery as needed, so upgrading your supplementary 12v battery would theoretically mean that the main battery doesn't need to feed the supp battery as often.
