Hidden BYD Infotainment Trick: Control Climate with Three Fingers

RefrigeratorNo4413 | 2026-01-08 18:51 | 97 views

My fellow **BYD-comrades**, did you know that the heating/cooling system in your car (not sure if this applies to all BYD models) can be controlled directly on the touchscreen using **three fingers**? Place three fingers on the screen and: * move them **vertically** to increase or decrease the temperature * move them **horizontally** to adjust the fan speed No menus, no buttons—just a quick gesture. Of course, the same can also be done via **voice commands**, but I only discovered the three-finger gesture recently and thought it was worth sharing. If you’ve already known this, fair enough—if not, consider this your small BYD “hidden feature” for the day. Curious to hear if this works on all models or just some of them.

I'm so gonna try it out tomorrow!

starmonkeylg 2026-01-08 19:00

This feature came last summer with an update - it even works when you have Android Auto or Apple Carplay running on the screen so it's super useful! 👍🏻

LoGiX247 2026-01-08 19:01

Yep works on al of them. Best “trick” is your radio misbehaving, pressing the volume roller will reboot the system and fix about 97% of the problems.

ggeldenhuys 2026-01-08 19:04

It's not hidden... It's in the manual. 🙄

NotAskary 2026-01-08 19:06

First thing the salesman showed me when I test drove a dolphin.

Mep3avec82 2026-01-08 19:18

yup yup. Discovered it by accident as well. Neat

ninjitsu101 2026-01-08 19:36

Yup same here

NotAskary 2026-01-08 19:37

As soon as you ask about climate control and the hassle of the touch screen this is always their answer.

CBlackstoneDresden 2026-01-08 20:13

Same thing with my Atto 3.

Annual-Negotiation-5 2026-01-08 20:25

Same here in México, then after I got the car I realized this was pretty much the only trick the sales guy knew about the car haha

SexyDraenei 2026-01-08 21:08

duh.

flashdognz 2026-01-08 21:12

Brilliant, I didn't know, than you

Suitable_Relative825 2026-01-08 21:28

Am I the only one that thinks the temperature controls are upside down? When I swipe up I expect the temperature to go up... but it goes down! Almost the perfect solution to no physical buttons. Just wish I could switch it around.

RefrigeratorNo4413 2026-01-08 21:30

Yes, I agree — I actually get the direction wrong every time 🤣

Suitable_Relative825 2026-01-08 21:32

Me too! I just can't seem to get it to stick in my head

violinha 2026-01-08 21:46

So did I.

CrunchingTackle3000 2026-01-08 21:57

How very 2024 of you!

Vivid-Object-139 2026-01-08 23:22

Yes they are upside down.

santz007 2026-01-08 23:35

It's actually always been there

AsianBobaGod 2026-01-08 23:51

When you swipe up on your mobile, does your page go upwards, towards to the top of page?

Disastrous_Can8139 2026-01-09 01:01

i think there is like 6 ways to control the climate if not mistaken , maybe i'll do a post about it later

IceSabers 2026-01-09 03:02

Hate this, it is very frustrating when you are watching YouTube because thier gesture is overlapped.

Electrical-Ad-7342 2026-01-09 04:26

Old news

ikhwanb 2026-01-09 05:33

Even hidden, you can tap and hold the temperature number at the bottom to adjust it like slider

Consistent-Basis8452 2026-01-09 06:17

Hi, here is another one, and yes before everyone dives in i read the manual end to end before I got the car, but a) it's so badly written and b) i am old and forget stuff so...  On atto2 press the weirdy button on steering wheel by you right thumb, it pops up various screens you can scroll through with left and right track select buttons, one is temperature and fan control, but the one that surprised me is you can change the driving display from simple to classic, classic gives you a speedometer and power output/ input rotary dials, I like it.  Give it a try if you don't know it there. On this note, the UI is a mess no? This right hand button seems to do much the same as the other one on the left hand side of the wheel, it feels like the UI was put together by loads of different teams and then just dumped on the car.  Still love it tho. Just checked in the manual, apparently the button is called "10 Instrument cluster/Back" and this is the description  Instrument cluster/Back ● When the instrument cluster is not in the menu mode, press Instrument cluster/Back to show the instrument cluster menu. ● When the instrument cluster is in menu mode, press this button to return to the upper-level screen, or to exit the menu if there is no upper-level screen. ● When on the Bluetooth call screen, press this button to end the call. Makes perfect sense now eh?

va-va-voom-14 2026-01-09 06:41

The point is, the temperature control and fan speed do the opposite to each other. That’s what causes the confusion.

PitchPleasant338 2026-01-09 06:51

Real answer right here! I read the manuals of the final 3 short listed cars before making a purchase.

asithc 2026-01-09 07:12

This is a very common feature. Almost everybody knows it. But recently I findout you can brifly touch and then drag side to side the tempreature value In the bottom fixed bar, it will change the tempreature

triedtoavoidsignup 2026-01-09 07:59

Agreed

jtbrivaldo 2026-01-09 08:17

Thanks ChatGPT

Cautious_Tax_9497 2026-01-09 08:22

This came with last year's update, when I got mine in 2024 it did not have these feature lol

goldi8 2026-01-09 09:01

WTF... Why is such a thing no where documented?

speddie23 2026-01-09 10:11

2025 version of the manual, yes. 2023 version, no. As of writing this, the BYD Australia website still has the 2023 version of the manual for the seal, possibly because the right hand drive version of the manual doesn't exist yet.

Silenceisgrey 2026-01-09 10:11

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) there's a joke in here somewhere

ggeldenhuys 2026-01-09 11:14

Every update of the car's software, also installs the e-manual for that version. I've only ever read the e-manual in the car. 🤷‍♂️ That 3-finger feature was only introduced about a year ago.

speddie23 2026-01-09 11:38

Ahh yep, I forgot about the e-manual. By contrast, I've only read the PDF manuals.

samdug123 2026-01-09 15:45

was it an update? I don't think it was in my manual

Slim1604 2026-01-09 19:15

You can also briefly press the icon at the bottom and slide left or right on both icons.

RefrigeratorNo4413 2026-01-09 19:16

Ah yes, I tried it today — really nice, even the UI showing red toward warm and blue toward cold. I hadn’t thought of it because I was afraid of moving the buttons down there by pressing and holding.

idryss_m 2026-01-09 19:45

An update. Works on my 2023 atto, but wasnt an or8ginal feature

Stanazolmao 2026-01-09 23:08

Oh damn where do you find this?

Suitable_Relative825 2026-01-10 20:29

When I scroll up on the volume, the volume goes up. When I push up on the cruise control speed, the speed goes up. But yes you're right, when I use a different device to do something unrelated, it acts differently. Thanks for your contribution.

we3737 2026-01-12 04:56

just imagine it as a roller, when u swipe down the roller spins downward revealing the hidden numbers on top

thetiredindependent 2026-01-13 07:30

FINALLY GETTING OURS BEFORE END OF JAN! Yaaaaaayyyyy!!!!

marsoups 2026-01-14 15:44

just think of it as, “how strong do I want the air conditioning to function” , I guess…

Lequ2211 2026-01-15 11:13

I wish we could turn the fan off when swipe left with three fingers, it actually makes sense to have that

Just-An0ther-Lurker 2026-02-02 19:07

Maybe start thinking you're swiping down towards the fires of Hell?
