UK Owners.. what’s mileage like in this cold weather?

Silent-Priority3630 | 2026-01-05 06:45 | 30 views

Hey I have a decision to make soon if I go with an Atto 3 or some other EV. I’ve seen in another group on Facebook that someone got 128 miles from a 100% charge… how true is this for other people as that’s unreal for a 60kw battery. What’s everyone else getting in this weather and compared to warmer weather? Thanks :)

Mine seems not really different from the warmer weather. That's said BYD dolphin has a heat pump which is meant to maintain optimal battery temperature

BYD Dolphin Design 2025, just did 3000kms through Germany/France and Spain. Temperature below 4ºC until -10ºC: 220-250km with a reserve of 15-17%. Temperature between 4ºC-9ºC; 280-300km with a battery reserve of 15%. Temperature between 10ºC-13ºC: 330-350km, reserve as above. Speeds driven between 120-130km/h with some overtaking peaking around 145km/h.

Byd seal AWD about 230 miles in -1C to 3C weather.

What battery size is that if you don’t mind me asking

82.5kwh

Sealion 7. Still getting 3 miles per Kwh. So around 250 miles

Is that this cold weather usage or is this warmer weather usage?

Right now in the snow and ice and 80 miles on a motorway. Pretty happy with it and the car is a beast

Which trim did you get? I purchased the Sealion 7 excellence AWD in December and also from the UK, and I’m not seeing anything near 3 miles per kWh. I’m lucky if I see 2. I also went out today in the snow/ice and drove 24 miles round trip on city roads. I had 31% when I left and 10% when I returned, so 21% battery used for 24 miles which I think is shocking given the advertised 311 mile range. I’m starting to wonder if there’s something wrong with mine when i read others commenting much better efficiency. The BYD app shows ~43.5 kWh per 100 miles, so I’d be lucky to see 200 miles and I’m driving it very slowly to achieve that. Slow acceleration, often under the limit to try to conserve battery to see what maximum efficiency I can get out of it and it’s below 200 miles at that. I didn’t buy the 530bhp model to drive it like it’s a Nissan Micra, but driving it with acceleration and I’m down to 180 miles, possibly much worse. Today was the worst I have seen yet with the 24 mile round trip using 21% battery. It’s the only thing I’m disappointed about so far with the car. Tempted to go back to BYD and have it checked with reports like yours.

Any EV you consider - ask for real world numbers as you have here. The cold obliterates the range of any EV. I have a Seal Excellence and an MG5. Both are stung once the temps approach 0° The cold, motorway driving, a heavy right foot - so many things make the advertised numbers utter fairyland. Anyone looking at an EV should understand this and go in eyes wide open, certain it can meet their needs.

I currently have a Kona EV which has a 65kw battery but I’m getting numbers so much higher than the BYD Atto3 which I know only has 60kw battery (I think) but I’m basing it on kw per mile. I was looking at switching to a Atto3 but them numbers did put me off which colder temps… I expect some decease but that’s me a lot

I have the comfort model, which is single motor, probably why your efficiency is worse than mine. Not sure what else it could be, I only use the eco drive mode as well, and only have the window fan set at 21\*c once the car is pre warmed. My app shows 34.8 Kwh per 100 miles. Not sure if location makes much of a difference with the regenerative braking, cause i do regularly drive down steep hills where i can use negative KW most of the way while maintaining speed, but I can't see that being a 50 mile swing in efficiency

Not a UK owner nor an ev owner but ive also noticed that the ev range reduces alot when tempreture reduces i have a seal 5 dmi
