Q: BYD Sealion 7 Comfort

PrizeOk2138 | 2026-01-03 19:57 | 34 views

Hi all, I was wondering how the comfort was of the BYD Sealion 7 for any owners. I've read that the suspension is very soft, which makes it feel floaty ( like a boat going over waves ). What is your experience on this?

Everyone who has got in it has said how smooth it is.

It’s comfortable indeed. And quite floaty too for the same reason. I test drove the Sealion 7 and it is a very nice car to drive around calmly. It’s clearly pointed towards comfort, and it tends to float, especially in the corners. I also test drove the 2026 Model Y and ended up going for that one, it was slightly less confortable but much more funto drive, held better in the corners,… and all-in-all a better compromise between comfort and dynamic drive. To each their own of course.

Seat position: [https://www.reddit.com/r/BYD/comments/1mq9re3/seat\_position/](https://www.reddit.com/r/BYD/comments/1mq9re3/seat_position/) and soft suspension was a total no-go for me with Sealion 7, driving it was like driving a bus or a truck (especially if you are a tall person).

I've owned one for a month and found it the smoothest car I've owned. Not sure where in the world you are but I'm in North Kent, UK - there is a section of the M25 through Surrey that is like driving over corrugated iron. The Sealion smooths it out completely, it's insane. Previous comment about seat comfort doesn't affect me, I'm 188cm and totally comfortable

IMPORTANT: My feedback is only for Australian version. In other regions suspension tuning might vary. Speaking of my Australian version: Suspension is wonderful. Much better than many rivals when I tested them. I don't understand people who say it's "floaty", not at all, feels like perfect blend of softness and stiffness (partially due to FSD shocks). Sometimes on highway speed over poor road I'd like a bit softer suspension but for speeds below 80 it's decent. I have "comfort brake" turned ON which makes it feel gentle on full-stop potentially giving illusion of floaty suspension but it's software based brake regulation to simulate a gentle stop. Keeping in mind, SL7 is designed to be a comfortable cruiser and they've done a good job on that. If you want to drive enthusiastically, switch to sport mode, and it does OK, but the chassis is a border-line luxury comfort car. Double wishbone front suspension is rare at this price point, 5-link rear suspension, FSD shocks, long wheel base, quiet interior with double glazing, soft touch material everywhere, double stitching everywhere etc etc etc. In a few cases there was too much noise outside such as a nearby lawn mower operating and closing windows ended up suppressing 95% of the noise which felt wonderful. The point is, this is a cohesive comfort design and they've delivered it well for the price point. If you expect a very sporty drive perhaps other cars keep you happier. p.s. I've been owning German cars for last 20 years and pretty used to sporty suspension, still SL7 doesn't feel floaty to me.

I'm in Australia too, and I completely agree. We've driven 6,500 in country conditions, including rough roads with more potholes repais than original bitumen. It's been great. Not as good as the Porsche, but great for a high car.

I think the dual motor is a little less floaty due to a bit more weight but as people have said its designed as a comfortable luxury cruiser. With UK roads bieng what they are I am grateful for the Sealions set up. If you are looking to go round corners fast and tight then its completely the wrong type of car class.

Saudi here. I have owned the car now for over 6 months, I love driving it. It's one of the smoothest cars I've driven so far. I read about the suspension floaty feeling, but never felt it.

I've had the sealion 7 for 3 months now, driven 2500 km and absolutely love it. The suspension is a bit soft but in almost all cases that is either good or not noticeable. Only when driving fast into corners would I like it a bit stiffer. I live in Iceland.

I've got both the SL6 and SL7 and the 7 definitely handles speedbumps better/ feels a bit firmer. The SL6 bounces a bit I find in that scenario, but otherwise both drive and handle well and under various conditions.

I’m in Portugal, and I bought a Sealion 7 about a month ago. I test-drove the Audi Q3/Q4, BMW iX3, Volvo EX40, and Tesla Model Y, and the Sealion 7 felt the most comfortable overall for me. The suspension is on the softer, comfort-tuned side, but I’ve never found it floaty or boat-like.

Please take your desired model for a test drive, then you can make your own choice. A car is a personal thing really.

Looking forward to mine arriving late March. I think the bad feedback about handling comes from journalist smashing it down a b road and moaning that it doesn’t handle like a 3 series… My priority this time round was comfort and it sounds like it’s great at that. How does it handle on the fast backroads in your experience?

neil_b_82 2026-02-11 20:08

Fast back roads haven't been an issue for me, really. You quickly learn that the car rolls a bit and you adapt to that. It's bloody fast, but it's not a nimble hot hatch
