BYD Sealion 7 Comfort – Winter range only ~280 km (100% to 10%) at 2°C. Normal?

Hi everyone, I’ve had my BYD Sealion 7 Comfort for about a month and I’m surprised by the winter range. It’s around 2°C outside and I only got about 280 km driving from 100% down to 10% battery (on motorway). Is this normal for this model in winter conditions? What range are you getting in similar temperatures? Any tips to improve efficiency in cold weather (preconditioning, driving modes, tire pressure)? Should I ask the dealer to check something or is this expected? Driving style is normal heating used but not excessively. Thanks in advance for your feedback!

I drive the Seal AWD and I get only 220 km on german Autobahn, steady velocity at 130-140 km/h at the moment. On regular drives something around 300-340 km. Winter is of course somehow unfortunate for EVs. Higher air density (almost 10% higher, which is huge for high velocity) and then the heat for ventilation. Then again, winter tyres do generate other drag and charging speed is also reduced. Yea, it’s frustrating but it’s only a small period of time. The Scandinavian area is highly electrified in their Mobilisation and they have to deal with it much longer.

Hi, I’m guessing that my range is about the same. My consumption is 27-32 on the motorway. My trips are only 50km at a time on the highway, so I don’t know the exact range. I’m from Belgium and have the same model.

I have a sealion 7 in Australia and get around 500km range. Not cold here though

Depends on the speeds. Air resistance quadruples with the duplication of speed. At low temps the car needs to run the heat pump extra hard to heat up the battery and the cabin. It is not unusual that the HVAC uses up to 6KW. The easiest way to gain range is to drive 20 - 30 kmh slower than you would in an ICE.

About 110km/h on the motorway.

Lucky you 😀

In Europe we have highways where we can drive 140 km/h ;) The smaller it is ... is not a reason to be proud! ;) https://preview.redd.it/8dwa1483wjag1.png?width=946&format=png&auto=webp&s=b69053eb36f514448654da96068640b829bd6c0a

The result is totally normal, the weather is the reason. With 8 degrees temperature and more i have 15% - 30% more range by the same highway trip. With -2 degrees you gonna have like 240-250km range. P.S. Don't use ECO, it's useless, saves like 1% battery per 100km distance but reduces the car power by 30% (compared to Normal mode) causing a huge throttle lag: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZR3L378MCA&t=727s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZR3L378MCA&t=727s) Tip = remember the range in cold conditions and be aware of charging on the road, don't reduce speed! \- as 110 km/h is quite low speed (i drive 140 km/h on a highway).

Definitely normal for this size of car which is not known for efficiency. My KonaEV also gets around 300km in winter at higher speeds. It is a comhination of increased air resistance, cabin heating, winter tyres etc.

Cold + almost no regen over 80 km/h speed Very normal 👍

That's quite impressive efficiency for the Sealion 7. How did you achieve that?
