Aftermarket tyre valve caps - beware

Like many of you, I bought a few small items aftermarket to make my car my own. One of those items were tyre valve caps with BYD written on top. After less than 6 months, I tried to remove them to add some air to the tyres, only they didn't budge. I had to use a pliers to remove them, and a second pliers to stop the whole valve from being pulled out. The caps are aluminum, the valves are brass, so the first sign of moisture and they react with one another and get stuck. Unsure if greasing them beforehand would help. I bought mine on Temu, but to be honest, they're all coming from the same manufacturer.

Aluminum tire valve comes with corrosion risk. Better to use snap in rubber tire valve - it's cheaper as well and easy to replace. Don't see much benefit other than aesthetic for aluminum one.

Exactly. Lesson learned on my part!

Thank you!

Yes, learned this lesson also through my brother with his aluminium valve caps. We were able to remove 3 of them, the last one was so stuck, that the whole valve twisted off and he had to replace it. Since then: only rubber/plastic valve caps for me.

If you want metal, use grease.

Really don’t recommend cheap places for this sort of stuff. I understand the attraction but I’ve seen it happen with people’s cars before and getting them off hasn’t always been easy due to the caps seizing on.

Had mine on there for a year and I haven't had this happen. They still look new, pumped the tyres up 3 days ago no worries and it gets washed fortnightly. Got mine off AliExpress
