If preordering is free, How many will preorder? Millions, just like the Cybertruck. If it's $100, maybe a dozen or so 4channers who got lucky with Bitcoin. How many will actually buy? You will be able to comfortably fit them in a booth at Wendy's.

Where is ZERO on the poll?

boltyboy69 2026-01-29 19:24

69,420 of course

Individual-Mud262 2026-01-29 19:25

How many people preordered the Roadster? Fools and their money are easily parted.

herewego199209 2026-01-29 19:41

Whatever the preorders were for the cyber truck that's what it would be for the Optimus. It's a product that the every day user has zero utility for.

ddesideria89 2026-01-29 19:41

the question is not how many would actually sign up but how many will tesla report.

TryIsntGoodEnough 2026-01-29 20:02

There is 0 chance any preorder will be refundable...

TryIsntGoodEnough 2026-01-29 20:03

100 refundable would probably be more than a dozen or so, but also there is a 0% chance musk will ever offer a refundable preorder

SpecialistFagazine 2026-01-29 20:11

Manufacturers want machines with as few failure points as possible. They don't want downtime every couple of hours to swap batteries, they want them bolted to the floor, surrounded by guards and running non-stop for months at a time. We still prefer pneumatics over electronic actuators because it's so damn reliable.

Beezelbubba 2026-01-29 20:17

Thats going to be the pump by Q3

spam__likely 2026-01-29 20:27

lol

Wait, I can pre-order my robotic Nazi spy for my house? Oh my, what a deal. Please, please tell me it will still be able to stream everything back to the Reichsta...er, Tesla HQ.

th3bigfatj 2026-01-29 21:15

they had over 2 million cybertruck preorders and i know there aren't that many pathetic musk fans in the world

5xchamp 2026-01-29 23:24

less than 500K can be zero

bobi2393 2026-01-30 01:14

If the Optimus price were $100, I'd probably buy a bunch for the parts value alone. (Depends on capacity and reusability of components like batteries and memory). But if it were just a down payment to reserve an estimated $40k robot that shipped four years later for $100k, like base Cybertrucks, then helllll naw. But for other people, if he told big enough lies about it, I think he'd get more than 2 million pre-orders. Cybertruck pre-orders peaked at around 2 million, and with the right lies, I'm sure a lot of believers would want several Optimuses.

I can't vote on this. I would hope by now, after the CT and Cybertaxi debacles, that Tesla-ites have learned a thing or two. But like I say, that's HOPE. It wouldn't surprise me if there were 5M\* regerstartions, with perhaps 5,000 actually completing their order, But then I also wouldn't be surprised if there were 10 reservations. Who knows with Tesla folk 🤷🏼‍♂️ \* a nonsense figure that may be closer to the truth than we'd like to believe

paulstanners 2026-01-30 10:09

At least the Roadster is a cool car (probably... we will never know). A barely-functional, janky POS humanoid serves no use case at all.

cjmpeng 2026-01-30 14:22

For a refundable $100 I think that enough people out there with available cash would do it just to fuck with the Muskrat.

KimJongIlLover 2026-01-30 19:38

We have seen more of Optimus than the roadster. And we have never seen a real Optimus lol.

WMTRobots 2026-01-30 22:15

Real or bots?

generally_unsuitable 2026-01-31 00:29

But, have you considered buying this unproven solution, from a company that refuses to let you service your own equipment or directly purchase parts, who also routinely change their terms of service, and are constantly removing features you paid for?

DeliciousAges 2026-01-31 02:38

Never underestimate the gullible fanboys Tesla (still) has. Nerds would probably love their fantasy sexbot.

SpecialistFagazine 2026-01-31 03:10

Not much longer and we will have to like dear leaders posts or have our internet privilege revoked.

rocketonmybarge 2026-01-31 03:50

Base model Cybertruck real.

cheemio 2026-01-31 13:10

Yeah, it’s one of those things where if you actually needed a truck for work, there were already dozens of options, even a few electric ones out there. So you know someone with a cybertruck 99% chance they don’t actually need it lol

Fastpas123 2026-02-01 17:28

I'll be honest, probably a lot. A lot of people still see Tesla as a credible company, and I know of at least a few people who think the robot will be world changing. Certainly more people who like the robot than who liked the cyber truck, and that got a bajillion preorders. Actual sales? Probably not many. I think a good amount of the people pre-ordering are just hoping to resell and make a quick buck

rocketonmybarge 2026-02-01 21:03

Just like the people who pre-ordered 10 CT's trying to flip them.

Equivalent_Plan_5653 2026-02-02 07:54

What is this robot for ?

rocketonmybarge 2026-02-02 13:39

For the purpose of hyping the stock silly billy.

LowKee24 2026-02-09 03:12

I could use it my auto repair shop. Basic things like cleaning the shop, racking up cars, answering phones, organizing tool boxes, bringing tools when we can't move, flashlight holder, run diagnostics on the cars, clean cars. I see a ton of uses for it for my industry. Instead of hiring a 75k greenhorn tech.
