Did Elon Lie ~~About Unsupervised Robotaxis Starting in Austin~~?

AggravatedMango 2026-01-26 16:10

He could tell me it's sunny outside and I'd still go double check. So yea, he probably lied about this as well.

farrrtttttrrrrrrrrtr 2026-01-26 16:10

No lol

Delicious-Novel9447 2026-01-26 16:12

It doesn't work. So stop trying to sell it.

okokokoyeahright 2026-01-26 16:14

IMO OP, you should dropped the 'Did' from the title. It is a bit grammatically awkward, but much more truthful. And it applies to everything Leon has said in the past 20 years at least.

MarchMurky8649 2026-01-26 16:18

Rule 5: **ALL LINKS MUST INCLUDE THE ORIGINAL TITLE OF THE CONTENT** \- even crossposts within Reddit must not change the original title. Titles that are (for some reason) in all CAPS can be de-capitalized to avoid eye trauma. I have no choice but to copy-and-paste the title from the video.

Valid_Reason1178 2026-01-26 16:19

Q: Did Elon lie about ...? A: Of course, yes.

Vidi_89 2026-01-26 16:21

King of lies

maccapackets 2026-01-26 16:23

Were his lips moving?

Clint88888 2026-01-26 16:25

I’m not sure. Also, is the Pope Catholic?

Specman9 2026-01-26 16:25

Their Headline Engineering is just hugely intentionally misleading. I believe what they wrote was that they "removed the human safety monitor from inside the Robotaxi" without saying by putting him in a chase car. They intentionally mislead so much that no rational person should trust anything they say.

RoutineCloud5993 2026-01-26 16:27

The answer is always yes

analyticaljoe 2026-01-26 16:29

Were his lips moving?

Texas_Sam2002 2026-01-26 16:35

If Elon was saying something, you can bet he was lying.

BigHappy4112 2026-01-26 16:43

Everyone is taking the example of the fake president fake news and fake everything

Zealousideal_Draw924 2026-01-26 16:44

Hahahahahahahahahaaaashhhhaaaaaaaaa. What do you think?

Noooberino 2026-01-26 16:44

Why is this even a question at this point? Of course he’s lying.

quantgorithm 2026-01-26 16:54

He has a contract that pays out in a decade. How is this that one last pump?

okokokoyeahright 2026-01-26 16:57

I see the yelling REALTESLA RULES are written that way too. All caps. thank you for your reply.

DreadpirateBG 2026-01-26 16:58

He opened his mouth of course there is a lie.

Common-Violinist-305 2026-01-26 17:04

what do you think?

Common-Violinist-305 2026-01-26 17:04

like i say. build the bubble and keep it from pop.

Ok-Albatross899 2026-01-26 17:06

Like everything else it’s constant lies

Lacrewpandora 2026-01-26 17:10

Seriously, when is the last time he said something that was *true*?

hillybeat 2026-01-26 17:14

Wait! This guy lies?!?! Of course he did, he lies about everything.

DameLasNalgas 2026-01-26 17:17

Does Elon ever tell the truth,?

DonkeyImpossible316 2026-01-26 17:18

Let me know when he tells a truth.

superflybaby 2026-01-26 17:20

My takeaway is that they did it for one day(controlled, with a chase car and a cherry-picked influencer as the passenger), so when they have their Earnings call tomorrow, they can technically claim they have started “unsupervised” service, instead of lying. This is still not being fully transparent, but his hardcore followers will eat it up. There’s another influencer who drove cost-to-cost, who’s been in Taxes trying to find a robotaxi without a supervisor since they announced the limited-run “unsupervised” rides, but he’s yet to find one, and I think he’s done over 40 rides last I checked.

torokunai 2026-01-26 17:21

he's got a tightrope to walk this year before he can get xAI etc. folded into TSLA's bags. Another $400 -> $200 dump like last year would complicate things I bet.

torokunai 2026-01-26 17:22

similar to Ashok's 4Q EC statement that the Austin cars had "no supervisors in the drivers seat" (they were in the front passenger seat).

brintoul 2026-01-26 17:26

Were his lips moving?

brintoul 2026-01-26 17:27

I always think it’s the last pump. I’ve been thinking that since like 2017.

quantgorithm 2026-01-26 17:30

and this tightrope is based on? Folding xAI into TSLA would help it not hurt it.

quantgorithm 2026-01-26 17:31

Looks like your track record and timing is about as bad as his then! 🤣😂 Is this the one?

your_fathers_beard 2026-01-26 17:34

"Did Elon lie about..." Yes, almost certainly.

marcusmosh 2026-01-26 17:39

It’s Elon. So, yes.

RoutineCloud5993 2026-01-26 17:40

Hard to tell after the latest batch of surgery

Dry_Tangerine_8328 2026-01-26 17:56

Yes

DistributedView 2026-01-26 17:58

This is just like the battery swap station. Technically "true" but completely dishonest.

razor_train 2026-01-26 18:00

Hey now, sometimes his lips might be moving purely due to drug withdrawal.

zvordak 2026-01-26 18:14

Yes

LightMission4937 2026-01-26 18:20

Did Elon lie.....😂 YES, literally almost every time he opens his mouth.

SFWarriorsfan 2026-01-26 18:22

If this question exists, he lied.

Albin4president2028 2026-01-26 18:27

I thought they wanted to get rid of gender affirming care 🤔

gumnamaadmi 2026-01-26 18:28

Lies about everything. Nothing new.

WhitepaprCloudInvite 2026-01-26 18:31

It will not matter. In the end fsd and autonomous robotaxies will be a thing. You cannot stop it and in under 5 years it's likely you will regularly use the service. It has little to do with long term bullish stock holdings

torokunai 2026-01-26 18:33

string along retail support (i.e. call buyers) with BS promises until he can roll everything into TSLA, which would make it easier to make the stock award tranches that require net income etc.

Engunnear 2026-01-26 18:39

Now hold on… He can also lie using his thumbs.

Flimsy-Run-5589 2026-01-26 18:44

If the service isn't noticeably expanded in the next few days, we'll know for sure that this is another fake, just like the first “autonomous” vehicle that was delivered and then never heard of again. Tesla's approach in Austin is ridiculously contradictory. For years, they have claimed that their big advantage is the vast amount of data and vehicles on the road that are constantly being tested, but every time it actually matters, they reduce it to a minimum because the risk is too high for them. After months in Austin, their fleet is still tiny, their service still very limited. Normally, you would expect them to have hundreds of cars on the road by now, operating 24/7 for verification and validation. Especially since they have no shortage of vehicles, all Teslas are FSD ready, right? But they don't, because they still can't.

RoutineCloud5993 2026-01-26 18:47

No, no. Just gender affirming care for poor people

Albin4president2028 2026-01-26 18:51

Ahhhh my mistake. Everyone knows billionaires are a more advanced species then us poor folks.

cgieda 2026-01-26 19:02

I think he confuses his normal audience of MAGA folks and diehard fanboys who will believe anything he says and the rest of the world who will check his comments for veracity.

Queasy-Protection-50 2026-01-26 19:14

Probably, he certainly seems to lie about everything else

pB4uGo2Bedd 2026-01-26 19:40

This guy is so full full of shit, its coming out of his eyes.

fluxxis 2026-01-26 19:40

Elon never lies, he just sometimes confuses years or decades.

Mansos91 2026-01-26 20:32

Considering xai is behind as an ai company and the bubble is about to burst... No it won't

zitrored 2026-01-26 20:57

Does xAI actually make any money? From what I heard the private valuations are way overpriced and their numbers look bad. Only thing that could help would be SpaceX, and that is highly unlikely to ever happen. Once they go public no one is going to support a merger.

torokunai 2026-01-26 21:00

he needs to stuff as much shit as he can into the TSLA sleeve to make those operational milestones to unlock the 12 tranches

Winston74 2026-01-26 21:14

He’s a Nazi, so yes

Numerous-Match-1713 2026-01-26 21:27

Is Vatican home of the Pope?

zedk47 2026-01-26 21:40

"Did Elon Lie" doesn't need details to be answered "Yes"

TryIsntGoodEnough 2026-01-26 23:05

Even without the chase cars there are teleoperators that have always been there... The entire purpose of the "Safety monitor" was to be able to fix and/or reset the vehicle when the teleoperator couldn't connect or remotely fix an issue.

TryIsntGoodEnough 2026-01-26 23:06

Or that the teleoperators, who were always in control of the vehicle (unless they couldnt remotely fix it or connect and then the safety monitor had to take over) are still supervising the vehicles. The safety monitors were only the "2nd" line of supervision.

Relative_Drop3216 2026-01-27 00:34

Omg elon lied he never lies. My hw3 drives itself even without my awareness

readit145 2026-01-27 01:37

That’s literally Tesla entire business model. Completely ignore the bad parts and over exaggerate the good parts aka word play. E.g. the cyber truck bullet proof rumors started when they showed employees the shot up cyber truck before releasing it but didn’t write any info about it not being bullet proof. So they let the employees make up and spread the rumor.

KnucklesMcGee 2026-01-27 02:19

"Did Elon lie..." Yes. The answer is always yes.

Hetroskedastic 2026-01-27 07:42

\~\~Did\~\~ Elon Lies

I_did_theMath 2026-01-27 09:30

He owns a larger percentage of xAI than Tesla, so having Tesla buy xAI at an inflated valuation is just another way to steal from Tesla shareholders. What he did with SolarCity but at a larger scale.

MarchMurky8649 2026-01-27 10:36

Autonomous robotaxies already are a thing. None of them are Teslas though. Tesla's approach seems all wrong, their leadership is erratic, the best staff leave for their competitors and new recruits would rather work elsewhere. Whatever I am using in five years it's about as likely to be from Tesla as my phone will be a BlackBerry.

EarthConservation 2026-01-27 16:32

I've mentioned it a few times in this sub, but my expectations are that Musk will be working behind the scenes to cause the stock price to topple this year. Sure, there could be one last pump before that happens, or what I'll be looking for is a major stock correction in the short term, a relief rally over the next 2-2.5 months, before the stock begins to topple going into and throughout the summer. Stocks rarely if ever go straight down... it's possible... but not likely. My reasoning for Musk intentionally toppling the stock is pretty simple... First and foremost, we have to understand who Musk is. He's a guy who thinks the world is a video game, and he's willing to use any means necessary to win ... much like he was willing to use any cheating necessary to be one of the top players in PoE 2. (It was almost exactly one year ago when he got cheating in that game and unapologetically admitted to it, reasoning that all top players are cheaters, so he had to cheat to compete with them. Yep.) This really comes down to Musk wanting to be the first trillionaire, and likely well beyond that. Maybe at one point he wanted to be admired and worshipped as a genius savior, but now that he realizes the world hates him, I imagine he's more interested in trolling the world, by showing how great he is by accumulating an ever growing mountain of wealth. This is where Tesla and xAI comes in. For Tesla, he's shown he wants a larger share of the company to gain more control. He wants at least a 25% stake in the company, but if I'm right, he'll end up with at least 30%. To accomplish this, he wants Tesla to buy xAI in an all shares sales. Musk owns over 50% of xAI (I think it's closer to 58%), and his family, billionaire friends, and even the politicians he wants to impress/buy their influence likely own a good chunk as well. xAI is obviously massively overvalued at around $400+ billion, as is Tesla currently. Tesla stock, as a publicly traded company, is massively manipulated on account of such a high percentage of shares being tied up by permanent holders. Musk uses that along with simple market index dynamics (S&P 500 index weighting) to manipulate the share price up and down as needed. The main mechanism Musk can use to both boost his wealth by hundreds of billions of dollars and gain a significantly higher share of Tesla is by convincing Tesla shareholders to buy xAI in an all shares sale **at the right time**. The vote to buy xAI in the previous shareholder meeting failed on account of abstentions being counted as 'no' votes, but the majority of actual voters did vote 'yes', so clearly it would only take a bit more effort to convince the shareholders to purchase xAI. In my opinion, Musk knew this vote would fail, and in fact, needed it to fail given that the timing was wrong. As a bit of extra confirmation of this, neither Tesla executives nor Musk have really even spoken about it since the vote failed; as if it's no big deal.... this purchase of a $400 billion company... that Musk claims is imperative to Tesla's success. Before Tesla buys xAI, I think Musk plans to tank Tesla's stock value before bringing the xAI purchase up for another vote, where he'll be assured the vote will go through. By tanking Tesla's stock value, and while xAI's share price is high, the purchase of xAI in an all shares sale will require significantly more Tesla shares be issued to xAI shareholders. That'll net Musk and his friends/family a far larger amount of Tesla shares and a far larger overall stake in Tesla. It'll essentially give him and his inner squad complete power over the company. The 'yes' voters will be ceding their control of the company to Musk, Maybe they vote 'yes' because they're a cult that deifies Musk, or maybe when this vote happens, it'll be after Tesla's stock tanking and they'll be convinced they absolutely must buy xAI to save the company's valuation and their portfolios. Once Musk and his squad gain their shares through the xAI purchase, Musk will once again begin working overtime to reinflate the stock price... no doubt by touting world disrupting AI tech and job killing automation... except this time he'll own a significantly larger amount of Tesla shares. For example, if Tesla stock drops 50% in 2026, as it did in early 2025, and then Tesla buys xAI at its current massive overvaluation of around $400 billion, then Musk himself will get over $200 billion worth of Tesla shares. If Tesla stock is pumped back up to where it is today (a 100% gain from my expected correction level) or higher, then Musk's net worth will be $200+ billion higher as a result of this transaction once all is said and done. This move alone could get him to right around a $1 trillion net worth. Tesla stock holders at the time of this sale will see their shares massively diluted, as you mentioned. I expect Tesla stock to dive by the end of the year, and I expect the xAI purchase to go through then. The time it takes for Musk to re-inflate Tesla stock doesn't really matter, just so long as it eventually reinflates. It could take 6 months, or it could take 3 years. Hard to say. In the end though, Musk becomes a trillionaire.

EarthConservation 2026-01-27 16:44

The irony of all of this is that generally when a company tries to buy another company, they generally tend to try and buy that other company for the lowest price possible. However, with Musk and his gang owning the majority of xAI, the opposite is true. Musk wants Tesla to pay the absolute maximum amount he can get away with for xAI, and worse. He wants Tesla stock to tank prior to that purchase happening so it requires significantly more shares to buy xAI in an all shares sale.
